CROTHERS, RICHARD THOMAS (Proprietor - Crothers Twin Lakes Marina, Barrister & Solicitor) peacefully in Midland on Thursday, May 27th, 2003, in his 62nd year. Richard Crothers of Orillia, beloved wife of Susie Crothers. Loving father of Cindy Crothers of Orillia, Wendy Godfrey & husband Michael, Ricki Crothers all of Gravenhurst, Sarah Crothers of Guelph, Tracy Kowch & husband Darrol of Kelona, B.C. and Shawn Miller of Kitchener. Also loved by his grandchildren Richard Crothers, Jenna and Ryan Godfrey, and Taylor Crothers. Dear son of Beina Crothers and the late Thomas Crothers of Bobcaygeon, brother of William Crothers & wife Morven of Markham, David Crothers of Australia and their families. The late Mr. Richard Crothers will rest at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St.,N., Orillia from 7-9 P.M. Wednesday and 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Thursday. A Private Family Service is to be held. Cremation to follow. If desired, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

II Veteran - Royal Canadian Dragoons, overseas; Former Captain - Cadet Services of Canada; Past Pres. - Orillia Y's Mens Club; Avid bird watcher & active member of the Naturalist Club) suddenly at the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital on May l, 2003; in his 79th year. Bill Cunningham, of Orillia, beloved husband of Bunny (nee, Herbert) for 52 years. Loving father of Pamela Byrne & husband Clifford of Kangirsuk, Quebec, Susan Bishop & husband Douglas of Markham, John & wife Jacqueline of Barrie. Cherished grandfather of Jessica & Trevor Byrne, Nicole & Amanda Bishop and Nicole & Gregory Cunningham. Dear brother of Alfred & wife Irene, Roy & wife Jacqueline, all of Etobicoke. Respected brother-in-law of Gordon Herbert & wife Carol of Thornhill, Douglas Herbert of Orillia and missed by many nieces & nephews. Following cremation, the family will receive friends at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia on Saturday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 P.M. Then to St. James' Anglican Church, 58 Peter St., N., Orillia for a Memorial Service on Sunday afternoon, May 4th at 1 o'clock. BROWN, MARY AGNES - peacefully at the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital on Thursday, July 10, 2003; in her 86th year. Mary (nee, Nichol), of Orillia and formerly of Saskatchewan, beloved wife of the late Gordon A. Brown (1986). Loving mother of; Roger and wife Louise, Larry and wife Laura, all of Orillia, Betty Hughes and husband Gary of Bass Lake, Linda Brown of Prices' Corners and companion Gord Morehouse. Dearly loved grandmother of, Jim, Debra, Brenda, Bill, Mark, and 10 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Amy Murray and Irene Sinclair, both of Victoria, B.C. Also lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Dorothy McKeen of Whitby and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by infant son, Robert, sister Margaret Spaetgens, and brothers Hugh and Jim Nichol. A memorial funeral service with reception to follow will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Hwy. 12 at Price's Corners, on Thursday, July 17, 2003 at 2 PM. BYER, ELAINE peacefully at Yorkview Life Care Centre, Toronto, on Thursday, April 24th, 2003 in her 87th year. Elaine Byer of Toronto, beloved wife of the late Ora Byer. Loving mother of Ruth Smith and Lloyd Smith. Also loved by her 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. Survived by her sister Mary, brothers Ross and Lyle. Predeceased by a grandchild, brothers and sisters Myrtle, Gertrude, Melville, Arthur, Cecil, May, Evans, Jean and Rita. The late Mrs. Elaine Byer will rest at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St.,N.,Orillia from 7-9 P.M. Sunday and from 12 noon until time of funeral service in the chapel, Monday afternoon, April 28th at 1 o'clock. Interment ; St. Andrew's-St.James' cemetery , Orillia. If desired, memorial donations to the Charity of Ones Choice would be appreciated.

