Anna Maria "Marie" Hadland
September 12, 1924 - October 21, 2014
It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of their loving mother Anna Maria “Marie” Hadland, 90 years of Humboldt, on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Humboldt District Hospital. Marie was born in Kinistino, SK to Erick and Annie (nee Haggstrom) Strandquist the seventh child of a family of 18. She obtained her grade eight education at the Haggstrom School. Following her education she worked in the area helping families. As a young lady she boarded the train to Vancouver where she was employed as a waitress for three years. Her Saskatchewan roots were strong and she returned to the Kinistino area. This is where she met the love of her life Arnold Hadland and they were wed in Kinistino on March 15, 1945. This union of marriage created a wonderful family of five children. Marie was a natural homemaker who loved all aspects of motherhood and farm life. Her children especially appreciated her warm hugs, gentle guidance and loving nature; not to mention her homemade buns and bread, lefse, söt soppa, and svenske bro, just to name a few. Carrying on the Hadland/Strandquist’s many traditions was very important to her and she thoroughly enjoyed preparing and sharing them with her family. Marie was also very well known for her gardening skills, always finding a new flower bed or vegetable garden to create. Marie made beautiful dresses for her little girls and shared many knitted and crocheted items with family and friends. In 1970 Arnold passed away suddenly and Marie continued to live on the farm with her sons. In 1974 she was introduced to her Seventh Day Adventist faith that she practiced faithfully to the end. In the mid 80’s Marie moved to Humboldt where she enjoyed being close to her family and being a part of their lives. Here she continued to enjoy sharing her baking and continued with her gardening skills. She also became the local taxi driver willing to take her friends to appointments or for a peaceful country drive. Last Christmas, at the age of 89, she still made her traditional family meal. Marie was very fashionable and always strived to look her very best. Marie’s “young at heart”, loving spirit will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her five children and their families: SHARON Hadland and family, Tracey Moldenhauer (Cory Waldner) and children Dallas and Abigail of Spruce Grove, AB and Alexa (Jesse) Rushmer of Stony Plain, AB; Andrea Briscoe (Mark Karpinka) and son Olin of Edmonton; MARCIA (Brian) Lysitza of Humboldt and family Dani (Mike) Brennan and children Katherine and William of Saskatoon and Tia (Harvey) Nienaber and children Evan and Jordan of Humboldt; ALLAN (Iona) Hadland of Star City and family Jackie (Les) Haroldson and son Leslie of Warman and Kallom (Morgan) Hadland and children Riley and Ashlyn of Kindersley; DAVID (Karen) Hadland of Muenster and his family Angela (Brad) Gampe and children Bradley, Cody, Austin and Josh, Aaron (Michelle) Hadland and children Dylan and Hayley, and Shawna (Cory) Uliski and children Alannah and Sydney all of Cudworth; and Karen’s children Tracy of Humboldt, Chrissy of Yorkton and Jeremy of Warmen and their families; and RORY (Loretta) Hadland of Meacham and family Amy Busby and sons Dylan and Coltyn, Tylea, Arnie, and Hannah Hadland, all of Weldon; three sisters and one brother: Ellen Jones of Surrey, BC, Eileen (Bill) White of Bellevue, AB, Roy Strandquist of Innisfree, AB and Ruth (Al) White of Bellevue, AB; sisters and brothers-in-law Freda (Norval) Hungerford of Eston, Margaret Strandquist of Love, George Nelson of Kinistino, Irene Strandquist and Vivian Strandquist both of Blairmore, AB and by numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her parents Erick and Annie Strandquist; her husband Arnold Hadland; and 13 siblings: Waldemar Strandquist, Verna (Archie) Woode, Linda Swanson, Gladys (Einar) Hagglund, Elsie (Lambert) Holoien, Evelyn (Carl) Brakstad, Elvera Nelson, Elmer Strandquist, Arvid Strandquist, Ferne (Alfred) Carriere and three siblings in infancy; also in-laws: Rolf (Myrtle) Hadland, Irma (Harold) Jackson, Herman (Doreen) Hadland, and Olga (Lorne) Beattie. The Funeral Service for Marie was held on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Hwy 5 East, Humboldt. Officiated by, Byron Aaserude. Interment will follow at a later date at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens beside her husband Arnold. Memorial donations in Marie’s memory may be directed to St. Mary’s Villa Foundation or Humboldt District Hospital Foundation General Equipment Fund.
