Formerly of MTO and OHIP Peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital, following a short battle with cancer. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Don/Dad. Son of the late Irwin and Mary Lewis of Kemptville. He is survived by his wife Joan (née Ferguson), sons David (Karin) of Bell Canada and Greg (Josie) of Mac Tools. Peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on Monday, March 22, 2010, Isabelle Banting (nee Turcotte) age 91 years. Beloved wife of the late Arthur Banting of Sudbury, ON (predeceased in 1995). She is survived by her three children, Laurie (Rosie) of Oakville, ON, Robert (Jean) of Golden , BC and Anne-Marie Rossi Hughes (Bob) of Stittsville, ON. Cherished Grams of 7 grandchildren, Rodney, Jarrod, Brianne, Jessica, Jeffrey, Laura, and Allison, and 8 great grandchildren, Grant, Carlos, Ethan, Zabrina, Jayden, Lucas, Julia, and Nicholas. Dear sister of Marie Morrison of Sudbury and Adele Marsh of Thunder Bay. Predeceased by her sister Jeanne d’Arc and brothers Roméo, Roland, and Jean-Paul. Originally from Sudbury, where she raised her family, Isabelle and her husband Art enjoyed a long and happy life together with many friends in Sudbury and at their winter retirement home in Florida. Recently a resident of the Peter D. Clark Nursing Home and prior to that Walden Village retirement home, Isabelle will be missed by many. A special thank you to the staff of Peter D. Peacefully in hospice on March 27, 2010, in his 83rd year. Loving husband for 59 years of Mary (nee Medway). Devoted father of proud daughters Deborah (Mark Rowett), and Shelley (David Loney). Cherished and doting Grandpa of Tamara Dawit, Rebecca and Vanessa Rowett, and Tyson Loney. Survived by sister Clara Margaret Ouellette. Predeceased by his parents John Thoburn and Mildred Rose (nee Shaw), and younger brother Major John Joseph Rose (Maureen). Bill was an accomplished photographer, whose pictures were published in Canadian newspapers and in Life Magazine. He leaves behind a large photographic legacy treasured by his family. He was proud to contribute to three Canadian newspapers: The Winnipeg Free Press (1946-1963), the Toronto Telegram (1963-1971) and The Ottawa Citizen, as Director of Photography (1973-1981), retired 1993. He was instrumental in bringing colour print technology to both the Telegram and the Citizen. Bill was a lifetime member of the United Church of Canada, a founding member of the South Kiwanis Club (Winnipeg) and a President of the Humber Valley Kiwanis Club (Toronto). In his retirement years he enjoyed curling and golf, and later on, bridge and darts became favourite pastimes. His grandchildren remained his greatest joy. A memorial service will be held at Knox United Church, 25 Gibbard Avenue, Nepean on March 31 , 2010 at 3pm. A reception in the Church Hall will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or the Alzheimer Society of Ottawa would be appreciated.
