Marie Appell

passed away suddenly at the KW Health Centre of the Grand River Hospital on Wednesday, December 31st, 2003 at the age of 80 years. Beloved wife and best friend of Robert Appell for the past 62 years. Loving mother of Melvin and his wife Marie-Anne Boulain of Hillsburgh, and David and his wife Lisa of St. Albert, Alberta. Proud and loving grandmother of Andrew and Shayla Appell, and great-grandmother of Clay Robert. Marie is also survived by her sisters Violet Barnick of Kelowna, B.C., and Doreen Bradburn of Guelph. She is predeceased by her daughter Diane Appell and by her brother George Winfield.

Marie was born in Guelph on June 2nd, 1923 and after marrying Bob lived on Sheridan Court in Kitchener for 32 years. In 1986, Marie and Bob retired to Port Elgin to fulfill their dream of living on the water. While in Kitchener, Marie was a member of Highland Road Baptist Church and in Port Elgin attended the Port Elgin United Church. Marie held several leadership positions within the community including being a founding member of the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, President of the KW Arthritis Society, Jaycettes and the Kiwanis Queens.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Marie with her family at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King Street South in Waterloo on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Marie's life and faith will be held at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin, on Monday, January 5th, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gordon Williams officiating. Immediately following the service, friends are invited to join the family at the Port Elgin United Church for refreshments and a time to visit.

Following cremation, interment will take place in Memory Gardens cemetery , Breslau.

Memorial contributions to Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Port Elgin United Church would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Ruth Anderson

After spending a wonderful Christmas Day with her family, the former Ruth Martin of Southampton and formerly of Valens, Ontario, passed away at the Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton, on Thursday, December 25th, 2003, at the age of 73 years. Beloved wife of James Anderson for 49 years. Loved mother of Marion Anderson, Sharon and her husband Gerry Evans, all of Port Elgin, Brett Anderson of Kitchener, and Jeannie and her husband James McCallion of Burns Lake, B.C. She is also survived by her grandchildren Elwin, Noah, and Jason McCallion of B.C., James and Melissa Evans, and A.J. Anderson, all of Port Elgin, her great-grandson Ethan McCallion of B.C., twin brother Reg Martin and his wife Hannah of Sault Ste. Marie, and by her sisters Jean and her husband Rev. Jack Shannon of Niagara Falls, and Fern and her husband Don Moore of Creston, B.C. She is predeceased by her son Scott.

A memorial service will be conducted in the Paramount Drive Memorial Church, 1035 Paramount Drive, Hamilton on Wednesday, January 7th, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Jack Shannon officating. Funeral arrangements in the care of the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin.

Memorial contributions to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Allan "Mac" MacLeod

At the Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton on Friday, December 26th, 2003, at the age of 83 years, Mac MacLeod of Port Elgin. Husband of the former Ellen Riebel. Father of Paul and his wife Diane of Mississauga, and Brenda and her husband Adam Nowak of Brampton. Poppa of Lindsay MacLeod of Mississauga. Brother of Mary Norman of Kincardine and Islay and her husband John Chappell of Port Elgin. Brother-in-law of Jean MacLeod of Inverhuron. He is predeceased by his brother Neil and his sister Jean MacLennan.

Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 28th. Funeral service will be conducted in the chapel on Monday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Julia Morden officiating.

Interment Sanctuary Park cemetery.

The Port Elgin Lodge #429 A.F. & A.M. will hold a memorial service in the funeral home on Sunday evening at 6:45 p.m.

Colin Walsh

Suddenly on Sunday, December 21st, 2003, at the age of 41 years, Colin Walsh of Port Elgin. Father of Keith and Elizabeth, both at home. Son of Keith and Marilyn Walsh of Lindsay. Brother of Tom of Little Britain, and Heather Burnham of Bowmanville. Uncle of Emily Jo Burnham. He is survived by Bob and Darlene Roscoe, by the children’s mother Kathleen Walsh, and by “Aunt Angie” Young. Colin will be missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin, on Tuesday, December 23rd from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in St. Joseph’s Church, Port Elgin, on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., with Rev. Margaret Greenhow officiating.

Juliana Bamford

At her residence in Brantford on Wednesday, December 10th, 2003, at the age of 60 years, the former Juliana Reyneke, formerly of Port Elgin, wife of the late Francis Bamford, mother of Phillip of Vancouver, Alex and his wife Heather of Port Elgin, and Carmen and her husband Lou Szakacs of Brantford. Oma to Devin Smith, Tyler Bamford, and Nickolas Bamford. She is also survived by her family in South Africa. Special “Mrs. B.” to Jeannette and David Sim, and all the wonderful children who were a part of her life.