COLLINS, John "David" -Suddenly, yet peacefully in his sleep at the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital on Saturday, July 5th, 2003; at the age of 67. Loving and cherished husband of Joan. Beloved father of Kevin and wife Maria of Newmarket, Leo and wife Mary-Lou of Brantford, and Joe of Newmarket. Proud grandfather of John David, Steven Paul, and Robert Leo. Dear brother of Earl (Joan), Alice (Alton), Laura (Ernie), and Peggy (Neil). Predeceased by his parents Leo & Elizabeth Collins, of Montague, P.E.I. David will be fondly remembered by many relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N., Orilllia from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M., Monday. Funeral Service in the chapel on Tuesday afternoon, July 8th at 3 o'clcok. Parish Prayers will be held in the parlour at 6:45 P.M. Douglas, Irene Eleanor

DOUGLAS, Irene (Myrt) Eleanor -at Champlain Manor, Orillia on Friday, April 11, 2003 in her 90th year. Mrs. Douglas is remembered by her son William and his wife Violet, 5 grandchildren, Rosemarie, Bill, Karen, Bryan and Paul, and 4 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Bill Douglas who she married in Hamilton on May 31, 1934. Born in Hamilton on November 13, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Nellie Reid. She lived in Hamilton; Toronto; her cottage at Joyland Beach; Uptergrove; Legion Crest Complex, Orillia; and Champlain Manor Retirement Residence, Orillia. Mrs. Douglas owned with her husband a thriving Fish and Chip Restaurant (Janesway Fish and Chips) in the west end of Toronto (Jane & Harshaw). She, over her 25 years in business life, was the provider of a second home to the many who came to her store and called her a friend. The family wished to extend their deep appreciation to the staff at the Champlain Manor Retirement Residence, Orillia for their care, attention, warmth and compassion. She will be remembered by her family as cheerful, loving, caring and a person always there for support. A private mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Columbkille's Roman Catholic Church, Uptergrove followed by interment at St. Columbkille's cemetery.

Downing, Mary Lou

Date of Death: July 20th 2003
DOWNING, (nee, RUMBLE) Mary Lou passed away Sunday evening July 20th, 2003 one day before her 72nd birthday at the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. Wife to Robert Downing, mother to Eric (predeceased), Laura & Mark, loving grandma to Kassandra, Ashley, Erika & Alexis and mother-in-law to Bill & Daniela. Mary Lou had been recovering from the amputation of her right foot and was working very hard and well on her way to regaining her mobility. She was able to spend one last week at her home at Fern Resort with her family and friends. We all came to rely on Mary Lou's wealth of knowledge and extensive experience in the resorting industry in our daily lives. Her quick wit, amazing anecdotes and abrupt one-liners kept us on our toes and forever in good humour. In her last year Mary Lou was finishing a book on the life and times of Fern Resort. She was also very happy to have been back to her beloved Ft. Lauderdale this past winter as well as seeing the finalization of the new conference center named after her parents. With a heart open to everyone that ever met her, Mary Lou was a lover of family and friends with an unquenchable need for knowledge. She influenced generations and will be greatly missed by the people whose lives she filled with love. The late Mrs. Mary Lou Downing will rest at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia on Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 P.M. and on Wednesday afternoon, July 23rd at St. Paul's United Church, 65 Peter St., N., Orillia from 1 o'clock until time of Funeral Service at 2 o'clock. Cremation to follow. If desired, Memorial Donations to the charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated.

DUFFY, ISABEL peacefully at the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, May 27th, 2003; in her 83rd year. Isabel Duffy (nee, Donnelly), of Udney, beloved wife of the late Theodore Duffy. Loving mother of Rosemary & husband William Chisholm and Ken & wife Anita all of Udney. Cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Christopher, Jason, Eric, David & Ben. Dear sister of Mrs. Janet Globe of Toronto, Arthur and Aaron both predeceased. Lovingly remembered by nieces and nephews. The late Mrs. Isabel Duffy will rest at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St., N., Orillia from 7 - 9 P.M. Wednesday and 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 P.M. Thursday. Then to St. Columbkille's Church, Uptergrove for Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning, May 30th at 10 o'clock. Interment :- St. Columbkille's cemetery , Uptergrove. Parish Prayers will be said in the parlours Thursday evening at 8 o'clock.
