L. Ethelwyn Carlyle

CARLYLE, L. Ethelwyn - At Brantford General Hospital on January 31, 2008, Lillias Ethelwyn Carlyle, of Bieldy Knowes, R. R. # 6, Brantford, in her 90th year. Ethelwyn was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas Carlyle and the late Margaret Wilson (Brown) Carlyle. Ethelwyn will be sadly missed by her cousins Mrs. Jean Innes, Mrs. Margaret Meggs, Mrs. Mary McCormick, Mr. and Mrs. Ken and Palm Brown, Mrs. Helen Neill, Mrs. Odette Hamar, and Mrs. Penny Carlyle, and their families, and her dear friends Mr. and Mrs. Verne and Helen Barnim, and Mrs. Mary McCrae. Miss Carlyle was a well-known watercolourist in Brant County whose artistic career spanned over 60 years. She was the former owner of Carlyle Art and Craft Supply in Brantford. The family would like to thank Sandra Vos, Drs. P. Lavelle and T. Hutton, the staff of the Lodge at Telfer Place and the 5th Floor at BGH for their compassionate care. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Ethelwyn will be held at WM. KIPP FUNERAL HOME, 184 Grand River St. N. Paris, Ontario on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the C.N.I.B. or the Glenhyrst Art Gallery.

Laura May (nee Sharpe) Griffiths

GRIFFITHS, Laura May (nee Sharpe) - Peacefully, at Brantford General Hospital, on Saturday February 2, 2008, a lifelong resident of Paris, in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Arthur (1982); loved mother to Margaret of Windsor and Gordon (Marg Shaw) of Toronto; loved grandmother to Stephanie, Mark (Linda), and Christopher Wooden, Anne and Douglas Griffiths, and Eric & Craig Shaw; cherished great grandmother to Matthew and Jesica Soulliere, Kate and Brett Davidson, and Joshua Wooden, and great great grandmother to Dayna Davidson, Abby Soulliere and the late Cody Soulliere (2006). Predeceased by her parents Horace and Elsie Sharpe, her brothers, Melvin, William, and Donald Sharpe, and sister Jean Amy. Cremation has taken place. Friends may call at the WM. KIPP FUNERAL HOME, 184 Grand River St. N. Paris on Wednesday 12- 1 PM. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 PM with Father Stephen Hendry of St. James Anglican Church officiating. Antal “Tony“ Markus

MARKUS, Antal “Tony“ - passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at his home in Brantford, in his 72nd year, with his wife and best friend Debra by his side. Husband of Debra (nee Martin). Father of Alex (Lisa), Andrew (Lise), Elizabeth, Christine (Alex). Step-father of Nicole (Warren), Carl (Nicole). Grandfather of Carly, Caitlin, Mikaila and Ethan. Tony immigrated to Canada in 1956 and made Brantford his home. Tony was a long time employee of L.P. International. Tony loved astronomy, soccer and drag racing. Friends and family will be received at the BECKETT-GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Avenue on Tuesday, February 5 from 7-9 p.m. where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Following the funeral service a reception will be held in the Magnolia Wing of the Funeral Home. Donations may be made in Tony's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. At last Tony finally has a clear view of the stars that he has always longed for. A tree will be planted in memory of Tony in the Beckett- Glaves Memorial Forest.

Dear mother of Joseph, Brantford; Tina and Brian Cogan, Ancaster; and Michael and Michelle, Harley. Loving grandmother of Jonathan, Matthew and Jeffrey. Also survived by her mother Evelyn Adrian, Brantford; sisters and brothers Carol and Dan Blasdell, Cathy and Dave Blasdell, Candy and Roy Carriere, Don Adrian and Lynn, Connie Adrian and Ian, Sylvia Adrian and Murray, Wendy Adrian, Darlene and Bob Casey, David Adrian and Ksenija; a sister-in-law Marie Schooley, Brantford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary John Stockman

