HAMILTON, Gladys Eileen -
After a long illness, entered into rest at Caressant Care Nursing Home, Lindsay on Monday October 8, 2001. Gladys Tompkins, in her 96thyear, was the beloved wife of the late Marvin Hamilton (1982). Dear mother of Beth McEllistrum of Brooklin, Eleanor Berry of Bowmanville, and Jim Hamilton of Oshawa. Loving grandmother of Connie McEllistrum of Stouffville, Joanne Hamilton of London and Kate Hamilton of Guelph. Gladys was predeceased by her sister Hazel Graham and brother Maurice Tompkins. Friends are invited to call at the Mackey Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7-9p.m. Complete funeral service in the chapel on Thursday October 11th at 1:00 p.m. Interment later at Riverside cemetery , Lindsay. As a memorial, donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated by the family.

HILLER, Ethel Venetia -
Peacefully, at the Community Nursing Home, Pickering, on Monday, October 8, 2001. Ethel Hiller (nee Cassis), beloved wife of Donald Hiller. Loving mother of John and his wife Linette, Jim and his wife Joanne. Proud grandmother of Stacey, Wendy, Joe, Danielle, and Joseph. Much adored sister of Sylvia Turner, June Turner and her husband Ken, Victor Cassis, and predeceased by brothers Bob and Jack Cassis, and sister Mary Hanks. Dear sister-in-law of Janine Cassis. A memorial service to be held in the chapel of the McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax on Saturday, October 13, 2001 at 1 p.m. A reception to follow at the Funeral Home. Should family and friends so desire, donations to Ajax and Pickering Health Centre would be greatly appreciated.

HORRIGAN, Cheryl Marguerite -
Suddenly at her residence on Monday, October 8th, 2001 in her 33rd year. Beloved daughter of Dan and Linda. Loving sister of Michael and his wife Vanessa of Bowmanville; and Jeremy and his girlfriend Meredith. Loving grandchild of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard McDermott of Oshawa, and Mrs. Veronica Horrigan and the late Jerry Horrigan of Belleville. Dear niece of the late Tim McDermott, Joanne McDermott and Denny Freeborn, Darrell McDermott, Elaine and Peter Milligan and Family, Irene Horrigan and Garry Hunter. Cheryl will be sadly missed by her cousin Katie Cheryl Freeborn . She will also be missed by her friends Paula, Amanda, David and Trisha of 1035 Olive Avenue. HURST, Bernie -
It is with great sadness, that we announce the death of Bernie Hurst. He was taken suddenly from all those who loved him, on Monday, October 8th, 2001, at the young age of 49. He will be missed immensely by his loving wife Marian, children Tim, Jeff and Angie. Bernie was the dear son of Tom and the late Loretta Hurst. He will be sorely missed by brothers and sisters and their spouses: Barbara and Josef Neubauer, Greg and Krys Reid, Ellie and Gary Borchuk, Chris and Mary Jo Hurst, George and Allie Hurst, Heather and Scott Ames, Franny and Mike Todd as well as his Aunt Mae; father-in-law Tom and the late Mary Gleason and their family. Bernie was an uncle and "pal" to 28 nieces and nephews who will never forget their buddy. He had touched many lives and his list of friends and their love for him was endless. There is no tribute great enough or words with enough meaning to describe the type of man he was and the loss felt by each person who was lucky enough to come in contact with Bernie. O'KEEFE, S.J. Reverend Thomas A. -
Died in the early morning hours (Toronto time) on Monday, October 8, 2001, at the Jesuit Infirmary in Pickering, Ontario. He was in his 91st year and in the 71st year of his religious life. Father O'Keefe was born in 1911 and entered the Society in 1930. Thomas was the son of Cornelius and Anna O'Keefe who are both deceased. He was a Teacher of philosophy and taught variously at Regis College, Toronto, Mount St. Michael's, Spokane and at Campion College, Regina over the years 1950 to 1972. He then became the Chaplain at the St. Joseph Hospital in Peterborough, Ontario from 1972 to 1982. In 1989 he limited his work to the Chaplaincy at Pickering and stayed at that post until recent failing health forced him to take a less active role. He will be remembered by the Jesuit communities he lived in for his quiet strength, attentiveness to his work and profound patience. Friends may call at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home and Chapel, 467 Sherbourne Street (south of Wellesley Street), Toronto on Wednesday, October 10 from 2-4 and at St. Ignatius Chapel at the Pickering Infirmary, at 2325 Liverpool Road, in Pickering, Ontario from 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. lgnatius Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11. Burial at Jesuit cemetery , Guelph, Ontario. In Reverend O'Keefe's memory, donations may be made to the Jesuit Development Office, 1325 Bay Street, Toronto, Ontario M5R 2C4.

