Bob Keeble, 75

PRESCOTT -- Robert Edgar "Bob" Keeble, 75, of RR 2, Kemptville, died February 7 at Kemptville District Hospital.

He was born April 11, 1927 in Pulham, England, the son of George Keeble and the former Violet Gillings. He married Lucy Buck on July 31, 1949 at Hellesdon in Norfolk, England.

Mr. Keeble worked as a farm labourer. His interests included hunting, fishing, golf, birdwatching and horse racing.

He is survived by his wife Lucy of Kemptville, daughter Christine Slater and husband Chris of Prescott, and two grandchildren, Rob Slater of Whistler, B.C., and Michelle Slater of Toronto.

Also surviving are two brothers in England, Norman Keeble and wife Yvonne and Geoff Keeble and wife Jane, and one sister in England, Margaret Smith and husband Ernie, as well as several nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law Betty and Rose.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Truman and Allan Keeble and sister Ena Mills.

Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, where on February 10 the funeral was held, with Rev. Gerry Ring, Anglican Church, officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery in Kemptville.

The pallbearers were Rob Slater, Perry VanAllen, Stuart Spoor, John Lamoureux, Dalton Gilmer and Reg Weedmark.

Memorial donations were directed to Kemptville District Hospital.

George Styles, 84

ATHENS -- George Morley Styles, a retired railway engineer, died of heart failure December 19, 2002 at Brockville General Hospital after a six-month illness. He was 84.

He was born September 21, 1918, at Morrisburg to Roy Carlton Styles and Dora Bowman and was raised and educated in the village.

He married Vera Tousaw May 19, 1939, at Morrisburg. The couple lived in Brockville then settled in Athens in 1957.

Mr. Styles worked as an engineer for the Canadian National Railway before his retirement 30 years ago. He enjoyed gardening, blacksmithing and learning about his family history.

He was a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge No. 85 AF and AM, Brockville and District Shrine Club, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 96 and Leeds and Grenville Genealogical Society.

Mr. Styles is survived by his children G.E. Styles (Deborah) of Abbotsford, BC, and Shirley Davies (Gerald) of Sault Ste. Marie, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and brother Gerald Styles (Georgina) of Williamsburg.

He was predeceased by his wife and parents.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Judson Funeral Home. There was no funeral.

Memorial services were held by members of the Rising Sun Lodge and Royal Canadian Legion December 22.

Interment will be at St. Lawrence Union Valley Cemetery, Ingleside, in the spring.

Greg Sparrow

City flags are at half mast as Brockville Police mourn the death of one of their own last night, January 22, 2001.

Constable Greg Sparrow, 44, died just before midnight at Brockville General Hospital after a nine-month illness, Inspector Adrian Geraghty said.

"He touched a lot of hearts in the City of Brockville, " Geraghty said of Sparrow's 22 years as a front-line patrol officer. "He performed his duties exceptionally well."

"Mere words cannot express the deep personal sorrow that is shared amongst all our members, " Chief Barry King said.

Sparrow is survived by his wife, Joanne, parents Ira and Janet of Brockville and his brother, Murray, and family of Timmins.

Funeral arrangements will be in the care of the Irvine Funeral Home.

Evelyn Chisholm, 70

Evelyn Janet Chisholm, 70, a retired registered psychiatric nurse, died June 21, 2003 at Brockville General Hospital.

She was born April 4, 1933, in Brockville to Percy Milton Markell and the former Lucy Alma Norman. She grew up in Brockville and went to Kingston to take a nursing course. Graduating as a registered psychiatric nurse, she eventually worked in all three hospitals in Kingston.

She returned to Brockville in 1975 and worked as a sales clerk at Woolco and at Zellers until her retirement in 1977.

She was married to Donald MacDonald; they were later divorced. She was married to Edward "Ted" Dalton Chisholm, from whom she was later divorced.

Mrs. Chisholm used to sing in her church choir when she was younger. She enjoyed camping in various parks in her earlier years. She liked doing crafts, listening to music and reading. She was keenly interested in her family.

She is survived by her son John MacDonald and wife Sharon of Brockville, daughter Dawn MacDonald of Toronto, and five grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Cassendra, Scarlet and Michaela.

Also surviving are her brother Richard Markell and wife Evelyn of Brockville and sisters Alice Wedgewood and husband Ron of Ottawa and Gwen McManus and husband Wayne of Athens, as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Mrs. Chisholm was predeceased by her parents and by a brother, Robert "Bobbie" Markell, in 1992.

Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, on June 23. Cremation was arranged. Donations to charities of the donors' choice were gratefully acknowledged by the family.

Hilde Nolting, 74

Hilde Minna Hanna Nolting, a founding member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, died of a stroke June 12, 2003 at Brockville General Hospital, aged 74.

She was born December 30, 1928 to Friedrich Ridder and Anna Ridder in Bentorf, Germany, and was raised and educated there.

She married Reinhard Nolting in Hertford, Germany April 14, 1950. The couple worked the Nolting family farm in nearby Winterburg. Mrs. Nolting soon had three children, and farmed with her husband.

She came to Canada in 1957, settling on a farm near Junetown in May of that year. She began learning English from her neighbours and later in English as a second language classes.

In the years that followed, the couple had two more children and began their work towards the organization of a Lutheran church in Brockville. The church, and the Evangelical Lutheran Women, became a focus of her life.

Mrs. Nolting's son, Bernhard, died suddenly in 1980. Grateful that the St. James Ballycanoe parish allowed him to be buried in their cemetery, she created a German-style flower garden at the church. She cared for it for the rest of her life. She became a familiar sight, riding her bicycle along country roads to tend to her garden.

Her family remembers her warmth, generosity and ability to make any visitor feel welcome. She was known for her Sunday afternoon cake and coffee.

The Noltings stopped farming in the early 1990s but continued to work on their rental properties in Brockville and to take yearly trips to Germany.

After Mr. Nolting died in 1997, Mrs. Nolting began to spend more time at their cottage at Charleston Lake and eventually sold the Junetown farm and moved to Brockville. She also enjoyed travel, especially visits to Cuba, where she danced, walked on the beach and even tried snorkeling.

She also enjoyed trips to Camp Lutherlyn on Golden Lake.

Mrs. Nolting was predeceased by her husband and her son Bernhard.

She is survived by her sons Frederick Nolting and his wife, Edith, Rev. Charles Nolting and his wife, Val, and her daughters Ingrid Haskin and her husband, Wade, and Anne Cameron and her husband, Bob, and grandchildren Bianca Tessier (Jason), Mathew and Erin Haskin, Kelsey and Shane Nolting, Skyler and Sean Cameron. Also surviving are brother Friedrich Ridder and his wife, Lieselotte, sisters Martha Strunk and Irene Frevert, and her husband Bernhard, of Germany, and by several nieces and nephews.

Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home. The funeral was held at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church June 16 with Rev. Timothy Kuhlmann officiating. The eulogy was given by Charles Nolting and Bible readings by Bianca Tessier. The pallbearers were Bob Cameron, Mathew Haskin, Wade Haskin, Eckhard Jostmeier, Jason Tessier and Gerard Asbreuk. The honorary pallbearers were Don Clunas, Glen Hess, Ira Sparrow and Wolfgang Zahn.

Interment followed at St. James Cemetery, Ballycanoe.

Memorial donations were directed to St. James Cemetery Fund, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Memorial Fund and Camp Lutherlyn.
