SAMUELS, Sylvia (nee Rabinovitch). In Toronto, on Sunday, July 8, 2012, after a valiant struggle to overcome the effects of a devastating stroke. Predeceased by her husband, Norman Samuels (Nov. 2008). Loving mother and mother-in-law of Ian and Linda, Stephen and Ricki, and Neil. Much loved grandmother of Tammy and Will Christopherson, Corey Samuels and James Brown; Laurie and Dale Spencer, Rob and Naomi Samuels, Melissa and Jason Greenland; Stella Samuels, Terri and Mike Casey. Great-grandmother of Torin, Juliana, Kale, Hudson, Ava and Jaxon. Sister and sister-in-law of Sarah and the late Irving Rabinovitch, the late Eva and the late Bill Senman, and sister-in-law of Elsie and the late Mac Polonsky, and the late Lillian Palley. She will be sadly missed by all. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Wednesday, July 11 at 1:00 p.m. Burial at the Memorial Park Cemetery, de la Savane.

Special uncle of Marvin and Randa Wexler, Gerald and Norma Wexler, Beverly Wexler and Ted Gibson, Maryam Wexler, the late Elizabeth Wexler; Alan and Varda Kline, Cheryl and Richard Kizell, Alissa and Marty Charach. Arthur Friedman

FRIEDMAN, Arthur. On Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at the age of eighty-three. Dear husband of Joan Heron. Beloved son of the late Alexander Friedman and the late Sadie Rothschild. Survived by his sister-in-law, Gertrude Friedman, and sister and brother-in-law Mary Heron Carter and Christopher Carter, and predeceased by his brother Herbert. Loving uncle of Randy Friedman Morrow (Stuart), Andrea Friedman (David Smith), and Mark Friedman; Chris Carter (Rebecca Telfer), Tim Carter (Denise Lau), and Jeremy Carter (Rebecca). Cherished great-uncle of Alexandra, and Evan Morrow; Nicholas Friedman-Smith; Georgia, and Samuel Carter; Nolan, Mayanna, and Hilary Carter. He will be greatly missed by family members in the U.S.A., and by friends and colleagues in Montreal, Georgeville, and abroad. A quiet, gentle man, he will be remembered for his integrity, his deep interest in art and music, and his love of nature. Early retirement in 1985 provided the opportunity to pursue a passion for photography that he first developed as a teenager. An active member of the Montreal Camera Club for many years, he was the recipient of numerous prizes, exhibiting his work locally and in International Salons. For twenty-five years he proudly participated in the annual Arts Festival in Georgeville. He also derived much satisfaction and enjoyment from courses at McGill Learning in Retirement, in particular those focusing on the history of Montreal. The family would like to express its deep appreciation to Dr. Peter Lipes, Doctors Unger and Simmons, and the 6th floor West medical personnel of the Jewish General Hospital for their compassion and care during Arthur's final days. Very special thanks to the team of wonderful caregivers who looked after him at home: Noli, Voltaire, Cecile, Mariel, Teresa, and Effie, and to Niloofar Mombaini and the skilled medical staff at Le Graham Retirement Residence for their support and kindness. GRAIF, Bella (nee Kligman). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bella Graif, after a courageous battle, on Thursday, July 5, 2012. Beloved mother of Marlene and Elissa Graif. Daughter of the late Myer and the late Ethel Kligman. Predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Rose and Abe Kutzin, Lily and Leo Lutsky, Esther and Jerry Stepman.
