With great sorrow we announce the death of Agusta Armstrong of Carp, at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, on Saturday, May 9, 2009 in her 90th year. We have lost a kind, loving, strong and quite exceptional woman. She was very hard working and cared for many people in her lifetime. Just two weeks ago, she was living independently, playing cards, baking for everyone, attending church, going about with friends and looking forward to planting her flowers. She was the beloved wife of Milton (2003) for 64 years and a wonderful, loving mother to Evelyn Reid and Kenneth (Gladys). She was so proud of her grandchildren; Cheryl Reid Haughian (John), Christine Reid MacIntosh (Doug), Brent Reid (Allison Cochrane), Kevin Reid (Carole Lemery), Randy Reid (Glenda), Blair Armstrong (Wendy) and Neil Armstrong (Kerri Seigel). Agusta was devoted to her 13 great-grandchildren; Tawnia Pilgrim (Chad), Brittiney Reid, and Amanda MacIntosh; Jordan and Christina Cochrane, and Roman Reid; Kelsey Monnelly; Paisley and Carter Reid; Greer and Jack Armstrong; and Delaney and Aidan Armstrong. Just last year, she was thrilled to become a great-great-grandmother to Paige Pilgrim. She is also survived by her sister Ruby Laronde, sisters-in-law Myrtle Montgomery, Edna McCalpin and Edna Armstrong and her many, many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents William and Evelyn Baird, her sisters Lola McCoy and Mary Logan, and brothers RJ and Douglas Baird. Beloved wife of the late Ivor. Adored mother of Pauline. Dear sister of Myrtle of Chicago, and Edna, Margaret and David (June) all of England; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Nina and Jean, and brothers Donald (Joyce) and Graham (Beryl). passed away peacefully at the Hospice at May Court on Monday, May 11, 2009 in her 89th year. Born in Kingston Jamaica she came to Canada in 1976 with her late husband Horace Rowan-Campbell. Educator, musician, volunteer, creator and nurturer of diverse circles of friendship. She leaves immediate family; daughter Dorienne, son David, son-in-law Tony Fisher, daughter-in-law Donnell, sister Gloria Scott, grandson Rowan Wilson-Smillie and family of Ottawa, grandchildren and great grandchildren in the United States and Jamaica, “son-outlaw” Ian Smillie, nieces, nephews, cousins and other many other relatives around the world. Her wider family includes those of All Saints Westboro, Meridian Place, Sterling Place and Hampton School (Jamaica) and her many past students. Grateful thanks to the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association and the Hospice at May Court. Bourdon, Joseph Guy
After a brief and fierce battle with cancer, Guy left us on May 12, 2009, at the age of 56. Guy leaves behind his devoted partner and wife Judy Kelly, parents Madeleine and Maurice, “Mado et Mo” Bourdon, brother of Carole Needoba (Garry), Danielle, Yves (Dominique), Levy (Marie-Josee), Remy. Son-in-law of Sheila Lawrence and brother-in-law of Randy Pelletier (Corina) and Todd Pelletier (Sue). Guy will also be dearly missed by his life long best friend of 45 years Pierre Bedard (Fabienne Delion). Guy will be missed by his large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and many cousins. Guy was a true “Geek” in the high tech world. His Sun Solaris and Sybase knowledge and skills were second to none. Always the consummate professional, he “didn’t do Windows” but shared his knowledge and expertise mentoring protégés. His colleagues at DFAIT and S.I. Systems will miss him. Grateful thanks are given to the staff of the Ottawa Hospital General Campus, Oncology, for their compassion, kindness and tender care. As per Guy’s wishes, there will be no service. A life long lover railroads and anything to do with trains, Guy has requested cremation with his ashes to be spread along railroad tracks in a favourite location. A beautiful man was taken from us and is now free to continue his journey home to the Lord. Francis was the son of the late Antonio and Josefina Opisso, Philippines. Beloved husband of Marion. Also left to mourn are sister-in-law Linda Chenier (Leonard), nieces Kathleen Braid (son Connor) and Erin Gribbon (son Aiden), sisters Ana Maria Calder (Bill, son James) of Florida, and Maria C. Garcia (Jose Manuel, sons Jose, Antonio, and Pedro) of Spain. Dear family members and friends also reside in California, Argentina, the Philippines, Australia, and New Brunswick. Francis was interested in and cared about those he met in daily life, and was treasured in return. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a translator/interpreter with the RCMP, retired.
