It is with great sadness that Bernard’s family announces his sudden and peaceful passing on Monday, January 26, 2015. Loving and devoted husband and soulmate of Bernice Berg for fifty-nine years. Devoted and respected father and father-in-law of Brahm, Derrick and Luana (Fruchter) and the late Leslie (Fish), Sheryl and Bryan (Altshuller), and Bruce. Adored and cherished Zaidie of Jamie and Jason (Leb), Jared and Lisa (Vesely); Aaron and Erica (Green), Jonathan, and Michael; Ryan Blumenthal, Ariel, and Leigh Gantman; Shaun and Daniel Altshuller. Proud Big Zaidie of Jordan and Justin. Son of the late Jack and the late Ida Blumenthal. Son-in-law of the late Sam and the late Anne Berg. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Irving and Tya, David and Anett, and brother-in-law of Ralph and Avra Berg, Shelley and Sandi Berg, and Rhona Bloom. Peacefully, at home, on Monday, February 16, 2015, in his 103rd year. Husband of the late Frances Long. Beloved father and father-in-law of Paula and David Schneider, Susan Kahlenberg. Cherished Grandpa of Jonathan and Michelle Lerner, Nadine Lerner; Joy Kahlenberg. Proud great-grandfather of Matthew, Josh and Olivia Lerner; Tess Lerner-Brunel. Predeceased by his siblings and their spouses, Harry and Anne, Norman and Ruth, Bill and Sophie Edelberg, Fagie Clapoff, Ben and Zelda Edelberg; and by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rose and Ben Nadler, Blema (Susie) and Sam Gazin. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Irving was one of the last living “big four” football players, having played for the Montreal Wheelers and Indians, the predecessors of the Montreal Alouettes.
