JAMIESON, Janie Dunlop -
(Member of The Oshawa Golf Club). Suddenly, at home in Oshawa, on Sunday, December 30, 2001. Janie (nee Thom), beloved wife of the late Edward (Ted) C. Jamieson. Dear daughter of the late James Fraser Thom and Marion Muir Thom, formerly of Toronto. Janie will be sadly missed by her cousin Richard Muir McCallum and wife Pearl, niece Martha Goyette of Edson, Alberta, Lise Jamieson, widow of her late nephew Ian Jamieson of London, Ontario, great nephews, Adam Goyette, Nathan Jamieson and Eric Jamieson and her many friends. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. A service will be held in the chapel on Friday, January 4, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janie's memory to Covenant House, Toronto; Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.

UMPHREY, Hilda Victoria -
Peacefully in London, Ontario on Sunday, December 30, 2001 Hilda Victoria (Mansell) Umphrey of Toronto in her 103rd year. Beloved wife of thelate Edwin J. Umphrey. Born in London, England, moved to Winnipeg where she became active in the church and the theatre. Following her marriage to E.J. Umphrey, who was to spend a life career with General Motors, she lived in Calgary, Montreal and Oshawa before making her home in the Toronto area. She was a part time resident of Honolulu for 25 years. Hilda Umphrey was well known across Canada and in the U.S., because of her philanthropic and other interests. In San Francisco she had the honour of representing her late husband as he was inducted into the Automobile Hall of Fame in 1976, joining such famous names as the Henry Fords', racing legend Louis Chevrolet, David Buick and inventors R.E. Olds and Charles Kettering. Her interest in support of the National Association for Retarded Children led her to travel widely. She was guest of honour at the Jeff Umphrey Center for Mentally Retarded when it was opened at Brandon University. This project was built and financed by G.M. dealers across Canada. She shared her husband's interest in Standardbred Horses, showing at the Royal Winter Fair and racing at Ontario tracks. Hilda Umphrey is survived by her brother Edward Mansell of Calgary, her sons Ronald and Jack, her daughters Shirley Wynne and June McKay of London, her sons-in-law Reverend J.F. McKay, Thomas Wynne and her daughter-in-law Barbara Umphrey of Hawaii. Also loved by her seventeen grandchildren and her eighteen great-grandchildren. A Family Service will be held at Islington United Church in Toronto, followed by interment in York cemetery on Saturday, January 5th, 2002. (Arrangements by A. DILLING, William (Bill) -
(Ontario Jockey Club Member Since 1946, Legion Branch 112, Whitby). At the Ajax-Pickering Health Cen­tre on December 29, 2001 in his 76th year. Bill, beloved husband of the late Sophia (nee Yarmola). Loving father of Donna Zimmerman of Maple Ridge British Columbia. Dear grandfather of Brad and Brandon. Predeceased by brother Vernon (Bud), and Earl. Mr. Dilling will be resting at the WC. Town Funeral Chapel, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby on Thursday January 3, 2002 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Legion service at 7:30 p.m. A service in the chapel on Friday January 4 at 1 p.m. Cremation. In memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Whitby Legion.

O'LEARY, Leo Thomas -
passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto on Saturday, December 29th, 2001 in his 64th year. Leo O'Leary beloved husband of Betty O'Leary. Loving father of Sherry and her husband Larry Clark, Ken and his wife Johanne O'Leary, Greg and his wife Linda O'Leary. Dear grandfather of Todd, Daniel, Mary, Samanntha, Taylor, Christopher and Baby. Dear brother of Mary, Colleen, Kaye, Karen, Jean, Lori and their families Friends may call at the Low & Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge, 23 Main Street South, on Monday, December 31st, 2001 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. A complete funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday at 3:00 p.m. Cremation will follow. Memorial donations to the Durham Lung Association would be appreciated.

McDOUGALL, Howard "Howie" -
(Long time member of Alcoholics Anonymous "Simplicity Group". An avid golfer and 34 and 1/2 year employee of General Motors, Oshawa). Peacefully, at his residence, on Friday, December 28, 2001, at the age of 60. Loved and loving husband of Jane (nee Van Blaricom). Very much loved by daughters Wendy and her husband Tom Bolton of Bridgenorth, Sherri and her husband Frank Tanguay, and Diane and her husband Steve Redman. Caring Grandfather of Derek, Jesse and Cutris Bolton, Matthew McDougall and Gina Desgroseilliers. Dear son of Cleo and the late Ken McDougall. Lovingly remembered by his sisters Lorraine (Tom), Ann (Bud) and brother Glen. Howie will be sadly missed by his relatives and many friends. Retired General Manager of Millwork Building Supplies. At Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay on Friday December 28, 2004, Norman Woodward in his 77th year. Beloved husband of Winnifred Stephenson Matthew, for 56 years, of Sunderland. Loving father of Norma Moore of Oakwood, Nancy and her husband Peter Geissberger of Victoria Corners and Edward Woodward and his wife Yvonne of Sunderland. Dear grandfather of Stacey Moore and his wife Melissa of Seattle, Wash., Kally and her husband Mark Robinson of Lindsay, Curtis, Gory and Cohn Geissberger of Victoria Corners, Colleen and Matthew Woodward of Sunderland. Dear son of the late John (Jack) Woodward and Hannah Lambert. Predeceased by his sister and brothers, Rosena Tilling, William Woodward and Gordon Woodward. Woody will be sadly missed by his many family and friends. Norman was born in East Whitby Township on August 20, 1925. He resided in the Oshawa area where he enjoyed farming and being a family man. Rested at the Armstrong Funeral Home, 424 King Street East Oshawa. Funeral service was held in the Chapel on Monday December 31st, 2001 at 11 a.m. Interment was held at GROVESIDE cemetery Brooklin. Memorial donations to the Seniors Memory Disorder Unit of Whitby Mental Health Centre or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Visitation was held on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

BERZINS, Aleksandra –
Peacefully with her family at her side at Fosterbrooke Long Term Care Facility, Newcastle, on Thursday, December 27, 2001, in her 102nd year. Aleksandra (nee Sukacs) wife for 55 years of the late Robert Jekabs Berzins. Loving mother of Normunds Berzins and his wife Ingrid of Orono. Predeceased by her children Juris Berzins and Irma Anderson. Loving Grandma to Ilmars, David, Rowena, Garth, Erik, and Mara; and her great-grandchild and namesake Alexandra Williams and other great-grandchildren in Latvia. Special “Grandma” to her many friends and family. Also missed by staff and fellow residents of Fosterbrooke. Friends may call at NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S. MALTBY, Kathleen -
passed away quietly at Rouge Valley Health Centre, Ajax, on Thursday December 27, 2001 after a lengthy illness. Predeceased by husband William and daughter Pamela. Thank you to the doctors and nursing teams at RVHC and to wonderful friends and neighbours, all of whom made the sad event a little more bearable. Always lovingly remembered by son Richard.
