Verla Morrow

Rhéa Lantaigne

Rhéa Lantaigne died peacefully at St. Jacques Nursing Home in Embrun on May 5, 2004 at the age of 84.

She was born in Lorrainville, Quebec, to Phillipe Morin and Irene Vigneault. Educated in Belle Vallée, she moved with her family to Kirkland Lake where she met and married her first husband, Hervé Lauzon.

In December of 1956 she married Gabriel Lantaigne and moved to Belle Vallée to work in the general store owned by him. Mrs. Lantaigne went on to live in Haileybury, North Bay, Toronto and then returned to New Liskeard until illness forced her to be in a nursing home in the Ottawa region since 1999.

Mrs. Lantaigne loved to knit, crochet and sew and nothing was more important than her family. In the last year of her life she could not remember all the things she did that had an impact on her family’s lives, but they said they will never forget. The hardest thing for her children was learning to love the mother they had while enjoying the memories of who she used to be.

Mrs. Lantaigne was predeceased by her husbands Hervé and Gabriel; step-sons Aimé and Pierre Lantaigne; sisters Lucienne and Juliette Labonté, Angele Dupuis; brothers Charles, Gabriel, Albert and Emile.

She is survived by her children Mariette (Ludger), Claudette, Roger (Cathy) and step-daughter Terry Johnson; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sister Estelle Lauzon; and brothers Lucien (Sybil) and Phillipe (Nancy).

Cremation was in Ottawa and a memorial service was held in Embrun on May 8.

Burial will be in the New Liskeard Catholic cemetery.

The funeral was arranged by Buffam Léveillé Funeral Home in Haileybury with the service conducted by Reverend Brenda MacMain on May 22 at the Golden Age Club.