Cecilia Blanch
December 29, 1915 - October 17, 2014
The Blanch family regretfully announces the death of their mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother Cecilia Blanch (nee Saretsky), 98 years of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt on Friday, October 17, 2014. Cecilia was born in the Burr district to Alex and Anna (nee Gursky) Saretsky on December 29, 1915, a date she shares with her mother Anna and her daughter Karen. She married Leo Blanch on October 25, 1938 and lived in Muenster for a few years, before moving to a farm south west of the town, where she and Leo raised their nine children. She experienced a life of joy and hardship common to that time, household responsibilities, including everything from weekly bread baking, sewing, washing clothes and ironing for hours, seasoning the sausage in fall from the game taken by Leo and certain sons, and making the best of the many scarcities of the early years were her main occupations. In addition to her devotion as a mother, she was also devoted to her little country church, St. Gertrude and the women’s group, which nourished her faith. Retiring to Muenster in 1974, she enjoyed many good years, actively involved in family births, wedding and sporting activities. She would surprise everyone at times by being the last dancer on the floor at family wedding dances, or be in the center of the circle as grandchildren sang and danced around her to the song “Cecilia”. Age and its consequences eventually stole her strength and spirit, and the last few years she looked forward to her death and the promise of her faith. Her life can be properly summarized by the titles of 3 of her favourite songs. It was The Church in the Wildwood that inspired her, Whispering Hope…All Through the Night…taking her to her final place of rest. Cecilia was predeceased by her husband, Leo Blanch (2004); daughters: Joan in infancy (1955) and Bernadette Danchilla (2008); son, Bill (2012); son-in-law, Don Danchilla (2008); parents, Alex and Anna Saretsky; four sisters and four brothers: Madeline, Lenore, Mildred, Agnes, George, Rudy, Emil and Jake. A Prayer Service for Cecilia was held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, Muenster, led by Garry Loehr. The Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, celebrated by Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB. Interment followed at St. Gertrude Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Gertrude Cemetery or St. Mary’s Villa Foundation.
Mary Indzeoski
June 3, 1921 - October 12, 2014
The death of Mary Indzeoski (nee Siermachesky), 93 years of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt occurred on Sunday, October 12, 2014. Mary was born on June 3, 1921 in Tarnopol, Borszczow, Poland to Fred and Anne (nee Zajac) Siermachesky. She came to Canada with her mother in 1927 to join her dad. She was raised on a farm in Carmel District. Mary attended Carmel School. On November 18, 1939 she married Tony Indzeoski. Together they ran a mixed farm. Mary was a very hard working woman who helped out in all areas of the farm. Mary and Tony were blessed with three surviving children. Mary was an amazing cook and she always grew a big garden. She loved her family and looked forward to having them visit where she could cook up the tastiest meal. Of course no one left her home hungry or empty handed. She also loved when company would stop in and this visit usually ended in the wee hours of the morning after many games of cards. She was very dedicated to her family and was always there to help out. In 1990 Mary and Tony moved to Humboldt. They enjoyed their life in town and she continued to be a gracious hostess to her company. In 1995 Tony passed away. Due to failing health Mary moved to St. Mary’s Villa in 2004 where she resided until the present. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her three children, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren: SHEILA (Roman) Ewanishin and family, Randy (Tanya) Ewanishin and children Miranda, Alyssa and Bradon, Richard Ewanishin and Elliott (Randene) Ewanishin and children Cole and Daenen; JEROME (Marj) Indzeoski and family, Kory (Chantel) Indzeoski and children Brett, Tyler, Kinsey and Makenna, Collin Indzeoski (Jessie Eggerman) and his son Brandon, Mandy (Tom) Schweighardt and children Keaton and Emersyn and Krista Indzeoski (Chad Taylor) and children Lane and Lacey; and GLADYS Lenyk and family, Adam (Jennifer) Lenyk and children Gavyn and Blake; sister, Helen Stadnyk; brother, Mike (Antonia) Siermachesky; sisters-and-brothers-in-law: Roman (Ann) Indzeoski, Harry Indzeoski, Pauline Komarnicki, Elsie Indzeoski and Sally Indzeoski; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Tony Indzeoski; son, Johnny in infancy; great grandson, