Suddenly in Chatham, on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, Lionel Gerald Couture, age 72, of Pain Court, beloved husband of 51 years to Evelyn (Demers). Born in Chatham in 1930, son of the late Anna (Barrette) and Wilfred Couture, he worked for T.H. Taylor Flour Mill for 15 years and then for Motor Wheel for 25 years, retiring in 1991. Lionel was also a foster parent for 42 years. He was loving father of Eileen Fitzpatrick, her husband Patrick and his son Michael of Chatham, Father Robert G. Couture of Ste-Anne's Parish in Tecumseh, a late infant daughter, Marie (1952). Also surviving are his foster daughter, Chantal Seed and her husband John of Wallaceburg; a sister, Dorothy Couture; a brother, Clifford and his wife Agathe; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Couture, all of Pain Court. He was "mon oncle" to many children in his community. He is predeceased by a brother, Raymond (2001). Friends and relatives called at the Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. South. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Pain Court. Parish prayers were offered on Sunday at 8 p.m. Burial was in the Immaculate Conception Church cemetery at Pain Court. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

At the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Public General campus, on Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, Lyle Arthur Jubenville, age 61, of Chatham-Kent, beloved husband of Shirley (Myers) Jubenville. Born in Chatham in 1941, son of the late Eva (Barnier) and Wilfred Jubenville, Lyle was a roofer by trade and owned and operated his own business for over 45 years. He was also a member of Br. 628 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Loving father of Debbie Summerfield and Abe of Charing Cross, and Brad Wightman of Chatham. Grandfather of Troy, Tiffany, Dylan, Mercedes and Jonathan. Dear brother of Bernice Faikis and her husband Jerry of Michigan, Monica Bechard and her husband Ralph of Chatham, Loretta Lucier and her husband Roger of Chatham, Velma Paisiovich of Chatham, Doris West of Ridgetown, Sandy Sullivan and her husband Joe of Chatham, Don and his wife Myra of Blenheim, Leo and his wife Tina of Woodstock, Marvin and his wife Lucy of Chatham, Roger and his wife Yvette of Chatham, Beverly and his wife Cecille of McGregor, and Roy and his wife Jeannette of Chatham. He is predeceased by three sisters, Linda, Lois and Rhea; and by two brothers, Leonard and Ronald. Friends and relatives called at the Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. South. The funeral service was conducted in the chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 at 2 p.m. with Father Murray Sample officiating. Cremation followed. At Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, St. Joseph's campus, on Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, Elsie Vanoverbeke, age 95, of Chatham, wife of the late Octave Joseph Vanoverbeke (1975). Born in Belgium on Jan. 1, 1908, she was a member of St. Agnes Church Catholic Women's League. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Zoe Devlaminck of Chatham; her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Vanoverbeke of Sarnia; by nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and by many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a son, Edward (1986); and a great-grandson; by three brothers and by three sisters. Friends and relatives called at the Hinnegan-Peseski Funeral Home, 156 William St. South. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Church. Parish prayers were said at 7 p.m. on Sunday, and the Catholic Women's League was asked to assemble and join the parish prayers. Burial was in St. Anthony's cemetery. Donations to the Diabetes Association or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
