Also survived by her former husband Cecil and 4 sisters Doris Hewer, Iva Legeyt, Margaret Edwards and Zella Sarginson. Predeceased by 2 brothers Ross and Wallace Pigden and 1 sister Lillian Franks. Joan will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her nieces, nephews and many friends. July 16, 1907- November 26, 2003 Peacefully at Longsfields Manor at the age of 96. Isabelle White wife of the late John Girouard and mother of the late John (Jr.) Girouard. Beloved aunt to Harriet Joncas, Sean Joncas and Donna Connolly and many other nieces and nephews. Isabelle resided in Sandy Hill (St. Joseph's Parish) and was a shoe saleswoman at A.J. Freiman's for thirty years. In recent years resided at Hycroft Place, Manotick where she was a member of St. Leonard's Church. Our aunt Eva passed away peacefully at the New Orchard Lodge on Thursday, November 20th, 2003 in her 93rd year. She is fondly remembered by her nieces Marjorie Scott, Heather Turner, Carol Seaby, Janet Lafleur, Judy Buttemer and Susan Scott and their families; her nephews Thomas Lindsay and Robert Lindsay and family and her 2 brothers-in-law Herbert Scott and Tom Lindsay. She was a lady, tiny but firm-minded and would be pleased not to have to endure another Ottawa winter. Interment of cremated remains in Vancouver at a later date.
Claire Rosamond Heggtveit (nee St. John) - 11/26/2003
Died peacefully at Carleton Lodge, Ottawa on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at the age of 86. Born August 23, 1917 in Vancouver B.C., the daughter of Charles William St. John and Rose Monro. Wife of the late Francis George Heggtveit. Predeceased by brother David. W.W. II veteran. Friend of Bill W. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, B.A. (1939), M.S.W. (1954). Claire's professional career included employment with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in Europe, and the Social Services Department, City of Vancouver. In 1955 until her retirement, Claire was an economist with the Department of National Health and Welfare in Ottawa where she carried out pioneer studies on the status of women in Canada. She authored and edited numerous publications and reports involving socio-economic research. Claire was an active member of the Canadian Federation of University Women. In 1998, she received the Persons Award from the Governor General of Canada for her lifetime work for the enhancement of equality, and in 2002 was nominated for the Order of Ontario. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Friday, November 28, 2003 from 1 to 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at 2 p.m. followed by interment at Beechwood cemetery.
