Verna Marie Sisler
1943 - 2007
SISLER, VERNA: Unexpectedly at her home on Friday, May 4, 2007, surrounded by her loving family, Verna Marie Sisler (nee Killins) in her 65th year. Beloved wife of Ben Sisler for 42 years. Loving mother of Kevin and his wife Vicki Sisler, Vickie and her husband Peter deVos, and Brent Sisler; cherished grandmother of Jessica, Samantha and Clayton Sisler, Andrew and Randi deVos, all of Caistor. Verna was employed by the Attorney General, Cayuga Court House for 32 years. She cherished her grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. Verna was a dear sister of Wayne and Ilene Killins, Bernice and Ralph Beaty, Lyle and Janet Killins, Neil and Jane Killins, Ellen and Lyle Gibson. She was predeceased by her parents Arnold Killins (1979) and Thelma (Fawcett) Killins (2006). Friends may call at Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Tuesday from 7-9 pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 10 at 11 am at Merritt’s United Church with interment at the church’s adjoining cemetery. SJAARDA, KRISTJE (CHRISTINE): on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Shalom Manor in Grimsby, Christine Sjaarda (nee Bakker) was called Home to be with her Lord and Saviour, in her 98th year. Beloved wife of the late Wilfred Sjaarda. Loving mother of Hilly and the late Diedert Schilstra of Smithville, Gay and Bob Schotanus of Fonthill, Willy and Richard Zantingh of Dunnville, Pierre and Martha Sjaarda of St. Anns, Aafke Haveman of Fruitland and Wayne and Gertie Sjaarda of The Netherlands. Cherished grandmother of 35 grandchildren, and 86 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 25 at 11 am at Wellandport Christian Reformed Church. Interment Riverside cemetery , Wellandport. Sharon Hope Slothouber

Slothouber, Sharon Hope - R.N.

On Saturday, February 17, 2007, surrounded by her loving family and friend, Sharon passed on to glory at the age of 51. Deeply loved daughter of Jane (Elgersma) and the late Eric Slothouber, treasured sister to Adrienne (Peter) Boersma, Sarina (Dan) Labonté, Bernie (Nancy) Slothouber, Richard (Veronica) Slothouber and her dearly loved brother Eric Jr. Cherished aunt to her nieces and nephews - Nathan, Elise & David Boersma,Ben & Danielle (Jon) Labonté, Shane & Jessica, Nick, Jeremy, Vanessa, Chris and Natasha Slothouber.

Sharon enjoyed a successful career as a registered nurse working throughout North America. Sharon had a passion for travel, food, and reading and will be fondly remembered by her dear friends Cathy Nishizawki, Linda, Liz, Barb, Jane, and Judy and her many other friends and colleagues.

Sharon is resting at Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street in Smithville. Visiting hours - Wednesday, February 21st from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm. Celebration of her life will be held at Smithville Christian Reformed Church, 6522 Smithville Road in Smithville on Thursday, February 22nd at 3:00 pm.

Memorial remembrances can be made in Sharon's honour to Niagara West Community Hospice or Community Living - Grimsby, Lincoln & West Lincoln.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Paul Cano and Dr. Denise Marshall for their superlative care and compassion throughout Sharon's battle with cancer, the nurses at WLMH ICU, St. Elizabeth's nursing. Special thanks to nurses Barb, Leona, and Barb.

SMYTH, PETER: At his home in Hamilton on Sunday, February 25, 2007, Peter Smyth in his 54th year. Dearly loved son of Eleanor (Ella) Smyth and the late Joseph Smyth (1995). Loving father of Jaguar, and companion of Judi Stevenson. Dear brother of Joseph Smyth Jr. Peter will also be missed by his nephews Michael and Brian, niece Colleen, aunt Violet Blackwood and her husband William, and other family here in Canada and in Ireland. SOURDOU, DOROTHEA: At Deer Park Villa in Grimsby on Friday, August 17, 2007, Dorothea Sourdou (Malelis) passed away in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Gregory Sourdos. Loving mother of Alex Sourdos and his wife Viki of Grimsby, Evangelia Caldwell and her husband Richard of Toronto, daughter-in-law Evangelia Sourdou of Greece, and son-in-law Gabrial Gabrilidis of Greece. Cherished by her ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by her brother Pantelis Malelis and his wife Demetra of Greece, and sister-in-law Agapi Malelis of Syracuse, New York, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son George Sourdos, daughter Chrisathi Gabrilidis, grandson Stavros Gabrilidis and brother Stefanos Malelis. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Tuesday, August 21, from 2-4 and 7-9pm with Prayers at 7:30pm. VANSPRONSEN, DANIEL: On Saturday, January 13, 2007 at McMaster Hospital, the Lord in His infinite wisdom took His child, our son, Daniel Joseph VanSpronsen in his 18th year, after an eight month courageous battle with cancer. Loving son of Maurice and Lorraine VanSpronsen (nee Deboer). Dear brother of Andrew, Alisha (and her friend Tyler Blokker), Jonathan, Jordan, Luke and Lorissa. Dan will be missed by his beloved girlfriend Kaitlin Buitenwerf. Cherished grandson of Henry and Jennie VanSpronsen and the late Agatha Anne VanSpronsen (1988), and of John and Joanne Deboer. Dan will also be missed by many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. The family will receive friends at Vineyard Canadian Reformed Church of Lincoln, 4628 John Street, Beamsville on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. van ZEBEN, TIMOTHY: Suddenly on Saturday, October 13, 2007 in Dalhousie, New Brunswick, Timothy Mario van Zeben of St. Thomas, Ontario in his 48th year. Beloved father of Lisa van Zeben and Curtis van Zeben. Loving son of Maria van Zeben and the late Bertus van Zeben (2006). Dear brother of John van Zeben, Robert and Wendy van Zeben, and Paul and Tammy van Zeben. Tim will also be missed by his nephews Robert, Allen, Shaun and Andrew van Zeben and niece Haley van Zeben. An employee for over 35 years at Stelco, John is survived by his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sisters Veronica Davidson, Mary Wallis, Annie Horbatuk and brother Emile Vishnisky. WALKER, ROBERT: At West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, Robert (Bob) Ernest Walker of Smithville in his 59th year. Beloved son of Orvil Walker and the late Dorothy Walker. Survived by his wife Brenda Walker, sons Brit of Montreal and Trevor of Calgary, and leaves behind his heart-broken dog Kizzie. Dear brother of Donald and his wife Sue of Red Deer, Alberta and Donna Southgate of Chatham. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews Josh, Jeremy, Katie, Sandrina and Emma and will be lovingly remembered by his aunts Lois Burris and Helen Davidson and uncles John Fleming and Murray Walker. For many years, Ruby helped raise the Mooradian brothers and Shirley DeLangis. She will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be sadly missed by Linda Armstrong and her family and remembered by his many friends and his co-workers at Dofasco.
