Ivan Radvan Vrana - 01/30/2003

Born June 4, 1930 in Moravska Nova Ves, Czech Republic. passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness January 29, 2003 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He is mourned by his wife Toni (M.A.) Vrana nee Ross, his children Anna M. Vrana-Godwin, Ivan Ross Vrana and grandchildren Anicka and Ross, as well as his brother Milan Vrana of King City, Ontario. As a tribute to Ivan the family requests donations to the Oncology Fund, c/o the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, 737 Parkdale Avenue, 1st floor, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, K1Y 1J8 in lieu of flowers. We are truly grateful to the Special Oncology Team of 5 East at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus for their outstanding care and compassion. Elinor Grace Welsh (nee Mowry)
July 26, 1916 - February 4, 2003.

Grace died peacefully at the General Hospital. She is survived by her husband William Welsh, her brother the Reverend Father Richard Mowry, T.S.F., her children Norman (Carole), Gilbert (Patricia), Bill (Beverly), Gordon, Miriam (Carl) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her infant daughter Gwendolyn and grandson Jeffery. Miles (Mike) Wisenthal - 02/01/2003

In Ottawa, on February 1st, 2003, in his 90th year, peacefully, after a long and full life. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 67 years, Dorothy (nee Rosenbloom); his two sons and their wives, Jonathan (Christine) and David (Brenda); his four grandchildren Stephen (Jenny), Rosalind (Matt) Lucas and Joshua, and his four great grandchildren, Theo, Archie, Amanda and Duncan. He is survived by his sister Rose Wisenthal Weiner and predeceased by his brother Hyman and his sister Florence. He is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, friends and colleagues. He was highly respected in the many segments of his career: as a businessman, as a soldier, as an academic, as a civil servant, and as a consultant to the federal government. Peacefully in hospital on Sunday, April 13, 2003, in his 80th year, after a courageous battle with cancer. Son of the late John W. and Emma (Ames) Baldock. He is survived by two sons, Robert (Helen) and Gordon (Diane), both of Ottawa. Also survived by two sisters, Wanda (Jim) Osborne of Vancouver and Maxine (Lloyd) Boivin of Lac Brome, Quebec, as well as many nieces and nephews. Don will be sadly missed by his dear friends, Jim and Bernice McFarland and Gord Dixon. In 1941, he graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor degree in Science and Civil Engineering. He was President and Owner of Baldock Engineering & Construction Limited for many years. Don was Past President and a life member of the Ottawa Construction Association and Past President of Construction Safety Association of Ontario. He was a member of Dalhousie Lodge A.F. & A.M. No.52 G.R.C. in Ottawa, Ontario and 48 years at Pembroke Lodge A.F. & A.M. No.128 G.R.C. (Ottawa District 2). Special thanks to the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Dr. Cohen and his team for the outstanding care. Peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyere Pavilion on Thursday, April 17, 2003 in her 62nd year. Predeceased by her loving husband Marvin David, her daughter Corrie and her son Donald. Dearly missed by her brothers and sisters, Peter(Eileen), Jim(Valerie), the late David Clow and Jane(Thomas Flemming). Fondly remembered by her sons David (Lynda) and Michael(Kelsey). Kenneth joins Ruth, his loving wife of over 50 years, who predeceased him in 1995. Ken peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 aged 90 years. He leaves a sister Dorothy Ryerson. His brother Don predeceased him in 2001. Survived by his son Wayne, daughter Sandra (Randy) and Linda (Gerry). As well, he leaves wonderful grandchildren who will miss his quick wit, wonderful stories and "snappy" blue eyes - Tammy (Shannon), Trevor (Diana), Steven, TracyLyn and Jenny. The family wish to thank the staff at Steff-Kim Lodge as well as Bill and Norma Kerr for the love and support they have shown the family. Peter John Edward Glynn - 04/13/2003

Peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus on Friday, April 11, 2003 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of the late Ninan (nee Knudsen). Dear father of John (Anneke) and Peter (Marilyn and daughter Isis). Dear brother of Ursula Angus (John) of London, England and the late Hubert Glynn (Agnes) of Vancouver. Also survived by his nieces and nephews. Cousin of Klaus Gottstein, Ulli Gottstein and Annelise Federschmidt. He and his family left Germany in the 1930's, and settled in Norway. During the German invasion of 1940, he led his mother, brother and sister in a courageous month-long escape through the mountains of Norway culminating in their evacuation on the last British naval vessel to leave southern Norway. As a result of the support they received from Norwegians, he had a lifelong respect and affection for the Norwegian people. He and his brother joined the British Army, in which they served for the duration of the war. He married Ninan in 1946, and his fifty year marriage to her was one of deep love and affection. They moved to Canada in 1952, where he made significant contributions to the study of curl during his subsequent career in paper research. He was an avid cross-country skier, and took a great interest in the Arctic, travel and nature. At the age of 83, he fulfilled his life-long ambition of visiting the Everest basecamp and Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 315 McLeod Street, on Monday April 14, 2003 from 7-9 p.m.. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday April 15th, 2003 at 2 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions to the Nature Conservancy Canada, or to the Ottawa Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.

Haswell Fletcher (Kip) Kippen - 04/15/2003

Peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, 2 weeks shy of his 89th birthday. Beloved husband of the late Elleen Mahon and brother of the late Jean Robillard (Rock). Son of the late Angus and Sarah Kippin. Uncle Kip is survived by several relatives in Elleen's family, including his sister-in-law Mildred Mahon. He was much loved, appreciated and respected by his 3 nieces, Wendy McKinnon (Al), Patty Jeffrey (David) Nancy Du Vall (Joe) and their children/ Any, Casey, Katie, Maggie, Brendan and Rebecca. Kip will be missed by fellow members of the Ottawa Hunt Club and the former Laurentian Club. He was proudly able to live independently until several days ago. Subsequently, he received the best of care by compassionate staff and nurses, at both the Empress in Kanata and the Queensway Carleton Hospital. A close friend and avid fellow skier, Fr. Tom Kelly once wrote to Kip and included in his letter a poem entitled 'Mountain Top Men's Vision'. Like the Alpine Guide and avid skier, great men would have as their epitaph 'He died climbing'. This would certainly hold true of Uncle Kip during his final days. Friends may attend a Memorial Service at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Thursday, April 24, 2003 at 7 p.m., followed by a reception in the McGarry Family Reception Centre. Bill is survived by his wife Margaret Ann Marsh, his son John David Marsh, and his sister Mary Elizabeth Tarbet. He will be missed by his friends and fellow members of the Royal Canadian Air Force, especially the Sabre Pilots Association and Alumni of Royal Roads and the Royal Military College.
