Obituary GARTENBERG, Simon. Peacefully, on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at the Jewish General Hospital. Beloved husband of Bryna (Burman). Loving father and father-in-law of Miriam Gartenberg, and Debbie and Alain Sabbah. Adoring grandfather (Opa) of Alexander Maxwell Sabbah. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Sheppard, Dr. Steg and the wonderful staff of the Jewish General Hospital Emergency Department for their care and kindness. Obituary BERMAN, Ben. After a long illness, on Thursday, March 26th, 2009. Beloved husband of Ruth Rusk for sixty-five years. Loving father and father-in-law of Terry and Nancy of Leawood, Kansas, and Steven of Chicago. Treasured Zaida of John and Tiffany, Julia, Laura, Robin, and Karen. Proud great grandfather of Dominic and Jamie. Predeceased by his sisters, Rae Glasberg and Bessie Silverman. Brother-in-law of Miriam and Ed Berger, Elsa and the late Jack Tooberman, the late Evelyn and the late Joe Wasserman. Ben will be fondly remembered by Rita Shapiro; his nieces and nephew, Beverly Schneider, Elaine Sturm, Irwin Glasberg, and their families; and by his many dear friends. Special thanks to Catherine Lloyd of CLSC René-Cassain for her devotion, and to the staff of the 3rd Floor at the Hospital of Hope for their exceptional care and compassion. Beloved father and father-in-law of Dr. Dan and Dana of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Dr. Leslie and Stacy of Chicago, Illinois. Cherished grandfather of Arielle, Elyce and Andrea; Adam and Erin. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Denise and the late Jacques Piha, Lilliane and the late Victor Cohen, the late Raymond and the late Eira Heffez; and brother-in-law of Ezra (Éric) and Edna Anzarut, Selim (Tony) Anzarut, the late Claudine and the late Alvin Shiller. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews, family, friends, and numerous patients. Obituary Peacefully, in his ninety-second year, after a lengthy illness borne with courage and dignity, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, July 22, 2010. Most beloved husband and best friend of Rose Silverman for sixty-one years. Devoted and loving father and father-in-law of Stephen Yaffe and France Ellyson, Shelley Yaffe and Morrie London. Cherished “Papa” of Jessica Yaffe and Ronald Balinsky, Zach Yaffe and Sam Yaffe; Matthew Maislin and Nadine Emond, Alexandra Maislin. Loving “Great-Papa” of Caleb and Eve Balinsky; Maya and Noah Maislin. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Claire and the late Jack Fogel, and brother-in-law of Freda and Mark Gottlieb. Predeceased by his other siblings and their spouses, Harry and Lottie Yaffe, Rae and Harry Atkin, Edward and Sonia Yaffe. He will be fondly remembered by Ginny Yaffe and by his nieces, nephews, family and friends. Special thanks to Jasmine, Nona, Lannie and Sarah for their care and devotion.
Eli was a member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation, a Governor of the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, the YM-YWHA Foundation, and had served on the boards of the Hebrew Free Loan Association and the Caldwell Residences. A dynamic entrepreneur who had the foresight to recognize opportunities arising from new technology and societal trends, he had the perseverance to build them into a number of successful businesses. He remained actively engaged in business activities past his ninetieth birthday.

Devoted grandson of Nanny Ruth and Poppa Leslie Liverman, the late Myer ‘Babe’ Besner and the late Eva ‘Bobbee’ Besner. Loving nephew of Alan and Hélène Liverman, Eric and Marie Liverman, Wendee Besner. Dear cousin of Todd Liverman, Cari and Marc Lamoureux, Amy and Alex Desrosiers; Andrea Liverman and Victoria Liverman; Charles-Patrick Bean and Gabrielle Bean.