STOCKMAN, Gary John - peacefully at his home on Friday, February 1st, 2008. Gary in his 62nd year. Beloved and cherished husband of Hilda, for over 36 years. Loving father to his son Ryan and his wife Tanya, and his daughter Erinn Leigh. Devoted Grandfather to Cole and Logann Stockman. Loving son of John and Jo Stockman of Florida, and son-in-law to Jessie McFarlane, Brantford. Gary is pre- deceased by his mother Eleanor (1979), and his father-in-law George McFarlane (2001). Gary was an avid fisherman who loved the outdoors and was a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. His passing has left a hole in our hearts and he will be deeply missed by his family. Beloved husband and best friend of Dianne for 49 years. Loving father of Ginny Young of Mt. Pleasant, Brian (Yolanda) of Kitchener, and Lori (Brandon) Graves of Brantford. Special Papa to Cody Young, Jordan and Austin Thornborrow, and Nathan Graves. Dear brother of Janet Neal of Westport, Allen (Shirley) Thornborrow of Scarborough, Dawn (Colin) McClelland of Paris, Jack (Mary) Lewis of Paris, and Norma (Wayne) Roper of Ayr. Dear brother- in-law of Rev. Ken (Maureen) Jackson of Georgetown. Predeceased by his mother Jean Lewis (1990), and sister Barb Monroe (1997) and his brother Donald Thornborrow (2004). Bill's family was first and foremost in his life. He was an Elder and member of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He owned and operated “William Thornborrow Trucking“ for over 25 years. Bill had a passion for gardening, photography and music. William “Bill“ Bennett

Loving father of Blair (wife Debra)(Mills) Bennett of Espanola, Walter (wife Mary-Lee)(Martel) Bennett of Lively, Ann Marie Fletcher (husband Keith) of Toronto, Laura Leblanc (husband Andre) of Whitefish, and Billy (wife Tammy)(Lanktree) Bennett of Naughton. Cherished grandfather of Jennifer, Lindsay, Andrea, Adam, Andre, Jake, Joey, Samantha and Jennifer and great granddaughter Talia. Dear brother of Leonard, Fred, Clifford, Marcella, Marg, and Blanche of Bathurst and Annie of Montreal. Dear son of Leonard and Laura (née Ward) Bennett both predeceased. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Bill married Agnes in Bathurst, New Brunswick in 1955, thereafter moving to Whitefish where they settled and raised their family. Agnes and Bill then later retired in 1989 in Tehkummah enjoying the beauties of Manitoulin Island. Bill worked for INCO as a raise driller in the Crushing Plant at Copper Cliff, transferring to Crean Hill in 1964, retiring after 30 years in 1985. His family and friends will forever miss Bill. He leaves behind a legacy of memories of many fishing and hunting trips with his sons and friends. He will also be remembered for the incredible ways in which he was hard working. He was talented, smart and has passed these values of a strong work ethic onto his children. His love of the outdoors also is extended to his children. His battle with cancer ended on February 1st, 2008. He will be sadly missed and not forgotten by all who knew him. Angelina (nee Miolcic) Bublich

BUBLICH, Angelina (nee Miolcic) - Peacefully, surrounded by her family at the Hillside Park Residence, Thursday evening, January 31st, 2008 in her 88th year. Dear daughter of Stjepan and Marija (nee Miolcic- Brikl) Miolcic, both predeceased. Beloved wife of Charles Bublich of Sudbury. Loving mother of Kornelia (husband Denis) Jones of Sudbury and Vally MacIsaac (husband Michael, predeceased) of Lively. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Michael (wife Summer), Jennifer, Stephen (Vicki) , Matthew (May), Alison, Julia and by her great grandchildren Madison and Alexis. Angelina was very devoted to her family and was highly respected as a loving and loyal friend. She was well known for her baking of European tortes and pastry and was looked upon as the “glue“ that held together the traditions of the Bublich family's cultural past. For many decades, Angelina assisted her husband Charles in the family tailoring business known as Charles Tailoring. The family will receive relatives and friends at the CO-OPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd. (at Notre-Dame), Sudbury, Monday February 4th, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. There will be no evening visitation. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, 426 Burton Avenue, Sudbury. Philip Alphonse Collin

COLLIN, Philip Alphonse - passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 2nd, 2008 at St- Joseph's Health Centre Hospital in Sudbury at the age of 83. A long time Railway Man, he proudly served the CPR for 40 years. Philip, a devoted family man, loved telling jokes, singing and playing his fiddle to whoever would listen; and it was always many. Beloved husband of Jacqueline (nee Courtemanche) Collin for 57 years. Dear father to Frances, Mark, Gerry (deceased), Philip Jr. (deceased), Lucy and Laurie Ann, and Father-in-law to Ken, Alynn, Mike and Wolfe. Proud grandfather of Tanya, Mark, Corey, Jeffery, Pamela, Ashley, Wyatt and Morgan. Philip was also a kind brother to 10 siblings, Clement (deceased), Flora, Aurora, Alexander, Theresa (deceased), Katheleen, Adelard, Marie (deceased), Armand and William (deceased). A private service was held at CO-OPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME in Sudbury on Sunday, February 3rd, 2008. Family and friends will be notified of a summer burial service to take place in Cartier, Ont. William John (Jack) Lewis

