In hospital on Thursday, December 5, 2002 Charles Julien in his 79th year. Beloved husband of the late Lucille Bertrand. Father of Marc, Michel and the late Richard. Dear brother of Paul, Annette and Theresa. Predeceased by brother Noel and sister Lucille. Memorial Service will be held at Notre Dame des Lourdes, Vanier, 435 Montreal Road, on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Notre Dame cemetery.

Doug (Moris Douglas) Lahaise - 12/09/2002

Peacefully at the Ottawa General following a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at the age of 48. Beloved husband of Danielle and father of Matthew and Randy of Richmond, Ontario. Cherished son of Grace LaHaise (the late Moris LaHaise). Brother of Debbie (Ken), Rick, Geoff(Sharon) and Donna. Son-in-law of Daniel G. Robertson (the late Myrtle Robertson) of Hull, Quebec. Friends and family may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Thursday, December 12 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, December 13, 2002 at 11 a.m. I lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be truly appreciated. Lois “Edna” Lethbridge (nee Mockett) - 12/08/2002

Longtime employee of CBC Peacefully in her sleep at the Ottawa General Hospital on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at the age of 82. Predeceased by her sisters Bessie Damm and Hazel Scharf. Beloved mother of Rodney (Nadine), Donald (Bev) and Robert (Sharron). Loving grandmother of Tom Roy (Amy), Leah Gillis (Mike), Jim Lethbridge (Leah), Kelly Bennett (Justin), Natascha Lethbridge (Ben)and Anthony Williams. Great-grandmother of April, Sarah, Travis, Tara, Kurtis, Suzi, Joshua and Kayla. Edna will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Tuesday, December 10th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, December 11th from 2 until 3:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church, 2345 Alta Vista Drive on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Thanks to the many doctors, nurses and staff at the Ottawa Hospital for their care and kindness. In memoriam donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.

Dearly loved brother of Abraham (the late Sadie) Lieff, Bessie (the late Milton Narod), Joseph (Evelyn) Lieff and brother-in-law of Shirley (Almer Barron) and Jean Lieff. Predeceased by his brothers, Louis, Hyman (the late Pearl) and Morris (the late Pearl) Lieff. Loving uncle of Elissa (David), Norman (Francie), Susan (Joel), Alan (Ann), Josh (Tammy) and their children and fondly remembered by many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Funeral Service will be held at the Jewish Community cemetery , Bank Street, Ottawa. Shiva to be observed at 2027-200 Clearview Avenue. Survived by several nieces and nephews. On Saturday, November 30, 2002 at age 91, surrounded by her children, Claire ApSimon, Eric, Denise and Sylvia (Dr. Holger Baumgartner) who arrived from Austria just in time to spend the last hour with her mother. Loving wife of the late Walter John Manning, P.Eng. Grandmother to Joanne (Bob Megens), Paul (Dina Vitale) and Michele ApSimon (Don King), to Erin, Yves and Pascale Manning, to Toki David, Bisi Susanna (Jason Cooke), Toyin Rachel (Fred Grannum) and Seun Patrick Ogunnaike and to Peter-Patrick and Suzi Baumgartner. Very proud great-grandmother to Matisse, Maya and Bianca ApSimon Megens, to Justin and Nicholas ApSimon King, to Juwon Ogunnaike and Jada Grannum and to Ryker and Mika Ogunnaike Cooke. Sister of Paul Montreuil, Quebec. Predeceased by sisters Marcelle Cartier Cerny, Yvette Denis and brother Dr. Fernand Montreuil. A memorial service will be held at the First Unitarian Congregation, 30 Cleary Avenue, on Friday, December 6th at 11:00 p.m. The family thanks Dr. Graham and all the staff at the Villa Marguerite for their compassionate care of our mother. Virginia Francis McDonald - 12/11/2002

passed away peacefully at The Glebe Centre in Ottawa on December 7, 2002 at the age of 93 years. Virginia is survived by her children David McDonald of Ottawa and Mary (Jeffrey) Chandor of Oldwick, New Jersey, as well as her grandchildren Heather Jean Chandor and Jeffrey McDonald Chandor. She was also the beloved aunt of Joanne Pelletier-Mattingly of London, Ontario. Virginia is also survived by her brother Donald H. Pelletier of Toronto and her very special friend Gail Pickwick of Ottawa. She is predeceased by her husband David S.D. McDonald. Virginia was a graduate of the Toronto General School of Nursing, Class of 1931. A Memorial Service will be held at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry 315 McLeod Street on Thursday, December 12th at 10 o'clock a.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Glebe Centre Building Fund.

