SHAHIN, Albert. Peacefully at home on Sunday, September 21, 2014, surrounded by people who cherished him. Dear husband of Sylvia Akairib, who, for 54 years, built a family with him, loved him, and cared for him when he needed it most. Devoted father and father-in-law of Rita Shahin and Allan Esser, Mike Shahin and Gail Mitchell. Loving grandfather of Adrian, Kayla, Daniel and Tong. Son of the late Menashe and the late Regina. Dear brother-in-law and brother of Violet and the late Naji, Daisy and the late Shoua, Mary and the late Joe, Evelyn and the late Anwar, Shoshana and the late Fouad, the late Louise and the late Nazem; brother-in-law of Alice and the late Naim Dabora, Ferial Akairib, Meir Akairib, and the late Amal Akairib Hardoon. As the last of seven brothers, Albert’s death marks the end of an era for his family. He will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives whose lives he touched. In his mid-20s, Albert left his birthplace of Nasriah, Iraq, for a new life in Canada, where he established his own firm, building his business on respect and trust, and working until his final days. His entrepreneurial success allowed him to take care of his family, his life’s greatest accomplishment. Albert and Sylvia faced their challenges together and, over the years, built a deep and abiding love. His pride in and generosity toward his cherished children was boundless. Albert was deeply respected by members of his tight-knit community, his business associates and friends. He will remain forever in our hearts. The family would like to express deep gratitude to the health-care angels who cared for Albert and never failed to lift his spirits; nurses Carole, Kathy, Giovanna and Christine; Doctors Gruber, Ofiara, Borod and Towers; caregivers Gina and Lysel; and many others. Brother of Jack (Beverley), and Allan (Signe) and their families. David leaves to mourn his wife Glenys, his daughter Elyce (Danny), and his son Kenneth. Papa will be deeply missed by his adored grandchildren Marc, and Sara Minogue; and Laura, Tommy, and Sofia Tencer. David was born and raised in Montreal and graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce and enjoyed many successful years as an entrepreneur. He served on several Boards and was an accomplished equestrian with the Montreal Hunt. David’s greatest passion in life was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren especially at his seaside home.
