Hilda Pesner

PESNER, Hilda (nee Tarshis). Peacefully, on Monday, November 17, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Bernard Pesner. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Nina, Stephen and Maureen, and Barbara. Proud grandmother of Alex and Becca. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Lawrence and Greta Tarshis, Esther and the late Ellis Tarshis, the late Syra and the late Hy Fleishman, and sister-in-law of Yule and the late Morty Pesner, the late Martha and the late Morty Rother. Hilda will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of 3A at the Jewish Eldercare Centre for their care and kindness. Graveside service on Wednesday, November 19 at 1:00 p.m., at the Beth-El Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, November 18, 2014, in his ninety-ninth year. Beloved husband of Margaret Gillies for seventy-five years. Devoted father and father-in-law of Heather and the late Lorne Hart, Mark Bernstein and Deborah Corbett, Lewis Bernstein and Barbara Barrett, the late David Bernstein. Cherished ‘Grampy’ of Geoffrey Hart and Shoshanna Green, Shay Hart and Michel Boutin, Sean Hart and Tony Warner, Kelly and Mike Harvey; Scott Bernstein and Tania Lalonde, Ryan and Stacy Bernstein, Jessica Bernstein and Jean-Michel Creusot, Valerie and Adam Lepine, Sara and Todd Lane, Sheila, Colin and Meagan Barrett-Bernstein; Darren and Wendy Bernstein, Gavin and Laura Lee Bernstein, Russell and Fatoumata Bernstein. Proud great-grandfather of fourteen. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Sarah and the late Bill Reiner, Norma and the late Seymour Miller, and predeceased by his other siblings and their spouses, Fanya and Al Tucker, Bennie and Leah Bernstein, Mary and Issie Potechin, Clara and Louis Bronstein, Louis and Claire Bernstein, Ida Bernstein, Ula and Annie Bernstein, David and Margaret Bernstein, Hilda and Al Foreman, Issie and Evelyn Bernstein. Brother-in-law of Lillian Stark, the late Doris and the late Dan Carrigan, and the late Mary Johnson. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Zelda Yaffe

YAFFE, Zelda (nee Stein). It is with great sadness that Zelda’s family announces her passing on Sunday, November 9, 2014, in her ninety-seventh year. Devoted wife of the late Saul U. Yaffe for sixty-four years. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Peter Yaffe and Joyce Kitty, Brenda and Gary Caplan of Florida. Cherished ‘Nana’ of Robin Yaffe and Sergio Lombardi, Richard Yaffe all of Toronto; Stephanie Caplan of New York, Rayna Caplan and Matt Brown of Oakland, CA, Ilana Caplan and Jeff Scott of Mt. Horeb, WI. Loving great-grandmother of Olivia and Sofia; Lily and Izaac; Alexander and Mirabel. Special friend of the late Boris Levine for six years. Predeceased by her sister, Rose Stein Shaposnick, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Lou and Zetta Stein, Sam and Frances Stein, Martin and Shirley Stein, Saul and Claire Stein; her sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rose and Sol Korman, and Morton Yaffe. Dear sister-in-law of Sylvia Yaffe of Toronto. Zelda was a paralegal before marrying and having two children, Peter Yaffe and Brenda Yaffe Caplan. She was an active sports enthusiast for many years, in her early years playing tennis, curling and skiing, and later on, playing golf and winning many golf awards and trophies. She was active in her Hadassah chapter, Migdol, where she was President several times as well as holding many other positions. She was Ladies President at Elm Ridge Country Club in Île-Bizard. Zelda was a skilled bridge player, playing almost until her passing. She was an avid reader and obtained her many books from the Jewish Public Library of Federation CJA, reading several books each week. Many thanks to the librarians who so graciously facilitated her reading habits. More than anything, Zelda loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all of them. She also leaves many beloved extended family members and friends, for whom she leaves a legacy of cherished memories. Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful people at CLSC Metro for their amazing care and attention. The nurses and aids became her friends, especially Elisa DiFruscia and Nancy Rodrigues. We will always be grateful for their thoughtfulness and love.
