DUNHAM, Eric Alfred -
Mr. Eric Alfred Dunham, a World War II veteran who served with the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry of England from 1938-1946, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2004. He was 85.
Eric was born on March 22, 1919 and raised in Louth, Lincolnshire, England. He was the eldest of 5 children. On November 29, 1947 Eric married the love of his life, Gwynneth Margaret Cavey and settled in Llanelli, Wales. Their first child, Bernadette was born in 1950. Eric’s adventuresome nature brought the family to Canada in 1952, settling in Oshawa, Ontario where he personally built their dream home. In 1956 their son Duncan was born. Eric worked for Pigot Construction for 25 years and left behind some memorable buildings: the Minolta Tower in Niagara Falls, the Toronto Dominion Towers in Toronto, and the Father’s of Confederation Building in Charlotte, Prince Edward Island. Not a person to remain idle, Eric then joined Kassinger Construction, a position he held for another 7 years before officially retiring in 1984. His love of the outdoors was readily evident by his magnificent "English Garden style" yard that attracted visitors from all around. Eric’s wonderful sense of humor and heart of gold enriched the lives of all who had the good fortune to have their paths cross. He was the wind beneath the wings of so many!
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gwynneth; his daughter Bernadette and son-in-law Ray of Virginia, USA; his son Duncan, daughter-in-law Debbie and his grandchildren Gregory, Brock and Erica of Newtonville, Ontario; his sister Edna and brother-in-law Les; his nephew Ben of Lincolnshire, England; and numerous other dear friends.
Cremation will take place, followed by a private family service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Charity of your choice. Thank you.
