Guy Bergeron, 74

Paul Emile Guy Bergeron, 74, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 4, 2005 at Kingston General Hospital after a short illness.

He was born to Paul Bergeron and the former Marguerite Valentine on August 28, 1930 in Ottawa, where he grew up. He married Georgette Lemay on July 5, 1952, and shortly afterwards they moved to Brockville and began their family.

Mr. Bergeron was employed by DuPont of Canada in Maitland until 1972, when he transferred to Kingston. He retired in July 1985 but continued performing contract work for DuPont in Kingston and Whitby.

Throughout his life he was active and involved. He enjoyed hockey, boxing, coaching, umpiring and golfing. His most recent hobby was collecting "logo" golf balls and he was proud of the 2, 400 he had on display.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and president of the Champlain Club in Brockville for many years.

Retirement did not slow him down. He and his wife purchased a condo in Margate, Florida, where they quickly enlarged their circle of friends. They enjoyed their lives as snowbirds and Mr. Bergeron served as president and then active member of the condominium association and played shuffleboard and golf.

He had always enjoyed singing and acting, and in Florida he performed in the annual Senior Starlighters theatrical productions. This past winter he was to have performed as Tevye in the group's March production of Fiddler on the Roof, which was dedicated in his honour.
