SISTER MARIE-ELISABETH PHILION Sister of Charity of Ottawa, died Tuesday, October 10, 2000, at Ottawa, age 78 years, after 57 years of religious life. Daughter of the late Donima Philion and the late Florida Gagne. Born in Hull, QC, she entered religious life in August 1, 1941 and pronounced her first vows July 15, 1943. Survived by her religious family and four sisters, Mrs. Therese Therien of Vanier, Mrs. Denise Richer of Gatineau, Mrs. Liette Belanger of Hull, Mrs. Lise Lepage and her husband Roger also of Hull; two brothers, Lucien and his wife Lina of Hull and Jean-Guy and his wife Therese of Orleans; one brother-in-law, Yvon Cote (Jeannine ) of Hull, as well as many nieces and nephews. Resting at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa, 9 Bruyere St., Ottawa. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the chapel of the Motherhouse, Friday, October 13, at 1:30 p.m., followed by interment in Notre-Dame cemetery , Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa suggest the offering of a mass for the repose of her soul, or a donation to a charity of your choice.

SMITH, Allison Meredith A beautiful, bubbly and caring daughter was suddenly taken from her loving family on Saturday, October 7, 2000, age 19 years. Daughter of Reg and Jennifer Smith, younger sister of Melanie and Leah. Granddaughter of Henrietta Smith, Monica and William Blane. Sister-in-law of Mike Lauzon. Niece of Terri Blane, Pat and Harold MacDonald, Vic and Marybeth Smith, Penny and Bill Mesa. Cousin of Matthew Scott, Trisha Galipeau, Lynne and Joey MacDonald, Neil, Sheila and Brian Smith, Arthur and Charlie Mesa, Sophie and Daniel MacDonald. Allie recently graduated from Merivale High School and was a part-time worker at Loeb, Lincoln Fields. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes 3440 Richmond Rd., Nepean (between Baseline Rd. and Bayshore Dr.) on Thursday, October 12th and Friday, October 13th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, October 14th at 11 a.m. Interment Rideauvale cemetery , Kars. In Allison's memory, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Marian Sweet, at the age of 80 years, will be remembered dearly as beloved mother of Ronald, Kenneth (Joanne), Garry (Anna) and Larry (Christine). Loving grandmother of Meagan, Tanya, Caroline, MacKenzie and Brent. Predeceased by her father and mother Thomas and Ethel Brownlee, her long time companion Jack Harrison, her sister Beverly Maxim and brother Oral. Survived by her sisters Gladys Tripp and Shirley Poole. The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses in the I.C.U. for their exceptional care and compassion. Friends may call at Fairview Funeral Home at 1092 Ogilvie Road, Gloucester (just east of St. Laurent Blvd. between Cyrville and Cummings) on Friday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Ottawa Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.

WYLIE, Milton (Mel) Died Saturday, October 7, 2000 at Island Lodge. Predeceased by his wife of 64 years Gladys, and his brother, Laird. He leaves behind his brother Lewis Wylie, daughter Rae Wylie-Ross, grandchildren, Bill Ross, Kathryn (Steve) and Linda (Ted). Great-grandchildren, Alex, Rachel and Matthew. Born in Oxbow, Saskatchewan he began working for the British-American Oil Co. (Gulf Oil) in Winnipeg, Manitoba, transferred to Halifax, Nova Scotia from where he retired. After 17 years of travel they made their home in Ottawa. He was a long-time member of Khartum Temple in Winnipeg. If so desired, in memoriam donations to charity of choice. Our thanks to the staff of Allan House, Island Lodge for their kindness and excellent care. A Memorial Service will be held in Brantford, Ontario.

Dear sister of Rose, Adeline (Noel Vaillant) Lucille (Leon Miron) and Florian (Therese Renaud), brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Frederick (Gladys Simmons), Dorothy (late John Cyrs). Predeceased by Father Leo Joanisse OMS, Philippe (Sophie Mayer), Gilbert (Rhea Belair), Simone (late Roger Labelle), Fabien (Laurencia Robillard) and Gerard (Fleur-Ange Proulx). Survived by 7 grandchildren John, Jason, Valerie, Sean, Gregoire, Sara and Alexandre and 1 great-grandchild Simon. Predeceased by grandchild France. Also survived by many nephews, nieces and close friends. Resting at La Cooperative Funeraire de l'Outaouais at 1369 La Verendrye West Blvd., Gatineau on Thursday, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 p.m. and on Friday starting from 9 a.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Notre-Dame de l'Ile (Sacre Coeur) Church, Hull. STARR, Pauline (Polly) Peacefully May 6, 2000, 13 days shy of her 89th birthday, superbly cared for during her 4 years at New Orchard Lodge, Polly Goode, wife of the late Glenn Starr (1966). Loving and devoted mother of Erin Elizabeth and her husband John Reeves. Beloved older sister of Marjorie Murray of Truro, Nova Scotia. Predeceased in childhood by her older brother Roy and youngest sister Betty, and in 1999 by her brother Harold Goode (Babe). Much loved "Aunt Polly" of Colin Murray (Dartmouth, N.S.), Susan Rifici (Nelson, New Zealand) and Heather Shandro (Vegraville, Alberta). Cousin of Beryl Biefer of Ottawa, whose kindness was greatly appreciated. Remembered by all her many friends at MacKay United Church for her faith and devotion to charity, especially the High Horizons Group. In accordance with Polly's wishes, she was cremated, and her urn will be interred in the Goode family plot in Truro, Nova Scotia. A Memorial Service to celebrate Polly's life will be held at MacKay United Church, 257 MacKay Street (New Edinburgh) on Wednesday May 10th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the High Horizons Group at the church, or to the Activities Department at New Orchard Lodge would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements in care of the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry.
