Mary Vlad
1919-2011

Approaching her 92nd year, Mary’s passing on Sunday, August 14 in the presence of family was unexpected since everyone that knew her thought she would live forever. Husband John to whom she had been married for 68 years lived to 100, and to her friends and family she was a constant. Mary and John had only two mailboxes in Canada in 63 years, 39 of them at the same address in Ottawa, the balance at the farm in Iroquois. She was proud that her only son Mitch established a family with artist Deborah, she was delighted that grandsons Sean and Elliot chose beautiful wives (Helen and Tamara) to create precious great-grandchildren (Alexis, Victoria, Devin, Avery, Cameron), and that grandson Alexander became such a constant companion. Her loving niece Mariana’s unceasing loving attention greatly enhanced the quality of her life, as did Reg Moriarty and Calvin. The long journey from Transylvania to England to Canada has come to an end. Mary leaves behind good memories for everyone along the way, and regrets especially from family here and in Romania. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Wednesday from 2 – 4pm and 7 – 9pm and Thursday from 12noon until time of service in the Chapel at 1pm. The interment will be held at Pinecrest cemetery followed by a reception.
