KNELSEN - Mr. Henry, aged 95 years, passed away on February 16, 2005. He was born in Russia on July 12, 1909. He had his schooling there as well. His family came to Kelstern, SK in 1925 because his dad’s brother, Henry Knelsen, was farming there. They started to farm in the Kelstern area as well where Henry worked for farmers in the district. In 1933 he started to farm and in 1934 he married Clara Neufeld. A daughter, Mabel, was born in 1935. Henry and Clara became members of the Elim Brethren Church of Kelstern. In 1942 their son, Melvin, was born. In 1950 the father and mother Neufeld moved to B.C.. He bought the farm until 1971, then the son, Melvin and his wife, Judy, bought the farm. He then retired to Hodgeville for a few years, until they had to get to a place that had a Doctor, so they moved to the Golden West Manor in Swift Current. In a few years he lost both his legs. He loved the Manor because it had groups come in with programs, also he could go and visit with the men, and there was always something going on. Henry was a loving person to his wife, Clara, his son, Melvin and his wife, Judy, his eight grandchildren: Bradley, Nola, Glenda, Corinne, Ryan, Nolan, Lee and Megan, and his five great-grandchildren: Myra, Courtney, Heather, Read and Jaylen, and they will all miss him. His close friend, Walter Bush, took him out for shopping and many other things and we want to thank you. The funeral service was held on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Bridgeway Community Church with Pastor Cliff Janzen officiating. Agnes Krahn (nee Pauls) passed away peacefully on February 9, 2005 at the Swift Current Union Hospital. Agnes was born January 30, 1912 in Reinfeld Yazykova, South Russia. Due to the Russian revolution and great famine, the Pauls' family came to Canada in 1923 and settled near Herbert, Saskatchewan. In 1930, Agnes married Jacob Krahn (born in Nickolaidpol Borissovo, South Russia) and together they farmed in the Herbert area. Agnes is predeceased by her beloved husband Jacob Krahn (1901-1967) and son-in-law Victor Dombrowsky (1929-2003), as well as several brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. She is survived by children Lory (Victor), Ervin (Gloria), Jake (Linda), Ken (Alice) and Lawrence (Lois), 25 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her sister and life long friend Susie Regier. Agnes's early years were filled with her new country and her new family. While she developed a love of the Herbert area, and made many friends, she always maintained contact with her family settled elsewhere in Canada, and those in Germany. In her final years, Agnes enjoyed family visits, her friends and church, revisiting her heritage, handicrafts, watching curling and her Toronto Blue Jays. Agnes strong faith and love of family kept her strong through the many miles she travelled and the many years she lived. Although she will be deeply missed by all her family and friends, Agnes' faith will lead her home to those who await at her final resting place. Services will be he held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 12, 2005 at Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current with interment to follow at the Herbert Cemetery. CROZIER - Mrs. Marjorie Luella, aged 81 years of Success, passed away on June 1, 2005 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. Marjorie was born February 28, 1924 to Wilfrid and Ella Jones. She grew up in the big house on the hill in the Hagaville district near Success. She attended school at Hagaville, Orillia, and Success. Marjorie then attended Normal School in Moose Jaw and went out to teach at Log Valley and Fairhills schools. Marjorie married Orville Crozier on June 23, 1945. She helped Orville with the farm although she was not an outside girl and would rather be in the house sewing, knitting, quilting, and baking. Marjorie knit her family Mary Maxim sweaters, sewed every family child a Christmas stocking, cross stitched pictures and sewed her daughter a wedding dress. All our family babies and many community babies snuggles under one of her quilts. Her stitches were tiny and perfect. She was a member of Success Birthday club and the Success Slimmettes. In 1980 for Celebrate Saskatchewan she addressed and received hundreds of invitations and replies. Marjorie was an avid reader and for years wrote a report on every book she read. She kept a diary starting in her teenage years and ended many arguments, how much rain, who came to visit and how old the neighbors were. Marjorie was an armchair Bronco fan keeping track of all the stats and scores. If anyone