LEIGH, Joan Lucille -
Died at St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto on May 23, 2001 after courageoulsy battling complications resulting from lymphoma.
Joan is survived by her husband of nearly 49 years, David, and daughter Melissa Halcrow and her husband Gary, and their children Jennifer and James, living in Kitchener, daughter Susan, living in Toronto, and son David and his wife Sylvia and their three children, Amanda, Steven and Angus, living in Kincardine, Ontario.
Joan was the youngest of nine children of Harman and Eva Gill and was born in Grand Bend, Ontario. Two sisters remain of this family. Phyllis Hanlon of Burlington, and Helen West of Grand Bend as well as many nieces and nephews.
Right up until the onset of her recent illness, Joan was an active participant in many activities such as yoga, exercise classes, biking, cross country skiing and sailing, and was an avid gardener with a fine appreciation for the beauty of her surroundings.
During her lifetime she took an active participating role in many church and social related organizations, having taught sunday school at St. Cuthbert’s Church in Oakville, was a member of the Chancel Guild in Parishes in London and Hudson Quebec, and was President on the AWC at St. James Church in Hudson.
While living in Oakville Joan was actvie in the Beta Sigma Phi, becoming president of the local chapter in the mid sixties. She shared with her husband David a life long love of sailing and was at various times a member of Yacht Clubs in Oakville, Hudson and Whitby. For the past four years she was active as a volunteer in the Canadian Blood Services clinics at Mount Zion Masonic Lodge in Brooklin Ontario.
Joan was trained as a nurse, and spent her early married years raising the family, and eventually as an empty nester decided on a business career, partnering with daughter Susan in a women’s fashion boutique known as Hanbury-Leigh in Markham Ontario.
In Joan’s busy life she found time to become an avid bridge player, enjoyed fine dining of her own creation, and entertaining friends and family with many memorable meals. She took great pride in the achievements and family values of her children, and followed closely with love and pride the growth, schooling and development of her five grandchildren.
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends, and memorials to her passing can best celebrate her life by contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
Friends and Family will be received at the MEMORIAL CHAPEL BROOKLIN (905-655-3662) 79 Baldwin Street Brooklin from 2-5 p.m. Sunday. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church (Winchester and St. Thomas Sts. Brooklin ) on Monday May 28th, at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will commence at the church Monday morning at 10:30.

MALTON, Frances “Lynn” (nee Barraball) -
At home on Wednesday, May 23rd. 2001 in her 59th year. Loving mother of Sylvia Jessup and Nancy and her husband Steve DiBonaventura. Grandmother of Adam, Taylor, Parker, Halie and Marcus. Beloved daughter of Frances Stacey and the late Gordon Barraball. Survived by brothers Don and his wife Betty Barraball, Bill and his wife Michelle Stacey and sisters Bev Stacey and Barb and John Due. Sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at OSHAWA FUNERAL SERVICE “Thornton Chapel” 847 King St. West (905-721-1234) for visitation on Friday, May 25th from 7- 9 P.M. SKURA, Stanley -
November 13, 1922 - May 23, 2001. Suddenly passed away on May 23, 2001. Our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. Survived by Olive and their 5 children, Sharon, Denise, Eric, Greg, and Steven, sisters Nellie and Emily, 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax on Saturday, May 26, 2001 from 2-4:30 p.m. A Joyous Memorial Service celebrating Stanley's life will follow in the chapel at 4:30 p.m. There will be a gathering of family and friends immediately following the service, at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 606, 1555 Bayly Street, Pickering. Suddenly at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2001 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Mary. Loving father of Doreen and Brian Llaslam, Carol and Stuart Bonnetta, Ron and Laurie Foran, Marlene Foran and Jeffrey Elliott, Peter and Cindy-Lou Foran and Barbara and Pat Bonneville. Grandpa to 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also fondly remembered by his brothers and sister Jack, Lorne, Valerie, Bryan, Elmer, John and predeceased by Joe.

HAM, Leonard James -
passed away peacefully on May 22, 2001 age 96. Dearly loved husband of Annie, loving father of Hazel Cornthwaite, grandfather of Grant and Dean and great grandfather of four. He will be sadly missed.

LANGFORD, Reginald -
At the Lakeridge Health Centre (Oshawa) on Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in his 72nd year. Reginald, son of the late William and Edith Langford. Sadly missed by caregivers Steve and Linda, Conrad and Lauren White. Special friend of Patsy and Neil Chard, Inez Curl and family. Mr. Langford will be resting at the W.C. Peacefully on Monday May 21, 2001 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Born in Lindsay, May 19, 1914. Dennis, dearly loved brother of Jean Hamm, and Ruth Powell. Dear brother in law of Murray Powell and the late Ken Hamm. Loved by three nieces, Carol Delorme, Debra Tebbitt and her husband Dave, and Lori Byrne and her husband John. Loved by great nephew Jason Delorme, great niece Aura Lynn Delorme and great nephew Graham Tebbitt. Predeceased by his father Dennis Houlihan and mother Mary Houlihan. Dennis was a veteran of World War II, a graduate of University of Toronto Faculty of Pharmacy 1937, and retired in 1979 from Oshawa General Hospital Pharmacy Department. A private family funeral service was held at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Oshawa with interment at St. Gregory Catholic cemetery , Oshawa. Memorial donations made to either Lakeridge Health Oshawa - Cancer Clinic, or The Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

KENNEDY, Nancy Craig -
(Member of Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, retired employee of 39 years with T.Eaton Co.) Peacefully in her sleep at her home in Pickering on Monday, May 21, 2001. Loving sister of Beth Mahood and family (Portavogie County Down, N. Ireland) and Jim Kennedy and family (Pickering). The family will receive friends at the McEachinie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 with the funeral service following at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Interment in Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens, Ajax.
