BERNSTEIN, Frances (née Beckelman). Peacefully in her ninety-fourth year on Monday, August 12, 2013. Wife of the late Jack Bernstein. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Bunny and the late Irving Haimovitz, Leona (Lee) and Stephen Shulman, Elaine and Stanley Rosenberg. Cherished “Bubbie Faigie” of Eileen and Arnie Gluz, Randi Haimovitz; Shawn and Kathy Shulman, Loren and Rochelle Shulman; Justin Rosenberg; Heather and David Perl, and Matthew Rosenberg. Proud great-grandmother of Brandon and Rebecca Jordan Shulman; Ilana and Adam Jeremy (A.J.) Gluz, and Maya Perl. Sister of the late Ida Mandelcorn, the late Ettie Granofsky, the late Rae Kravitz, and the late Molly Wowa. Dear sister-in-law of Nat and Norman Bernstein. She will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, family and friends. Special thanks to the staff of the Steger Residence and to the staff of the Emergency Department at the Jewish General Hospital for their care and compassion. WISE, Theodore (Ted). After an interesting and wonderful life, on Thursday, August 8, 2013. Beloved husband of Arlene (née Miller). Loving father and father-in-law of Jeff and Cheri (née Bell). Devoted grandfather of Gregory and Lucas Wise. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Clare and the late Chuck Waldman, Len and Goldie Wise, and the late Doris Wise. He will be lovingly remembered by his family, friends and colleagues. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Barry and Nora Greenberg, and sister-in-law of David and Paule Lieberman, Ralph and the late Paddy Lieberman, Michael Lieberman, Ted and the late Toby Janus, and the late Louis Lieberman. Predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Eddy and Clara Dushkin, and by her other siblings, who perished in the Holocaust. Zev Asher

ASHER, Zev Moses. After an epic fight with illness following a blood stem cell transplant, on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the age of fifty. Zev was one of a kind. He was a respected filmmaker, musician and writer who collaborated on art projects all over the world. Zev had a big heart, a great sense of humour, and courage beyond words. He will always be loved and fondly remembered by his parents Stanley and Sharon (née Segall); his sisters Beth (Fabio Pinzari), and Judith (George Ulrich); and by his partner Joanne Shiller. Zev was the much beloved uncle of Joshua Ulrich, Sophia Pinzari, and Samuel Ulrich; cherished nephew of Norman Asher, Irene Asher; and cousin of Alan (Laura) and family, Brian (Echo), and Karen (Kevin) Asher. He will be remembered with love by many family members, friends and collaborators around the world. We wish to express our profound gratitude to the Stem Cell Transplant team of doctors, nurses, professionals, and staff of 5 CD at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital. We will always remember their professionalism and humanity. Father and father-in-law of Sarah and Frank Rosen, Melanie and Marc D'Antoni, and Richard. Soul mate of Golda Fassi and stepfather to her children, Charlotte and Emma. He also leaves in mourning his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Ed Lunk, and their children, Brandon and Daniel. Grandfather of Jacob D'Antoni. Cherished “Papa” of Charlotte Jones; Jason and Robert Latsky; Jonah, Evan, Harley, and Shane Latsky. Brother of the late Lois Cardon and the late Dorothy Gerson. Dear brother-in-law of Norman Cardon, Saul Gerson, Leonard and Gail Diamond, Lois and Bernard Shapiro, Frances and Stan Schill.