needed and ad on the Trading Post she would dial patiently until she got through. One of the callers said to her, "You can't ask that for a cow!" but she did and got the price. Marjorie's family was very special to her. As grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along she got busy sewing bibs and quilts. Even the newest baby got a fleece blanket last December. Her brothers and their families always had a special place in her heart. Each brother has a picture or a quilt that Marjorie made. Many phone calls, cards, pictures and letters traveled between here and British Columbia. Marjorie and a pen pal corresponded for over forty years. Marjorie was a little person with a bog heart. As her health failed she stayed close to home and put aside her crafting. With the help of family and homecare she was able to stay in her own home until April. Her last days were spent with family and friends around her and she left this life with peace and dignity. Marjorie is survived by her husband, Orville; daughter, Donna (Wilbert); son, Tom (Shelly); grandchildren: Debbi (Sean), Travis (and (Dawnwyn), and Cassandra and Darby; great-grandchildren: Danielle and Matthew, and Anthony and Ashley; brothers: Rosser (Margaret), Harvey (Esther), Ray and (Pat); sister-in-law, Peg Crozier; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred, and Ella Jones; parents-in-law, Tom and Lavina Crozier; daughter, Sheryl, in infancy; brother, Leonard; brother-in-law, Emerson; sister-in-law, Ethel (Allison); niece, Thelma; and nephew, Darren. The funeral service was held at Grace United Church in Swift Current on June 6, 2005 with Doris Watt officiating. The pallbearers were: Marvin Auseth, Oran Anderson, Brian Cummings, Rod Nelson, Randy Robertson, and Darrell Wotherspoon. The ushers were, Larry Osborne, and Gerald Schultz. Memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Diabetes Foundation or to the Success Community Hall. The interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. DAUK - Mr. Anthony (Tony) John, aged 93 years, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2005 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, in Swift Current, with members of his beloved family at his bedside. Tony was born on August 22, 1911 in Anaheim, SK where he also received his education. On a wintry day, January 22, 1935, Tony married the love of his life, Anna. During their 66 year marriage, they raised eleven children: Erwin, Marlene, Helen (who passed away at 3 years of age), Mary, Ann, Richard, Benno, Rudy, Rosalyn, Johnny, and Patrick. Tony farmed in Anaheim until 1953. His greatest pleasure during his farming years, were his horses. He always claimed he had the best horses in Anaheim. Tony moved his family to Benito, Manitoba where he continued farming until 1968. At that time he moved to Winnipeg to work at St. Mary’s Cathedral, leaving the farm to the boys of the family. Retirement and part-time work were not in the cards, so he moved to Swift Current where, with his oldest son, Erwin, started “Dauk’s Auto Cleaning.” After the business got established, Tony finally retired with his wife to the Golden West Manor. He enjoyed many years of a worry free life until his beloved wife passed away in 2001. Throughout his life Tony enjoyed curling, playing cards and visiting, and playing baseball with his children. Tony was predeceased by his wife, Anna, of 66 years; infant daughter, Helen; daughter-in-law, Louise Dauk; and son-in-law, Dale Evjen. He leaves to mourn his loss, his six sons: Erwin, Richard (Patricia), Ben (Marion), Rudy (Audrey), John (Sharon), and Patrick (Judie); four daughters: Marlene (Robert) MacKalski, Mary Evjen, Ann (Mervin) Caven, and Rosalyn (Victor) Cuthbert; 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other relatives and dear friends. A Prayer Service was held on June 6, 2005 at Parkside Memorial Funeral Chapel with Monsignor Lionel Mondor officiating and Sister Lynn performing the music. The Funeral Service was held on June 7, 2005 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church with Father Stephen Bill officiating. The Readers were: Patricia Cuthbert, Barbara Ann MacKalski, and Jason Caven. The pallbearers were his sons: Erwin Dauk, Rudy Dauk, Richard Dauk, John Dauk, Ben Dauk, and Patrick Dauk. The interment was held at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, in Swift Current. ROBINSON - Mrs. Hylda Eunice (Nee Collins), passed away June 14, 2005 in Weyburn at the age of 79 years. Eunice was predeceased by her husband, Garland; her parents and a sister. She is survived by her son, Richard (Helen), of