Predeceased by 3 sisters Ida, Eileen and Velma. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Patrick's Basilica, 220 Kent St., on Tuesday, December 10 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall. Beloved husband and best friend of Maryann. Cherished dad to Samantha (Terrence) and Andrew. Dear grandpa to Edward and Santana. Nephew of Joyce and John Johnson, Kelowna, B.C. Uncle to Anthony Mayer, and brother-in-law to Mary Mayer, Whitby, Ontario. Uncle to Suzanne and Bruce MacKeen and family, Ottawa, Ontario. Uncle to Shari, Sara and Paul Gagne, Montreal, Quebec. Devoted friend to many in the aviation community in Canada, USA and UK. Cremation. A special memorial service to be held at the Canada Aviation Museum, Aviation Parkway on Monday, December 9, 2002 at 7:30 p.m. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Hospice at May Court, 114 Cameron Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, K1S 0X1, would be greatly appreciated. Winston Earl Smillie - 11/30/2002

RCAF Veteran WWII On Saturday, November 30, 2002 age 81 years. Son of the late Norman Earl Smillie and Jean Evelyn Mason of Brownsburg, Quebec. Dearly beloved husband of Marion Isabel Birch. Much loved brother of Wynetha Evelyn Willoughby of KirkElla, Yorkshire, England. Heldin deep affection by his extended family of nieces and nephews. Winston gave valuable service in many capacities as a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Saskatoon and Ottawa. He was a Rotarian and engaged in several activities such as Chairman of the Saskatchewan Easter Seals Campaign. He was an avid skeet and trap shooter and a winner of several medalsduring his career with Canadian Industries Limited. He held sales posotions in Western Canada and latterly served in Eastern Canada in finance and as a curator of the corporate travelling collection of contemporary Canadian paintings. Friends may visit at St. Matthias Anglican Church, 555 Parkdale Avenue (at the Queensway), Ottawa after 9:30am Wednesday, December 4, 2002 until service time in the church at 10:30am. Reverend Joan Riding presiding. Interment Brownsburg cemetery , Lachute, Quebec. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation or the charity of one's choice would be appreciated. Lee (Lillian Louise) nee Vincent Smith - 12/01/2002

Previously Lee Humble Died peacefully on November 29, 2002 at the Ottawa General Hospital, after a 5 year battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Lee was born on November 16, 1947 in Fredericton. She was a long term employee of the TD Bank, but anyone who knew Lee would know that her passions were her daughters, her granddaughters, her counselling with La Leche League, and the children that attended her daycare many years ago. Once she was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer, she discovered the IBC Support Group on the Internet and became a counsellor, a pillar of strength and an inspirational source of hope and comfort for many women with this disease, and their families worldwide. Despite disabling treatment side-effects, Lee led, and won, a fight for the Canadian approval of the drug Herceptin, enabling a longer and better life for others with cancer. Lee was a founding member of the IBC Research Foundation, and was the Canadian Tissue Donation Co-ordinator. Even in death, she donated her corneas to give others sight, and continues to make a difference. Lee will be missed by her loving husband Charles Smith, parents Gertrude and J. Michael Vincent, brothers David Vincent (Judy) and John Vincent (Louise), daughters Katie Toksoy (Guy) and Sylvia Priboj (Jergus), and cherished granddaughters Seline and Erin Toksoy. The family would like to thank Dr. Stan Gertler, Dr. John Seely, nurse extraordinaire Ginni Jarvis and the nurses who cared for Lee. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road, on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 from 2 p.m. until service time in the Chapel at 4 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre, (613) 247-3527, would be appreciated by the family.
