MYERS, Joseph Addison
At Hillsdale Estates, Oshawa on Thursday, January 2, 2003 in his 97th year. Dearly beloved husband of the late Isabel Payan. Loving father of Carol Elliott and her husband Jack of Peterborough. Step-grandfather of Jaclyn (Merle) Davis and Janie J.R. McGee both of Peterborough and step-great-grandfather of Brienne, Matt, and Lauren Davis and Madison and Brooke McGee. Predeceased by his brothers Stanley and Clare and his sister Marjorie Wallace. Joe was born in 1906 near Balsam Lake, and attended L.C.V.I. He was a long-term employee of Goodyear and was transferred to St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, in 1928, where he worked in accounting, as office manager, Assistant Controller, Superintendent and Factory Manager prior to retirement. He saw active duty in WWII with the St. Hyacinthe Regiment (Royal 22nd Regiment) and rose to rank of Lt. Col. in the Reserve unit of the regiment. Joe was a member of St. Jean United Church, St. Hyacinthe and Kingsview United Church, Oshawa. Through the years, he participated actively in the Lion's Club, Richelieu Valley Volunteer Centre and Le Pavillion as well as Sydenham Kiwanis Club Oshawa. After retirement, Joe acted as a consultant for C.A.S.E. for several years. He enjoyed traveling to distant lands as well as winters in Port Charlotte FL. His lifelong hobby was woodworking and he had a keen interest in genealogy. Joe had a zest for life and knowledge. He was always interested in helping others and did so selflessly. He was truly loved and will be sadly missed by all.
