Ernie Houston passed away peacefully at the age of 81 with his family at his side on Tuesday, November 19, 2002. Loving husband and life partner of 60 years to Marjorie (nee Livingston). Devoted father of Tom, Joy, Scott and John and dear father-in-law of Carmen, Andy, Ramanie and Jane. Adored grandfather of Dana, Tom, Mark, Matthew, David, Robbie, Sean and Katie. Ernie is survived by his brothers Arthur and Edwin and predeceaced by his sister Joy McKnight and his parents Ernest and Gladys. All will remember what a warm and caring man Ernie was as an insurance broker, as a member and Past-President of the Ottawa South Kiwanis Club as a the Head Usher for 22 years at Bethel Pentecostal Church. He has a special charm and sense of humour that endeared him to all he knew. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Glebe Centre (Bronson Place) Nursing Home for their compassionate, loving care of Ernie over the last two years. Friends may pay their respects at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry 315 McLeod Street on Thursday, November 21, from 2-4p.m. and 7-9p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Bethel Pentacostal Church, 500 Viewmount Drive at 2p.m. Friday, November 22. Born at Podczerwone prov., Krakow, Poland. Retired employee from the Village of Rockcliffe Park. Peacefully at Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre on Wednesday, November 20th, 2002, age 79 years. Beloved husband of Hilda (Mitchell). Dear father of Steven (Sandra) of Fort McMurray, AB, Ann Kosowan (Garry) of Ottawa, ON, Janet of Kanata, ON, Eric of Whitby, ON, Paul (Lee-Ann Martin) of Carp, ON and John of Nepean, ON. Cherished grandfather to Alissa, Kyle and Craig Hudy, Amy and Michael Kosowan. Also he leaves a sister-in-law Terry Steele and her son Mitchell of Clay, New York, USA and several nieces and nephews. An avid outdoorsman with his fishing buddy Jim Huddleston. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue at Richmond Road on Saturday, November 23rd, 2002 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion may assemble for a Service in the Funeral Home on Sunday at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 2340 Baseline Road on Monday, November 25, at 11 a.m. Interment Capital Memorial Gardens. We will miss you. In hospital on Wednesday, November 20, 2002, aged 56 years. Much loved husband of Ann Haakman and devoted stepfather of Irena, Celina, Lianna and Jim. Terry was a well respected member of the Ottawa legal community and senior partner of MacLaren Jameson. He will be missed by all who loved him. Retired from The Department of National Revenue and Taxation after 34 years of service passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13th at the Ottawa Hospital, General Campus, at the age of 57. Sister of Thomas Joy (Gwen) of Ottawa and Gordon Joy (June) of Prescott, Ontario. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair, and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, on Friday, November 15th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, November 16th, from 9 a.m. until service time in the Chapel at 11:30. Peacefully on Saturday, November 16th, 2002. Predeceased by her husband Charles William and sons Charles and Paul. Loving mother of Marie (Andre Hosson), Horace, Mary (Peter Laneville), Nan (Marshall Gauthier), Karl (Gail), Lucy (Roger Garneau). She also leaves behind two sisters in Belgium, Yvonne and Georgette and her grandchildren; Nathalie, Sebastien, Michele, Horace Jr., Theron, Nathan, Matthew, Jennifer, Maria, Alain, Pierre and great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Tyler and Alexis. Funeral service to be held, Tuesday, November 19th at 2 p.m. in the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Elisabeth Bruyere Centre, Palliative Care Unit are appreciated. Very suddenly at home on Friday, November 15, 2002 at the age of 40. Survived by his best friend and loving wife Karen (nee Hitchman) and his adoring son Liam. Dear son of the late Jack and Maria Konrad. Nephew of Harry and Lise Tress. Sadly missed by cousin Susan (Andrew), mother and father-in-law Ronona and Walter Hitchman, sister-in-law Kelly (Paul), niece Jaimie and nephew Timothy. Rick will also be missed by his many friends from St. John Lutheran Church, Ottawa, Rideau Lake and the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Ottawa. All will remember a warm and caring man and will feel his loss deeply. Peacefully and unexpectedly in his sleep Karl Heinz departed on Thursday November 21, 2002 at the age of 69. He will be sadly be missed by his three daughters Barbara Hohenstein, Dolly Erbrecht (Bernd Erbrecht), Helga Galla (Steve Galla) and his dear son Norbert Lukowski (Suzanne Lukowski). Son of the late Andreas Lukowski and Brunislava Schwaig of Gelsenkirchen, Germany, where Karl was born on January 12, 1933. Also predeceased by his brother Stephan Schwaig and his loving wife of 40 years Anna Elizabeth Lukowski. Dear and loving grandfather of Andreas and Petra Hohenstein, Rebecca, Paige and Lisa Galla, William, Nicholas and Anna Marie Lukowski. Nieces, nephews, and a great many friends from around the world will also sadly miss him. Karl will be remembered for his extraordinary building abilities and tributes. Karl, a learned carpenter from Germany, immigrated into Canada in 1956. Karl was known to be hard working, honest and a man who had many ideas, initiatives and aspirations. Through his hard work he established and owned the Zum Dorfkrug Restaurant with his wife Anna Lukowski. His friends and the German Community will miss him deeply and friends will remember him with great respect. Nancy Marjoribanks (Nee Pitman) - 11/15/2002
Nancy Marjoribanks died peacefully in hospital in Ottawa on November 14, 2002 after a short illness and in the presence of Robert, her devoted husband. She was 78 years of age and had planned to celebrate next month the fiftieth anniversary of a happy marriage. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Duncan in California and Duncan's son, Iain Lawson Marjoribanks, Robin and Catherine in Toronto and Catherine's husband Mark Askwith and their daughter Mary. She will be sadly missed by her sister Pixie Wilson, in Abbotsford, British Columbia, her brother Duncan Pitman and his wife Joanne in Salem, Oregon, and by many nieces and nephews as well as Robert's brothers Iain and Cameron, his sister Sheila, and their close family friend Tom Hendry. Many people found her an understanding and never-failing friend. Among her colleagues in Glebe - St. James United Church, in her arts and crafts groups, as a member of the International Club of Ottawa, and in the international Marjoribanks Family organization she was seen as a lady of great charm and grace and a humble and willing worker in good causes.