RYAN, Winnifred Mary (nee Calder) -
passed away on Thanksgiving Monday, October 8, 2001, after a second battle with Cancer at age 81. We give thanks that she passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side. She is survived by her daughter Jean Cookson and her husband Wayne, her daughter in law Sylvia Ryan, her companion of 40 years, Max MacGregor and her brother Edward Calder and his wife Eleanor. Cherished grandmother of Bob Ryan and his wife Michelle, Glen Handley, Carolyn Donnelly and Erin Greenidge and her husband Jason. Great grandmother of Samantha and Tyler Ryan and Bryce Donnelly. Winnifred is predeceased by her son Ted (1998) and her husband Cyril (Joe-1957). Relatives and friends may call at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East Oshawa on Wednesday October 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of her life will be held from the Chapel on Thursday October 11th, 2001 at 11 a.m. Interment GROVESIDE cemetery , Brooklin.

ROGERSON, Jobn Jock’ A. -
At Northumberland Health Care Centre, Cobourg, on Monday, October 8, 2001. Jock, in his 78th year. Beloved husband of Louise and the late Betty. Loving father of Lynn Bloyce and her husband Martin of Cobourg and stepfather of Catherine Englert and her husband Bill of Port Perry, Tim Kornic and David Komic, both of Oshawa. Dear stepgrandfather of Sarah, Stephanie, Kyle, Jesse, Tyler and Sasha. Predeceased by 2 brothers and 1 sister. Fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Beloved wife of William Burgess of Whitby. Caring mother of Todd of California, U.S.A. and Joel of Guelph. Dear daughter of Harold and Della Holden of Stirling. Sister of Elgin (Sharlene) Holden of Stirling; Lori (Ron) Edgar of Van Kleek Hill; foster sister of Cheryl (Tom) Brown of Hastings. Sister-in-law of Cathy Cormier of Elliot Lake. Loved by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister Eleanore and foster brother Dale Davidson. Daughter-in-law of William Burgess of Ottawa. Sister-in-law of Jim of Ottawa; Gail (Red) Thomas of Metcalfe and Linda Ingram of Ajax. Predeceased by mother-in-law Winnifred Burgess. DAVIS, James Grant -
A talented man, full of love, unlimited kindness, and a passion for music, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2001. Beloved husband of Fran. Dear father of Linda (Max), and Heather (Michael). Loving stepfather of Melanie (Brad), and Shawn (Anna). He will be dearly missed by his much loved grandchildren, nieces, nephews, large family and many friends. Jim moved to Newmarket recently from Pickering, where he was involved in Community service. He was president of the Pine Ridge Blue Grass Music Club in Oshawa, where his talent and great love of music was well known. The many friends he made through his involvement with music will feel that an era has passed. Family and friends are welcome to a musical celebration of Jim's life to be held on Sunday, October 21, 2001, from 1:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m., at Camp Samac, in Oshawa - Simcoe Street north to Conlin Rd., turn east to the north entrance of the Camp, to the Main Council Hall. Peacefully on Sunday, October 7th, 2001 at Hillsdale Manor (Resident of 15 years) in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late Arthur Cyril French. Loving mother of Douglas and his wife Dorothy; Doris and her late husband Stan Matins; Shirley and her husband Austin Beers; Arthur (Bud) and his wife Sharon; Gary; Susanne and her husband Terry Miller; and the late Margaret Beavis and Ronald. Dear grandmother of 19 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Suddenly after a short illness at Ajax-Pickering Health Center on Sunday October 7, 2001 in his 61st year. Beloved husband of Hazel (nee Grylls). Predeceased by father Leonard Holt and Uncle Warren Holt. Survived by brother George Holt. Sadly missed by loving Aunt Vi Holt of Oshawa, and dear Mother-in-law Doris Grylls of Whitby. Also missed by Ron and Ruth Grylls of Oshawa, Lorne and Penney Grylls of Surrey, B.C., Shirley and Maurice Webb of Welland, Norma and Dave Lewis of Austin, Texas and many special nieces, and nephews. HUNTLEY, Ruth Veronica (nee Rogers) -
What a woman she was! Mother, friend, aunt, feminist, seamstress, carpenter, interior designer.... Our Mom, having lived celebrating life to the fullest, died in readiness October 7, 2001 at Nanaimo General Hospital. Her daughters, Maureen and Colleen were privileged to witness her passage from this life into God's arms. Beloved wife of the late Bernard Huntley. Phenomenal mother and friend to Carol, Michael (Janis), Maureen (Paul), Colleen, Susan (Steve), Nancy, Bill (Debbie), Danny, Cathy, Rosemary (Al), Kim (Dave), Marylou (John), Joseph (Bill), and Jennifer (Rob). Predeceased by her sons Timmy and Tommy. Lovingly remembered by Doug Cartier and Joe Sarino. Cherished grandmother of 28 and great-grandmother of four. Loving sister of Beatrice Ouellette. She was supported in her life's journey by her friends Betty Coleman, Marg Talley and sister-in-law Audrey Huntley.
