Peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the SAH Plummer Site with her husband by her side at the age of 77. Loving wife of Toivo for 56 ½ years. Devoted and loving mother of Jan (Sue), the late Marty and the late Krista. Grandmother of Sean. Daughter of the late Joseph and Marion Bedard. Sister of Del Bedard (Hilda). Survived by her nephews Richard Bedard (Giselle), Neil Bedard and her nieces Sherry Brancato (Tony) in Toledo, Ohio and Michelle Sauter (Andre) in Toronto. Great aunt to Oriana, Sophie and Stephan Bedard, Michael, Sabrina and Benjamin Brancato and Andrew and Rachel Sauter. Sadly missed by her four “daughters” who have “adopted” Joan as their “mom”, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Stephanie and Susan. Friends may call at the Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Sunday, September 28, 2008 from 6-9 pm. Funeral service to be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 at Elim Pentecostal Church at 1 pm. Rev. Benny Kjiersdam officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Krista Sepp Memorial Fund at Sault College or Teen Challenge would be appreciated by the family.

We regret to announce the passing of 'Vi' at the F. J. Davey Home on Friday, September 19, 2008 in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Charlie. Dear mother of Barbara Vogel and Nancy Lefave of Sault Ste. Marie and Patricia Lefave of Guelph. Loving grandmother of Kerry Childs and Michelle McLarty. Great grandmother of Sarah, Trevor and Ella. Predeceased by all of her siblings; Violet Allard (late Bud), Inez Papineau (late Clarence), Gertrude Rowse (late Glen) and Reg Hilderley Sr. (late Mae). Sister-in-law of the late Celina and Albert Huard, the late Blanche and Carmen Folco, the late Mae and Reg Hilderley Sr., the late Loretta and Art Yeo Sr., the late Frank Lefave (Sadie), the late Eugene Lefave (Elmire), Laurie Lefave (late Nan and Barbara), Ray and Phyllis Lefave and Ed Lefave. Vina will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. A private family service was held at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road 945-7758) on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 with Reverend Phil Miller officiating. Memorial donations made to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer Society or charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

CARKNER, Beulah Marguerite (nee Lawrence)

Born in Avondale, Carleton County, New Brunswick on December 28, 1919. Dear mother to Terry (died October 28, 1961), Stephanie, John, Reginald, Nancy and Kevin. Loving grandmother to Melanie, Terry, Christopher, Markus, Rachel, Jennifer, Meagan, Max and Clyde. Great grandmother to Cierra, Ethan, Tyler, Katilyn, Allysan, Jeremy, Olivier and Miriam. Eldest sister of Melvin, Wilmot, Neil, Audrey, Pauline, Rowena, Muriel and the late Vaugn, Ivan, Dell and Gerald. Widow of Wallace. Auntie to dozens, friend to hundreds. Beulah left school at the age of 14 to work and help support her family during the 1930's. Served as a Corporal in the RCAF Women's Division in World War II. She met and married a handsome airman named Wally when they were both stationed in Summerside, P.E.I. After raising their six children, she returned to school in her late fourties to become an R.N., working fulltime throughout. Upon graduation, she moved to Sault Ste. Marie to nurse until she retired in 1984. She loved especially her years in the NeoNatal Unit at the Sault General Hospital. Lifelong lover of gardening, baking, needlework, saleing, caregiving and travelling to visit her farflung family. Beulah was an active member of City Bible Church for many years. She worked hard all her life and rarely complained about anything, except maybe slugs. In her quiet way, she was a strong, independent woman before it was fashionable to be so. Beulah passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 23, 2008. She will be missed deeply by many, our matriarch. Friends may call at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road 945-7758) on Thursday, September 25, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral and committal service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Sam Norbo officiating. Graveside interment of ashes will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the family plot at Springhill Cemetery in Metcalfe, Ontario. Memorial donations made to Tendercare Residents' Council or City Bible Chapel would be appreciated by the family.

Suddenly on Sunday, September 21, 2008 with his loving wife Norma by his side in his 56th year. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Enid. Dear brother of Chris (Cathy). Son-in-law of Marge Knopp (late Bud) and grandson-in-law of Gladys Steinburg. Brother-in-law of the late Fred Knopp (Alice), Shirley Sweezy, Cindy Nelson (Dennis), Timmy Knopp, Terry and Bobby. Special uncle to Ryan, Tyson, Fred Jr., Sam and Ben. Special nephew of Glen MacLeod. "Smelt" will be sadly missed by many life long friends, special cousins and his beloved dog MacGregor. A private family service and cremation was held. Interment will take place at a later date. Donations to the Renal Dialysis Unit at the Sault Area Hospital would be appreciated by the family in appreciation for their wonderful care. Peacefully passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, September 20, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of Ambrose (Andre) and the late Alick. Loving mother of Christopher (Marie Pine), Gina May and David (Gloria Wynne). Cherished grandmother of Amanda, Brad, Chad, Tyler and the late Alick Jr. Dear sister of Alice Manary (Dennis) and predeceased by William Black (Irene), Howard Black, Georgina, Robert Black (late Rena) and Ronald Black. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Christopher and Eva Black. Loving mother of Patricia Simon (John), Bob Taillefer (Betty), Jerry Taillefer (Barbara), Joe Taillefer (Donna) and the late Reg Taillefer (Barbara). Proud grandmother of John, Jane, Jennifer, Kory, Jason, Kelly, Jennifer, Sarah, Aja, Aundrea, Paula and Marc. Great grandmother of 10. Helen is predeceased by her brother Joseph Stadnik (late Sylvia) and sisters Mary Evans (late Ewart) and Amelia Dupuis (late Buck). Dear sister-in-law of Paul Taillefer (Lorna) and Leo Taillefer (late Marie) and predeceased by Jim Taillefer (late Florence), Ann Matheson (late Fred), Jerry Taillefer and Frances Mantha (Aime). Helen will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Violet & Nane Rivers and nine brothers and sisters. Wife of the late Clarence. Beloved mother of Terry, Patricia Walsh (Terry), John (Joan), Michael (Darlene), Howard, Helen Biluk (Bryan), Marty (Kim) and Tina (Tom). Grandmother of 17 and great grandmother of 13. At Margaret’s request no service will be held. The family wishes to extend great thanks to the Palliative Care staff of the Sault Area Hospital.
