Linda Jane Laing
LAING, Linda Jane (née Brotman). On Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Our beautiful Linda (Ketzie) was finally released from her suffering. With her typical private resolve, she faced her death fearlessly, patiently, and without anger or complaints. During our last weeks with her, we reminisced, we talked, we cried, we sang. Hers was a life that came full circle. Linda’s delicate exterior belied a calm determination to quietly pursue her considerable passions: her sumptuous hand-knit sweaters and her truly extraordinary special-occasion cakes; two successful businesses that allowed her to express her flair for design and colour, both of which were also reflected in her unique personal style. No one could pull off vintage like Linda. The daughter of the late Bess and the late Maurice Brotman, Linda is mourned by Lawrence, her adoring husband of forty-seven years, and by her loving and cherished children, Jennifer and Tom (Schopflocher) of New York, and Jason of Jerusalem. Linda adored her two precious grandsons, Jesse and Casey. She will be greatly missed by her sister, Bonnie (the late Mel Shore), and by Bonnie’s partner, Phil Lander. Her absence will be deeply felt by her belle-soeur extraordinaire, Judi Laing of Los Angeles, by her sister-in-law Margot Laing, by Kenny Shtull and Joy Moos, and by her loving nephews, Josh and Paul Shore, Benjamin and Jacob McKean. Our family would like to express our thanks to Dr. Joseph Portnoy for his guidance, and to Drs. Stanley Heisler, Simon Bergman, Petr Kavan, Michael Palumbo, and David Melnychuk, Nicole Baird, Charles Hackett and Michael Dworkind for their devoted care, to Louise Champagne and Brigitte Melhem of the Segal Cancer Centre for their compassion, and to the wonderful staff of the Palliative Care Unit. As well, we wish to thank Dr. Robert Mayer of the Dana Farber Institute for his consistent accessibility and advice. We are so grateful to all the dear friends who have sent their prayers through visits and letters.