Father of John and his wife Ann of Edmonton, and Judy Brouillard and her husband Michel of Tottenham. Grandfather of Andrew and Heather Watson, and Leigh-Ann and Ashley McNeil. Boppie to Nicholas McNeil. Brother of Madeline Groves of Orillia.

Watson, John Marshall "Jack"

At Brucelea Haven in Walkerton, on Saturday, June 30th, 2001, in his 84th year, Jack Watson of Paisley, and formerly of Greenock Twp., beloved husband of the former Florence Metcalfe, dear father of Catherine Vanderplas and her husband Case of Oakville, and Bob and his wife Pat Harrington of R.R. 1, Cargill. Cherished Grandpa to Kristy and Rob Vanderplas. Special brother to Bert Watson and his wife Elva of Guelph.

Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Paisley Chapel, 216 Queen St. S., Paisley on Tuesday afternoon, July 3rd, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., when a funeral service will be conducted in the chapel with the Rev. Murray Rounding officiating.

Edna Byers

At the Southampton Care Centre on Tuesday, March 9th, 2004 at the age of 88 years, the former Edna Maurer. Wife of the late Owen Byers. Mother of Gordon and his friend Vickie of Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan, Mildred and her husband Henry Hemstock, and Barbara and her husband Gary Currie, all of Port Elgin. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, two half-brothers, and one half-sister. She is predeceased by all her brothers and sisters.

Harold McTeer

In Grey Gables Nursing Home, Markdale, on Wednesday, December 17th, 2003 in his 87th year, Harold McTeer of Dundalk and formerly of Paisley. Beloved husband of Marjorie (McCullough) McTeer and the late Irene Mooney (1979). Dear father of Gladys (John) Turnbull of Waterloo, Shirley (Bob) Currie of Paisley, Glen (Rhonda) McTeer of Lucan, Keith (Rhonda) McTeer of Newmarket, and Linda McTeer of Kitchener. Will be sadly missed by ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by two sons Wayne McTeer (1994) and Lorne McTeer (1990).

A graveside service will be conducted in Purdy cemetery on Saturday, May 1st, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. George Thomas officiating. A reception will follow at Bradley School.

Joyce Woods

At the Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton, on Tuesday, March 2nd, 2004 at the age of 80 years, the former Joyce Mayo of Port Elgin. Wife of the late Harry Woods. Mother of Stephen Woods of Denver, Colorado, and Lesley and her husband Wayne Eastwood of Port Elgin. Grandma to Ryan and Owen Woods, both in England, Scott and his wife Colleen, Kerry and her boyfriend Rob Carmount of Port Elgin, and Grant Eastwood and his girlfriend Andrea Gifford of Peterborough. Also survived by three great-grandchildren, Spencer, Brittany, and Cole Eastwood.

Private family funeral arrangements are in the care of the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel.

Memorial contributions to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Saugeen Shores Medical Centre Building Fund would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Keith Ferguson

Keith Ferguson of Tobermory and Port Elgin, passed away on Wednesday, February 25th, 2004, in Southampton. Keith fought a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side. Keith was 64. Keith leaves behind his devoted wife Catherine, his son Kyle and his wife Julie of Southampton, and his daughter Christine and her husband Ken McBride of Oshawa. Keith is also survived by three grandchildren Michaela, Kasey, and Megan, and three step-grandchildren Sam, Kory, and Kelly. Keith leaves behind his brother Laurie and his wife Connie of Johnston’s Harbour. Keith will be sadly missed by his friends Roger and Pat Nerney.

Isabel McDonald

passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends at the Sunnycrest Home, Whitby, on Tuesday, February 10th, 2004, in her 98th year, the former Isabel Arbuckle. Beloved wife of the late Neil McDonald. Loving mother of Alex of Victoria, Malcolm of Whitby, and Marjory and her husband Wolfgang Stahlmann, of Miami, Florida. Grandmother of Norman McDonald and his wife Pam of Linden, Ontario, Catherine Stahlmann of Miami, and Jennifer and her husband Peter Thorne of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Great-grandmother of Zachary, William and Jake. Loving and dear friend of Claire Brown of Whitby.