Outlook, SK; daughter, Gaye (Harry Baytalan), of Regina, SK; son, Mark (Debbie), of Weyburn, SK; grandchildren: Wayne, Terry, Colin, Ryan, and Alana; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ethel Calnek and Jean Robinson. Eunice was born on January 6, 1926 in Hartfordshire, England, her father being a coal miner. She often spoke of the strict upbringing she received. At the onset of World War II Eunice was 13 years old. At the age of 14 she left school to work in a dress shop in Birmingham. Many times she told the story of her shop being bombed and how they simply cleaned up and went back to work. On May 17, 1944 Eunice met Garland Robinson, a prairie boy serving in the Canadian Force, at a dance in Much Hadam, England. Eunice and Garland were married on July 26, 1945 at the end of World War II, and in the summer of 1946 they moved to the farm at Cadillac. This was a major adjustment for a young English woman who had to adapt to a simple existence with few of the amenities to which she was accustomed. Over the next decade Garland and Eunice lived in Meyronne, Thunder Creek, and Melaval before settling in Webb. During their time in Webb, Eunice enjoyed going to dances, playing cards and getting together with friends. The door was always open to everyone, with a good meal only a few potatoes away. Eunice loved to bake and was always willing to try a new dessert recipe. In their retirement years Garland and Eunice loved to travel and take in gambling excursions. They especially enjoyed their trip to Alaska. They enjoyed camping trips in the summer and going to monthly suppers out with friends to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. The funeral service was held on Friday, June 17, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Church with Reverend John Barker officiating. The organist was Marilyn King and the ushers were, Carson Robinson and Dennis Robinson. The Honorary pallbearers were all those in attendance. The interment was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. FROESE - Mrs. Viola Anna, of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, passed away on June 18, 2005 at the age of 84 years at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current. She was born in Wymark, Saskatchewan on October 18, 1920. She married Cornelius Froese on June 19, 1949 and began her life as a homemaker and mother in the Swift Current area. She was predeceased by her husband, Cornelius; daughter, Roxanne; her parents, George and Helen Peters; sister, Helen; and two brothers, Lewis and Gilbert. She is survived by her daughters: Audri (Graham) Edmondson, of Woodland, California, Victoria (Brian) Murray, of Regina, Glory Froese, of Yellowknife, N.W.T., Cornelia (David) Jess, of Calgary, AB, and Mona Froese; grandchildren: Blaine (Tanya) Murray, Jess Edmondson, Vanessa (Joe) Telus, Valeasha (Blaine) Franklyn, Russ Edmondson, Marc Dorian, and Aaron Jess; great-grandchildren: Jaden, Quincy and Jacob Telus, Torrin, and Kai Murray, Chinarra and Skye Bishop, and Kianna Franklyn. She is also survived by her sisters: Edna (Leonard) Friesen, Marion (Ed) Regier, and Leona Peters; brother, Orville (Carol) Peters; and sister-in-law, Betty Peters. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Trailview Alliance Church with Doctor John Healy officiating. The pallbearers were her grandsons. SCHMIDT - Mr. Michael David, aged 21 years of Herbert, Saskatchewan, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2005. Mike was born on March 22, 1984 in Regina, SK. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Calahoo, Alberta to begin a church-planting ministry. When Mike was three, the Schmidt’s moved to Daysland, Alberta. It was in Daysland that Mike began a school career of excellence that would culminate in Herbert. Mike finished his high school years at the top of his class. We were proud of him when he stood at his high school graduation and delivered the valedictorian address. We were even prouder when he won a scholarship to the University of Regina. Although Mike always trusted in God, the time came when he needed assurance of that relationship. On March 15, 1998 after Sunday School, he knelt with his Mom and asked Jesus Christ to be His Saviour. His Father had the privilege of baptizing him on September 13 of that same year. Those who knew and loved Mike always enjoyed his theatrical talents and his sense of humor. Mike was involved in several plays in school and delighted in performing scenes from some of his favorite movies. Those who saw them never forgot his portrayals of scenes from The Princess Bride. Westbank Bible Camp