Korleen Shirley Stone, 82, formerly of Stones Corners (RR 2, Brockville), died December 19, 2001 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital.
She was born June 17, 1919, in Brockville to Charles Frederick Landon and the former Florence Estella McLean. She was raised in South Augusta and attended Read's School.
On July 25, 1937, she married Eric William Stone in Prescott and became a housewife. She lived in the Bethel area and South Augusta and then moved to Stones Corners in the late 1970s. After her husband's death January 22, 1994, she moved to Brockville.
She and her husband operated a market garden for several years, selling from their own farm. She also loved horses, and her husband was a well known horse trainer and driver.
Mrs. Stone was a member of St. George's Anglican Church. Her main interests were her home and family, but she also enjoyed travelling and had taken several trips to Florida. She also enjoyed playing cards and loved to go berry picking.
She is survived by her son Ronald Stone of Gloucester and daughter Florence Allan of Brockville, grandchildren Robin and Lisa Allan of Brockville and Tyler and Karrie Allan of RR 3, Brockville, and seven great-grandchildren, Eric, Erin, Shawn, Dylan, Ryan, Kody and Colby.
Also surviving are her brother Ken Landon and wife Nellie of RR 2, Brockville, and sisters-in-law Geraldine Crippen and husband Ross, Gwen Howley and Lillian Stone, and brother-in-law Alton Stone and wife Marion, as well as several nieces and nephews and close friends Judy Hadley and Terry McIntosh.
Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, where on December 22 the funeral was held, with Father Claude Delorme officiating. Burial followed at Read's Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Rob and Tyler Allan, Eric Allan, Jeff Stone, Bryan Pittman and Bruce Davy.
Memorial donations were made to St. George's Anglican Church and the Canadian Cancer Society.
Wilfred Dake, 54
PRESCOTT -- Wilfred Thomas Dake, 54, of RR 2, Spencerville, died December 2, 2001 at Brockville General Hospital.
He was born June 9, 1947 in Brockville to Charles Earl Dake and the former Gertrude Lillian Forsyth.
He started working in 1964 in the Prescott Paper Products factory. Later he started to drive a truck.
In 1970 he began working for Polite Sand and Gravel (formerly owned by the late Peter Polite) as a truck driver and enjoyed his 10 years there.
In 1980 he started working for the municipality as a truck driver and continued in that employment until his death.
Mr. Dake married Marjorie Donna Throop on November 6, 1970 in the United Church in Spencerville.
The couple started a lawnmowing business, which they named W & D Lawnmowing. Both enjoyed the business and worked hard to maintain it.
His main interests were his home and family, and he and his wife enjoyed watching their two sons race snowmobiles on the grass in summertime racing events.
He liked going to auction sales, travelling many miles to buy antique machinery.
He became a member of the "Antique Wheels in Motion" club and along with fellow club members he displayed old machinery in operation at various events. He became a director of the club.
He was particularly proud of his grandfather's Massey-Harris 101, which he restored.
His niece, Crystal, then started using his tractor during antique plowing events, and he enjoyed attending these, most recently the weeklong International Plowing Match in Navan, Ont. last September.
Mr. Dake is survived by his wife Donna Dake; two sons, David and wife Tara of RR 4, Prescott, and Darryl at home; sister Faye Reddick and husband Lloyd of Prescott; and brother-in-law Garry Throop and wife Margaret and mother-in-law Marjorie Throop, all of Roebuck.
He was predeceased by his parents and father-in-law Howard Throop.
Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, where on December 4 the funeral was held. Rev. Claude Delorme of St. Peter's Anglican Church, North Augusta, and Rev. Rob Arsenault of St. Laurence O'Toole Church, Spencerville, officiated. Burial followed at Maynard Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Delbert Stephenson, David and Darryl Dake, Brian Reddick, John Richards, Gary Chapman and Richard Stephenson.
Memorial donations were made to the Canadian Caner Society and to the following church cemeteries: St. Peter's Anglican, North Augusta; Christ Church, Lords Mills; St. Theresa, Throoptown; and St. Laurence O'Toole, Spencerville.
Donald Shaver, 73
PRESCOTT -- Donald Frederick Shaver, 73, died December 27, 2003 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital.
He was born April 5, 1930, at Prescott to Fredrick Shaver and the former Evelyn Brebent.
On March 8, 1969 he married Jessie Helena Slater at St. Paul's United Church, Prescott.
He worked as a machine operator at Prescott Finishing, a textile company.
His interests included playing the organ and playing cards and other games.
Mr. Shaver is survived by his wife Jessie, stepsons David Martin and wife Kathy and Brian Martin, grandchildren Ann Barton and Jennifer Martin and great-grandchild Andrew Barton.
Also surviving are his sisters Eleanor Engelsdorfer and Margaret Jannack and husband Alfred.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Wallace.
Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott, on December 29. The funeral was held December 30 at St. Paul's United Church, with Rev. Laurie Milito officiating. Linda Anderson gave the eulogy. Burial followed at Sandy Hill Cemetery, Prescott.
Memorial donations were directed to Hospice of Providence Palliative Care-St. Vincent and the Canadian Cancer Society.
Elizabeth Barkley, 79
PRESCOTT -- Elizabeth Barkley, 79, died December 13, 2001 at Rosebridge Manor, Eastons Corners.
She was born in Scotland on April 20, 1922, the daughter of Jim and Elizabeth Henderson. She married James Barkley and stayed home as a housewife.
She is survived by two daughters, Pat Harper and husband Don and Sheilla Stewart and husband Rae, son Don and wife June, two sisters, Phyllis and Helen, and 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter Wilda and three brothers.
Friends called at the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott where on December 17 the funeral was held, with Rev. Blair Patterson officiating. Burial followed at Cardinal United Cemetery.
Memorial donations were directed to the Canadian Cancer Society and St. Paul's Building Fund.
Eileen Tuttle, 85
IROQUOIS -- Eileen Hazel Tuttle, 85, died January 6, 2004 at St. Lawrence Lodge, where she was a resident.
She was born July 12, 1918, in Williamsburg Township, the daughter of Earl Van Allen and the former Lottie Weaver.
She married Charles Tuttle on January 12, 1946, in Morrisburg.
Mrs. Tuttle worked for Beavers Dental in Morrisburg. She loved to crochet and bake.
She is survived by her five children, Sheila and husband Lyle Millward of Brockville, Fiona and husband Duane St. Pierre of Cardinal, Sharon Stoddart of Brockville, Susan Tuttle of Brockville and Jim and his wife Isobel of Riverside Heights, as well as eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles, brothers Dwight and Clare Van Allen, sister Lillian Wylie and son-in-law David Stoddart.
Friends called at the Marsden and McLaughlin Funeral Home, Iroquois, before the funeral, which was held January 8 in the funeral home, with Rev. Patricia Martin officiating. Burial will be at Spruce Haven Cemetery in the spring.
Memorial donations were directed to Winchester Hospital or St. Lawrence Lodge.
