Maurice H. (Moe) Roberge - 06/18/2003

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Monday, June 16, 2003, at the age of 78. Beloved husband and soulmate of Loreen. Loving father of Michael (Ronalee), Wayne (Clara), Danny, Patty, Timmy (Gail) and Ricky. Dear grandfather of Joey, Jason, Jennifer, Ryan, Scott, Adam and dear great-grandfather of Zachary. Survived by his sisters Beth (Don) and Pauline (Bob). Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road at Aviation Parkway on Friday, June 20, 2003 from 11:30am until service time in the chapel at 1:30pm. Interment to follow at Notre Dame cemetery. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Louisa (nee Hanna) Skaf - 06/21/2003

Peacefully in hospital on Saturday June 21, 2003 aged 82 years. Beloved wife of the late Nemtalla Skaf and dear mother of Samira (Salim) Kairouz, Amira (Roger) Haddad, Nahia (Jean) Sayd (Lebannon) and Yousef (Samar) Skaf (Lebanon). Loving grandmother of 27 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Also survived by many relatives in Lebanon. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry 1200 Ogilvie Road, at Aviation Parkway, on Sunday June 22, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9pm Funeral Service will be held at St. Peter and Paul Melkite Catholic Church, 1161 River Road, on Monday at 10:00am. Interment Hope cemetery. For those wishing donations may be made to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Stephanie Jean Slesar - 06/23/2003

Suddenly on Monday, June 23, 2003, at the age of 40. Beloved daughter of Jean and the late Rudy Slesar. Loving sister of Katherine (Robert Decker), Paula (Jeff Boxer) and Marc (Christina Brooks). Loving aunt of Matthew, Shiyan, Grace, Paul and Rudy. Special friend of Bob Laroque. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday, June 25th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, June 26th at 12 noon. Those wishing may make donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

Lorne Stanley Stewart - 06/21/2003

On Saturday June 21, 2003, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer at age 49. Lorne is survived by his two children Angela and Justin; their mother Deborah; loving wife Beverley; stepson Alex. Also survived by his father Jack (Jane); sister Joanne and her family; and other family and many friends. Lorne was predeceased by his mother, Lorna (nee Wurch). Lorne was born in Flin Flon Manitoba. At 17 he joined the Canadian Navy and proudly served for 25 years in Halifax, NS, Aldergrove BC, and Ottawa, in addition to many years at sea. He was employed by the Department of National Defense at the time of his death. Lorne was president of the Ottawa Chapter of the OPFA (One Parent Family Association) for two years and made many wonderful friends through the organization. Lorne s gentle way and keen sense of humour was loved and will be missed by all. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 1200 Ogilvie Road at the Aviation Parkway, on Monday June 23 from 6 to 9pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, June 24 at 11am. Cremation with Private Interment Beechwood cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre 503 Smyth Road Ottawa, Ontario K1H 9Z9 would be appreciated by the family.

Loving granfather of 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Herv , Rh a Cot , Th r se Monette and the late Arthur, Leo, Ernest, Simion, Marcel and Yvonne. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Saturday, July 5, 2003 after 10a.m. until service time in the chapel at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment Notre-Dame cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or the Ottawa Civic Hospital would be appreciated

Ila Mary (nee Alford) Turner - 06/20/2003

Peacefully, surrounded by her family, in hospital, on Friday, June 20, 2003, aged 93 years. Beloved wife of the late Robert. Loving mother of Donnie (Susan), Lynda (Alex Block) and Mary; Stephen, Phillip (Annette) and Petra. Dearest great-grandmother of Robert and Valarie. Sister of the late Ivan. Ila will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel 315 McLeod Street, on Monday, June 23, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday at 1p.m. Reception to follow in the McGarry Family Reception Centre. Interment at Pinecrest cemetery. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreceiated.

Betty Williamson - 06/28/2003

Betty Williamson, 87, an accomplished artist, author, photographer, teacher, fashion illustrator, and gardener, died on Thursday, June 26, 2003. Betty was born in Ottawa, attended Ottawa University, and the Ontario College of Arts. In 2002, Lee Valley published her first book Reflections on the Fungaloids, which highlights her talent as an artist and author. Over the years, many of her photographs have been published in numerous magazines and books, and her home and garden have been featured in "City and Country Homes". Prior to her career as an art teacher at Cantebury High School, she won local and international awards for her fashion illustrations as the art director for Murphy-Gamble Ltd. At the time of her death, she was working on two more books - one on wild orchids and one on cat stories. A beloved friend and mentor, Betty will be missed by all who knew her. She will be fondly remembered by her sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Peter Cain; her brother, Ian Williamson; her nephew, Peter Cain; her niece, Janice Bosley; and her niece and nephew-in-law, Mary Cain and Terry Wedge. As per her request, there will be no formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a charity of your choice that supports nature or wildlife preservation.

Mary Assaly - 07/25/2003

passed away peacefully at her home in Ottawa, July 24, 2003. Beloved wife of the late Ernest W. Assaly. Loving mother to Linda Assaly and the late Richard E. Assaly. Grandmother to Vanessa, Nicholas, Austin, Sabrina and Bradley. She is also survived by her brother George (Edna Assaly) as well as her daughter-in-law Shirley Assaly and sister-in-law Jeanette Assaly, and many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by her brothers Mike, Joe and sister Olga. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter and Paul Melkite Greek Catholic Church, 1161 River Road, Ottawa, on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Pinecrest cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Breast Cancer Society or to the Ernest W. Assaly Nephrology Endowment Fund. Arrangements in care of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry Funeral Homes, Ottawa (613) 233-1143.

passed away suddenly on July 18th, 2003 at the age of 83 years. June is survived by her beloved husband Bob. Loving mother of Carol (the late Wayne Moran), Gerry (Sandy) and Linda (Rick Franks) MacSween. Cherished grandmother to Rod (Luci), Chad, Rian and Stephanie. A Memorial Service will be held at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave at Richmond Road on Monday, July21st, 2003 at 3 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