was a special place for Mike; he was there as a camper and later as a counselor. Had things worked out the way he hoped, his first priority for this summer was to work there. Unfortunately, his illness had progressed to the point where that was not possible. Mike became horribly depressed in January of 2004, and it was then that his health struggles began. He was later diagnosed as having Bi-Polar disorder. After about a year and a half of horrible fluctuations between highs and lows that caused him and his family great sorrow, the disease claimed his life. The funeral service was held on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Bridgeway Community Church in Swift Current with Pastor Ken Epp officiating. The pianist was Diana Martens and the ushers were: Ian George, Ernest Block, Garth Dueck, and Mr. Martens. A tribute was written by Mike's brother and two sisters. The pallbearers were: his brother, Cory Schmidt, his brother-in-law, Tevis Schultz, his cousins: Trent Michaud, Mark Michaud, Jeff Michaud and Steven Brokop. The interment was held at the Main Centre Cemetery in Main Centre, SK at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Westbank Bible Camp, at Box 1841, Swift Current, SK, S9H 4M6. Mike is survived by his parents, Ed & Marie Schmidt; oldest sister, Jennifer; brother, Cory (Lisa) Schmidt; and sister, Brenda (Tevis) Schultz; Great-Grandma Justina Siemens; Grandma Theresa Michaud; Grandpa George & Grandma Elizabeth Schmidt; numerous aunts & uncles, cousins and friends. Mike was predeceased by his Grandpa Rolland Michaud. He is dearly beloved, lovingly remembered and terribly missed.
WAGNER - Mrs. Arlene Carolyn, aged 58 years of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, passed away on July 18, 2005 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current. Arlene is survived by her husband, Alvin; three sons: Fred (Denise), Donnie (Tracy), and Murray (Leanne), all of Swift Current; three stepsons: Rory (Fern), of Olds, AB, Terry, of North Battleford, and Gerald (Abi), of England; several grandchildren: William Chalk (special friend, Courtney), Hayley and Keely Chalk, Dale Wagner, and Dalton Chalk. Arlene was predeceased by her mother and father, Linda and Fred Gering; and her brothers, Murray and Reg Gering. The funeral service was held on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Amber Hoffman officiating. The organist was Arlie Neufeld and the pallbearers were: Jim Parsons, Jeff Wall, Ray Bourlon, James Wiebe, Dave Reddekopp, and Claude Auger. THIESSEN - Mrs. Maria (Mary), aged 105 years, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2005 at the Herbert Nursing Home in Herbert, Saskatchewan. Mary was born on October 23, 1899 to her parents, Henry and Maria (nee Schultz) Andres in the village of Rosenback, Furstenland, South Russia. In 1901 she immigrated with her parents to Canada. They first settled in Winkler, Manitoba and later lived at Gretna and also Altona, Manitoba. During this time when she became of school age she managed to attend some classes of German school for a few years. In 1909 the family moved to Herbert, Saskatchewan where they eventually settled on a farm 11 miles southeast of Herbert in the Wiebe School District. It was there that they attended the Greenfarm Church. There was no school in the district at that time so she was not able to get any more schooling. When she was old enough she sometimes worked for other people in the area. In 1917 Mary accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was baptized later that year and joined the Greenfarm MB Church. Also in 1917 her mother passed away and she and her sister, Elizabeth, were left with the burden of helping to care for their younger siblings until their father remarried. On March 28, 1920 she married Abram Thiessen. They settled on a farm 9 miles north of Herbert until 1924 when they moved to a farm 15 miles southeast of Herbert, in the Neidpath area. They lived at this location until 1962 when they purchased a house in Herbert and moved there. They lived in their house until failing health persuaded them to move into the Herbert Heritage Manor. Shortly after Abram’s death in 1999 she moved to the Herbert Nursing Home where she remained until her death. She is survived by six children: Leona (Biech) Mayer, of Regina, SK, Peter (Lillian) Thiessen, of Herbert, SK, Leonard (Anita) Thiessen, of Swift Current, SK, Tina Thiessen, of Westbank, B.C., Norman (Ileine) Thiessen, of Glenbuch, SK, and Eleanor (Norman) Goertzen, of Kyle, SK; 24 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Jake (Helen) Andres, of Clovis, California; her sister, Sarah Williams, of Phoenix, Arizona; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Henry and Kate Thiessen, of Langley, B.C.