At the age of 87, George passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, July 15, 2009. The world’s best husband and friend of almost 63 years to Joy Logan (nee Thompson). Predeceased by infant son David. Loving and devoted father of Cindy, Ken (Wanda), and Barry (Jane). Adored grandfather of Kimberlea, Cassandra, Barkley, Whitney, Courtney, and Brad. Survived by his sisters, Dorothy Wiber and Orma Fowler; predeceased by siblings Edward, Ella, Omar, Hilda, and Bruce. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. George proudly served his country in World War II, co-founded Triangle Pump Service Ltd.; however, George’s pride and joy lay with his family. He will be remembered by many who knew him as a loyal and dependable friend. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the ambulance service and Ottawa Civic Hospital. Our bright spirit left us in his 24th year, as a result of a tragic car accident, Survived by his grieving parents, Richard Mannion and Catherine Closs. Missing him are his beloved Chaya; his sisters Shannon, Vicki, Leslie, Cynthia (Michael Roney) and his brother and buddy Sean Mannion (Kirsten James). Beloved nephew of Sean Closs and Sheena Waterson, Eileen, Frances and Helen Mannion. Uncle to Liam and Emily Roney, Tristan, Ryan and Dylan Mannion. Cousin to Tara (Sophie and Abby) and Matthew (Stephanie) Closs. Liam had an inquiring mind, a passion for social justice and many many friends. In his short life he volunteered in Africa and Ottawa and was embarking on a master’s program. He was generous, kind and compassionate and was about to hike the West Coast Trail in B.C. We loved him and will miss him greatly. McKiel, John Albert (Bob)
McKiel, John Albert (Bob) On July 19, 2009 in hospital at the age of 90. Born and raised on the shore of the St. John River, Bob served in the navy throughout WW II. He met and married his wife of 65 years, Marie, in Sydney, Nova Scotia. They moved with their growing family to Ontario as Bob pursued his studies, earning a PhD from Queens. He worked at Tunney’s Pasture in Ottawa as a research scientist and Director General. Bob and Marie retired to a hundred year old house on the Atlantic coast in Nova Scotia. He completely rebuilt the house over a 20-year period before they returned to Ottawa. He is survived by his wife Marie (nee MacDonald), his sons David (Mary Jane), Don (Dawn), and Greg (Ross), his grandchildren Maggie (Chris), Andy (Jennifer), Sarah (Perry), Laura as well as 5 great-grandchildren, his sisters Glenna (Paul), Mardie (Ian) and Maxine (Romey). Bob was a hardworking, intelligent and kind man who will be sorely missed by his family. At his request, there will be no funeral.

Predeceased by her loving husband, Emerson, in 1985. Stepmother to Raymond (Leda), the late Clare (Mona), Keith (Marion), and Roger (Catherine). Grandmother to fourteen grandchildren. Special cousin to Nancy Mayhew (of Shawville). Grace was an active member of the Stittsville Woman's Institute, Goulbourn Historical Society, Stittsville Horticultural Society as well as a historical author and philanthropist.
