Ruth Ohana

OHANA, Ruth (nee Elbaz). Surrounded by her family, on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Loving daughter of Robert and the late Esther. Beloved wife of Aimé. Cherished mother of Kelly, Jonathan, and Annie. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Eliane and Robert Komlos, Corine and Miles Leutner, and sister-in-law of Dov and Yaël. Special daughter-in-law of Annie and the late Rabbi Moshe Ohana. She will be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, family, friends, and all who knew her. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Jewish General Hospital. Harry Smith

August 24, 1921 – May 4, 2013. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harry Smith on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the age ninety-one. Beloved husband of the late Beatrice Greenfield. Loving father and father-in-law of Jeffrey and Annette Smith. Cherished grandfather of Bradley. Son of the late Ida and the late Moe Smith. Dearly beloved brother and brother-in-law of Sydney and Isabel, Arnold and Frances, David and Thelma, and Claire and the late Sam Smith, and brother-in-law of Issie and the late Faye Greenfield, Solly Greenfield, Shirley Greenfield, Jerry and the late Sylvia Bender. Harry will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his beloved cat, Finnigan-Ziggy. Special thanks to Bettina for being there for Harry. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the 15th floor at the Montreal General Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion. Harry was a Canadian WWII veteran, having served for five years in England in the RCAF. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Monday, May 6 at 1 p.m. Burial at the Young Israel of Chomedey Congregation Section, Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Duvernay. Jack Philip Kurtz

KURTZ, Jack Philip. On Wednesday, May 1, 2013. Husband of the late Marcelle Thérèse Ruth Gagnon. Beloved father of Terry, Karen and David, and the late Kim Harry. Adored Grandfather of eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Son of the late Harry Kurtz and late Dorothy Hall. Graveside service on Tuesday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m. at the Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom Congregation Section, Mount-Royal Cemetery. Nathan (Nat) Aronoff

After a valiant struggle, on Saturday, May 4, 2013, in his ninetieth year. Beloved and devoted husband of Sonia Kravitz. Loving father and father in law of Marian (Malca) and Jeffrey (Schrier), David and Lesley (Atkinson). Proud and caring grandfather of Allyson and Philip. Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Leo and the late Evelyn, Dr. Alex and Tess, the late Anne and Edward Feigin , and the late Sam Kravitz. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Patricia Barsky

BARSKY, Patricia (nee Bulow). 1935 – 2013. It is with deep sadness that we announce Patricia’s passing on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the West Island Palliative Care. Cherished wife to Sydney Barsky for 56 years. Loving mother and mother-in-law to David, Robert (Marsha), Deborah (Denis Dainat), and Jennifer (Pedro Arizti). Proud grandmother to Tristan, Benjamin, Sydney Rose, Celeste, Tomas, Amelia and Cecilia. Devoted aunt to Darcy and Teresa Parkman, and their children, Austin and Jordyn. She is predeceased by her parents, De Forest and Blanche Bulow, and by her sister Linda Parkman. Patricia was born in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, but was a woman of the world. She loved to travel, was tremendously creative and held a special connection to nature. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by her family, her friends and all those who came to know her. Loving daughter of Edith and the late Jack Feldman. Very proud Bubby of Sophie, and Henry Forman; Gregory, and Alexandra Libman; Harrison, Joseph, and Leah Shporer. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Vicki and Howie Steinberg, Susan Feldman, Joel Feldman, and Marian Hoppenheim. Lifelong friend of Trudy and Rudy Rutenberg. She will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Nathan (Nat) Mager

May 16, 1918 – May 5, 2013. After a most courageous battle to remain with his beloved family, Nat Mager passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013, one week away from his ninety-fifth birthday, enveloped by the love and devotion of his wife of seventy years, Ruth. He leaves to mourn his children and their spouses, Rosanne and Issie Katz, Stan and Elaine Mager. A kind and generous mentor to his adoring grandchildren, Patrice and Dr. Andrew Diamond, Scott and Anna Katz, Stuart and P.J. Mager, Susan and Dr. Steven Wolchok. Blessed with treasured great-grandchildren, Tyler Diamond, Skye Katz, Zane and Riva Wolchok, and Jeremy Mager. Survived by his baby sisters, Lillian Gorelik and Beatrice Raider, and his sister-in-law, Helen Mager. Predeceased by his dear brothers, Sam (the late Sadie), David (the late Lily), and Dan. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Gina Ramos for the kind care Nat received from her these past three years. DALFEN, Netty (née Tennenhaus). Peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, May 6, 2013 in her ninety-first year. Wife of the late Abraham David (Abe) Dalfen. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Mendy and Ruth Dalfen, Roslyn and David Guttman. Cherished Bubby of Orlee Guttman, Rabbi Amir and Gita Guttman. Loving “Bubby Netty” of Eliezer, Rivka, Rachel, Yaffa, Shifra Devora, and Sara. Sister of the late David Tennenhaus, the late Moshe Arazi, and the late Shirley Kaspi. Sadly mourned by her nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Heartfelt thanks to Emelie for her outstanding care, love and companionship. Special thanks to Raul, Belcy, Susie, and Criselda for their compassion and devotion. GUSS, Phyllis Rochelle. On Thursday, May 2, 2013. Beloved daughter of the late Jack and the late Jean Guss. Phyllis is survived by her sister, Monica. Formerly of Saint John, New Brunswick, Phyllis was a writer of a profound body of work. She will be sadly missed by her Guss, Takiff, Attis and other cousins, as well as by her dear friends. Graveside service on Tuesday, May 7 at 10:45 at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Duvernay. Shiva private from 7:00 p.m., ending Friday afternoon.