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Maria Andres; three half sisters; two sisters; three brothers; her husband, Abram; son, Henry; two sons-in-law, Ed Biech and Wally Thiessen; daughter-in-law, Lydia; and granddaughter-in-law, Judy Thiessen. The funeral service was held on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Herbert M.B. Church with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. The pianist was Verna Andres and special music was provided by the Herbert M.B. Quartet. The ushers were, Doug Selders and Murray Martens. A tribute was given by her grandson, Walter Biech. The pallbearers were grandsons: Ron Thiessen, Clifford Thiessen, Doug Goertzen, Perry Thiessen, Delbert Biech, and Wayne Thiessen. GRAY - Mrs. Dorothy, age 82, of Swift Current and formerly of the Lacadena area passed away with her family by her side on August 16, 2005 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current. A celebration of Dorothy’s life was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2005 at Grace United Church with Doris Watt officiating. Honorary pallbearers were: Eva Morrow, Ethel McMullen, Chris McDonald, Jean Heuer, and Fran Davis. The pallbearers were: Dana Omland, Bevan Omland, Don Gray, Bob Hope, Hugh Mutlow, and Larry Mutlow. The ushers were, Leonard Goheen and Darryl Gray. The interment was held at the Lacadena Cemetery. Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Ken Gray, in 1993; her beloved son, Ron (age 44) in 1988; her father, William Mutlow, in 1955; her mother, Elizabeth (Hunter), in 1985; her brothers: Roland, John and Sam Mutlow; her sisters: Mary Rickards, Helen Perrin, Margaret Jenson, Ellen Byers and Bertha Kerr; her nephews: Mel Rickards, Terry Jenson and Gary Perrin. Dorothy is mourned by her only daughter, Sandra Omland (Milt Blehm) of Swift Current; six grandchildren: Dana (Barb) Omland, Danny (Pon) Omland, Bevan Omland, Lynae Gray, Robin (Terry) Powers, Erin (Dammon) Goudy, and Jody Harris; eight great-grandchildren: Kelsy, Landon, Kyra, Justin, Nolan, Paige, Hayden, and Ryley; her sister, Audrey (Munro) Hope; sisters-in-law: Toots Mutlow, Hazel Mutlow, and Nel Roer; and her brother-in-law, Carl Jenson. Dorothy was born on October 25, 1922 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan and grew up in White Bear, Saskatchewan. In 1943 she married Ken Gray and they made the Lacadena Community their home until moving to Swift Current. Dorothy’s greatest love was her family and friends and she took great pleasure in hosting them. Dorothy was always very involved in her community. MURPHY – George Edmund (December 10, 1914 – August 7, 2005) formerly of Swift Current and Neville, went to his eternal rest in Herbert Hospital. He was born on the family farm at Beverly, SK the only child of Thomas George and Mina Edith (nee Howden) Murphy. They moved to Neville in 1921. George enlisted with the RCAF in 1941. He was a Navigation Officer and instructor of many young men from various commonwealth countries. George married F. Louise Taylor in 1943. After WWII they bought his Dad’s farm at Neville. George was predeceased by his parents, in 1959 and 1966; his wife, Louise (2001); grandson, Colin Scott Jackle (1996); sisters and brothers-in-law: Muriel and Joseph Morgan, Frederick and Louise Taylor and Blanche Morgan. George is survived by his children: Sheila E.L. Morin of Swift Current, Donald G. (Sheri) Murphy of Dawson Creek, B.C. and Colleen A. Jackle of Calgary, AB; grandchildren: Dean Jackle of Calgary, Derek G. and Janelle L. Murphy of Dawson Creek; brother-in-law, Angus J. Morgan of Calgary and much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dad, a farmer, was very active in his community – Treasurer (with Mum) of St. Paul’s United Church in Neville, Secretary and President of Neville Legion #328 and many other organizations. Dad was devoted to the cooperative movement – Co-op, Credit Union, Wheat Pool and NDP. A very special Honor Guard and Legion Tribute was led by Glen Davis, assisted by members of the Neville Legion #328 and Swift Current Legion. The Last Post was played by Dick Warren. The ushers were, Keith Allan and Stuart Dyrland. Pallbearers were: Dean Jackle, Derek Murphy, Dale Fowke, Greg Taylor, Walter Ivanochko and Rodney Murphy. The interment took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. The family would appreciate memorial donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or a charity of your choice.
