SACHS, Pauline (nee Granich). Peacefully, on Thursday, May 24, 2012, in her ninety-seventh year. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Morton and Lynda, Steve and Joanne Sachs. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Isaiah Granich, Toby and the late Morris Granich, the late Regina and the late Dave Halpert, the late Louis and the late Joyce Granich. Special thanks to Ines for her care, kindness and devotion. Pauline will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Friday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m. Burial at the Memorial Park Cemetery, de la Savane. GOLDSMITH, Irving. Sadly, on Friday, May 25, 2012, in his ninety-eighth year. Beloved husband of Ethel Goldstein for seventy-two years. Devoted father and father-in-law of Richard and Gail, David and Eileen, Arthur and Jan. Cherished Grandpa of Jodi Goldsmith and Dr. Stephen Gelber, Aaron Goldsmith, Thomas Goldsmith, and Ilana Goldsmith. Proud great-grandfather of Evan, and Brandon. Predeceased by his siblings and their spouses David, Ben, Mac and Bess, Anne and Saul, Sam and Lil, Jack and Gert, Sid and Ruby, Ida, and Manny. Irving will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and family. Special thanks to the staff at the King David and Centre Henri Bradet Residences for their compassionate care. Daughter of the late Delene and the late Solomon Schleifer. Beloved wife of Freddie for fifty-five years. Adored mother of her loving children Sheldon and Joyce, Ilene, and Jaclyn. Proud grandmother of her treasured Julia Amanda. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Mark and Sheila Schleifer, and sister-in-law of Shirlee Aronson and Harvey Dolman. She will be missed by her many cousins, nieces and nephews in Montreal, Toronto and Brazil, as well as her many friends and all who knew her. Adored “Annie” of Ayase Kay, Philana Dollin and Melinda Lively, Sandra Dollin and Gregory Bulte, Charna Aronoff-Zucker and Buddy Rappaport, Alissa, and Alex Aronoff. Proud great-grandmother of Neta. Predeceased by his siblings and their spouses, Norman and Freda Hoffer, Esther and Sam Narvey, and by his sister-in-law, Evelyn Selly. Wonderful father and father-in-law of Frumi Rachel Barr, Manny Borod and Diana Henry. He adored his grandchildren Jeremy and Julie Tenser; Andrea and Ari Borod; Danielle and Cory Azzalino. He loved his sister Rivka Selchen, cousins Belva and Michael Thomas, sister-in-law Meta Surchin and his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Aaron, sisters Sarah, Malka, Tova, Aliza and his brother-in-law Dr. Hy Surchin. Sam was our hero. He was an original member of the First Special Service Force (the Devil's Brigade) and recipient of the U.S. combat infantry badge, the U.S. Bronze Star Medal and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for his service in Europe during World War II. He will be fondly remembered by all those whose lives he touched. Special thanks to the staff at Chateau Westmount for their exceptional care, and to Veteran Affairs Canada.
