Kelly, John Lawrence – passed away Sunday March 14, 2010 in the QEII Health Sciences Center, Abbie J. Lane Site.
Born September 24, 1917 in Charlottetown, PEI, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Gertrude (Brogan) Kelly.
He married Constance Viola Smith of Dartmouth, NS on August 6, 1940.
This union brought forth 11 children.
John was foremost a husband and caring father.
In his younger years, he was an avid hockey player in Junior A with Charlottetown.
Later, he joined the army and served overseas during WWII with the PEI Highlanders from May 15, 1940 to December 21, 1945.
After the war, he worked as a machinist with Department of Transportation, then retired and worked seasonal maintenance with his sons at Hartlen Point Golf Course.
John is survived by daughters, Diane Shepherd, Dartmouth; Sandy (John) Huson, Kitchener, Ontario; Debbie (Al) Williamson, Kitchener, Ontario; Holly (Cecil) Carr, Eastern Passage; Cindy (Bruce Langille) Kelly, Dartmouth; sons, Jack (Heather), Dartmouth; Jim (Carrie), Eastern Passage; Steven (Debbie), Shubenacadie; Dennis (Brenda), Truro; Robert (Carla McBride), Dartmouth; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews of PEI; special niece Noreen and great-niece Mary.
He was predeceased by his wife Constance Viola and son Joseph.
John was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A graveside service will be held 2pm Wednesday, March 17 at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
There will be no reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to a charity of choice.