LEWIS, William John (Jack) - In loving memory of Jack Lewis, 65 years, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2008. Beloved husband of Myrna (Clarke). Loving father of Wendy Beauparlant (Bruce) and Michael Lewis (Nathalie). Dear grandfather of Justin, Adrien and Hunter. Dear brother of Carol Hall (Carl) and Lyle Lewis (Paulette). Son of Bill and Margaret Lewis predeceased. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Born and raised on Manitoulin Island, Jack moved to Sudbury in 1965 to work for The Sudbury Board of Education, where he was a teacher until he retired in 1997. He enjoyed many wonderful times with his family on Manitoulin Island. He loved fishing and he was the happiest on the lake in his boat. He spent many years with The Sudbury and District Pipe Band with whom he went to Scotland in 1984. He took great pride in his children and their accomplishments, and he loved his grandsons dearly. Anthony E. Plexman

PLEXMAN, Anthony E. - We have lost our Rock, our Light, our beloved Anthony. With deepest sorrow, his family announces the passing of Anthony (Tony) E. Plexman, at the age of 64, Friday, February 1st, 2008 at Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. Deeply cherished husband of Catherine (nee Taggart). Loving and devoted father of son Steven (wife Deanna) and daughter Kelly (husband Dave MacKinnon). Adored grandfather of little Ian Anthony. Predeceased by his parents Alois and Eta Plexman. Loved by Catherine's family - John and Karen, Fred and Joan, and Millie. Predeceased by Ann (1997) and Bill (2002). Missed by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Anthony was a big man with an even bigger heart. He was always ready with a helping hand and a quick smile. He was a true and loyal friend and treasured many friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Tony was so proud to serve the community of his hometown as a police officer for nearly 30 years. He had strong convictions of right and wrong and would never compromise his values. While pursing his career, Tony obtained his BA in Criminal Justice from Laurentian University over the course of eight years - a true demonstration of his determination. Anthony was very proud of his children and was always a major influence in their lives. He absolutely delighted in being Ian's Grandpa. Tony loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing and his camp; Tony and Catherine spent many happy times enjoying their retirement together. We will miss the strength and warmth of his hugs, the sparkle in his eyes, his hearty laugh and most of all, his kindness and love. He lived his life with no apologies and no regrets. PYNE, Hazel (Golden) - Of Espanola, born Cockburn Island on April 10th, 1921- February 1st, 2008 passed away at the Espanola Nursing Home at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late Dewey Golden and the late Delbert Pyne. Leaving behind a good friend Fred Bright and his family. Loving daughter of the late Charles and Loletta (nee Mitchell) Catling. Raised by her aunt and uncle the late Jack & Eleanor (Nellie) Ballentyne whom she considered her parents. Loving mother of Wayne Golden (wife Kathy) of Lee Valley Road, Sandra (husband Dan Courtemenche) of Espanola, Dennis Golden (wife Marilyn) of McKerrow and the late Charles, Dwight, Carolyn and Gary Golden (wife Sandra) of Sault Ste. Marie. Dear stepmother to Charles Pyne (Candy), James Pyne (wife Patti), Sharon (Dan) and Beverly Pyne all of the Sault area. Dear mother in law of Jackie Golden of Sault Ste. Marie and also leaving behind good friend Sylvia (Sibi) of Sault Ste. Marie. She will be sadly missed by 23 grandchildren and 29 great- grandchildren. Dear sister of the late Lawrence, Clarence, Victor, Tom, Alan, Wilmur Catling, Velma Leclair, Verna Rickman, Vera Catling and Marie Catling. Hazel was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 39, Espanola and a member of the Moose Lodge in Sault Ste. Marie. Resting at the BOURCIER FUNERAL HOME, Espanola on Monday, February 4th from 10:00 a.m. to the time of the Funeral Service in the funeral home at 3:30 p.m. with the Reverend Paul Walmsley officiating. WESTHAVER, James Francis - In loving memory of James Francis Westhaver, 47 years, who passed away Thursday, January 31st, 2008 at his home. Longtime friend of Maggy. He will be sadly missed by many of his friends, Paul, Michelle, Rolly, Chuck and Mona. Beloved son of Frank and Mildred Westhaver both predeceased. James enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with friends. He will be lovingly remembered as a giving and happy person. Funeral Service in the R.J. Beloved wife Henry Creswell and David “John“ Wiltshire both predeceased. Loving stepmother of David Wiltshire of Ajax and Cheryl Menard (husband Albert) of Elliot Lake. Missed by her step-grandchildren Sean and Clayton Cooper and Jesse and Desiree Menard. Dear sister of Mary, Rose, Jack, Grace, Doris, Allan, Edith, Bill, Roy, Harold, and Howard. Deeply missed by her many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service in the R.J.
