BARR, Leonard C. Peacefully at his home in Lanark, Ontario on Sunday, August 19th, 2001, Leonard Carson Barr in his 82nd year. Husband of the late Greta (Elliott) Barr. Eldest son of the late Mack and Jean Barr and son-in-law of Addie Elliott and the late Dolphie Elliott. Dear father of Lynda (Keith) Sweeney of Lanark, Barbara McCann of Carleton Place, Allan (Joyce) Barr of Ottawa, Maxine (Rick) Topping of Balderson, Susan (Paul) Shane and Randy (Donna Wilson) both of Lanark and Beth (Barry) Bulloch of Balderson. Surviving are brothers Dan (Peggy) and Glen Barr and sisters Lulu (the late Bill Craig), Dorothy (Ollie) Wallace and Ruth (the late Gordy) Houston. Leonard was predeceased by brothers Peter, Harris, Ronald, Jack, Graydon, Craig, Donnie and Dewey. Fondly remembered by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Leonard was well known for his baseball pitching and his love of the game. He had a talent for fine woodworking and fiddle making and his masonry expertise is evident in the many fieldstone fireplaces that he built. Leonard was proud of his fiddles and enjoyed when Jack and Gerald dropped in for "A tune" - Thanks guys. BERRY, S.R. (Bob) B.Sc., B Ed., M Ed. Former Principal of Woodroffe High School One of the community's most active educators, S.R. (Bob) Berry died on August 18, 2001 at Starwood Nursing Home. He was active on the Ottawa education and music scene for over 40 years, starting his teaching career at the High School of Commerce in 1938. He later moved to Glebe Collegiate and became Director of the well-known Glebe Lyres Club. In the early 1960's he was appointed the first Vice-Principal of Hillcrest High School. In 1964 he was named the first Principal of Merivale High School, and later transferred to Woodroffe High School as Principal. He was as active in music as in education becoming Founder and Director of the Metropolitan Insurance Association Ladies Choir. He played for 15 years with Cliff Tripp's Band in the Canadian Grill at the Chateau Laurier, and for 4 years with the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra at the N.A.C. He held degrees in both vocal and instrumental music. He was a member of Local 180 Musicians Union. He was Past Governor of District III of Gyro International, and Founder and first President of Kanata Gyro Club. He was the Founder of the Ottawa/Carleton Teachers' Credit Union, former Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian College of Teachers, Honourary Treasurer of the Children's Aid Society. Bob was a keen golfer and curler, being Past President of River Mead Golf Club and a member of the Canadian Seniors Golf Association and the Ottawa Curling Club. Bob was also honoured with the Smeation-Muir Award for outstanding professional & community involvement O.S.S.T.F., District 26. Also awarded Emeritus Membership in Phi Delta Kappa. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Helen (Honey) McNeill, his daughter Lynne Acheson, son-in-law Robert D. Acheson, two grandsons, Michael of Wainwright, Alberta and Mark of Ottawa. Predeceased by his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Berry of Guelph and 4 brothers. His sister Mrs. R.C. Lane (Edythe) resides in Toronto. BRADLEY, Brenda Peacefully in hospital Sunday, August 19, 2001, Brenda Anne Bradley, age 51, ended her battle with cancer. Brenda is survived by her husband John and her two children Mark and Jennifer. Most humble thanks to Dr. Eva Tomiak for her guidance and compassion above all of her hard work.
