John George Ross - 04/11/2007
John George Ross
ROSS, John George Mr. John George Ross, one of nature's true gentlemen, passed quietly to his eternal reward shortly after 1 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2007 at the Hospice at May Court. He was sixty-three. The passing of this beloved father, grandfather and friend, quiet and unassuming though he was, will leave a vacant spot in the lives of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Mr. Ross was born in Orillia, Ontario in 1943, the son of Andrew and Saddie Ross. John's career in the military began in 1963 and saw him serving in Bagotville QC, Cold Lake Alta, Lahr Germany, Zweibruken Germany and Ottawa, Ont. John retired from the military in 1998 at the rank of Warrant Officer, but couldn't stay away from the camaraderie he found there. It didn't take long before he was manning the ADAM help desk at DGAEPM in Ottawa and interacting with Air Force members all across the country as the first point of contact for AMCROs with aircraft maintenance tracking questions. He is predeceased by parents Andrew and Sadie Ross, brothers, Andrew and Donald and sister, Francis MacKaracher. Left to mourn their irrevocable loss are his ex-wife, Marilyn Brown (Fredericton, NB), three daughters, Corina (Fredericton, NB), Wendy Bishop and husband Doug (Whitehorse, Yukon) and Vicki (Fredericton, NB), nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are a large circle of relatives and friends. John will be sadly missed, but his spirit will live on in the special memories we cherish of him. Sincere sympathy is extended to the sorrowing family. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Rd (at Aviation Parkway) on Friday, April 13, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at the National Military cemetery (Beechwood cemetery ), 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa with a reception afterwards at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry.

Jane Sless - 04/05/2007
Jane Sless
Our dear Jane passed away gently in her sleep as Passover began, on Monday April 2nd, aged 53. Predeceased by her beloved father Henry and mother Nancy. Loving sister of David. Born and raised in Scotland, Jane lived in Bristol and in London before emigrating to Canada in the 1970's to work in community nursing, caring for her clients with her unique humour and compassion until her illness forced her to stop last year. She fought cancer with feisty vigour and passion, finding acceptance and peace in the last few weeks. She was well known throughout Wakefield for her long walks, colourful clothes, ready smile, her acting prowess with the Wakefield Players, her duties as a "Biblio Babe" in the local library and especially for her enthusiastic dancing and love of music. Jane was a fixture at the Black Sheep, and at all the music festivals in Ottawa, always the first on the dance floor, with her long grey mane swinging, and the last to leave. Thank you to the wonderful doctors, social workers, nurses and therapists at the Gatineau Memorial Hospital for their sensitive, compassionate care. Special thanks to all the loving friends and neighbours who came through with time and energy, enabling Jane to spend some of her last weeks at home, enjoying outings to her favourite places. She will be sorely missed by her cousins in Britain and her many friends here in Canada. She asks us to "laugh at the end". Visitation at McGarry Chapel, 139 Valley Road in Wakefield, Quebec on Saturday April 7th from 0:930 until service time at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, Jane would like donations to be made to the Wakefield Library, the Wakefield Players, and the Gatineau Memorial Hospital in Wakefield. "Robe her in the mantle of Thy grace, bright with the ornaments of the celestial Paradise, and, sheltering her beneath the tree of Oneness, illuminate her face with the lights of Thy mercy and compassion."

Sabloff, Dr. D. Pugh, Dr. J. Seeley, Dr. T. Eapen, Dr. O. Kify and all the wonderful nurses on 8W.
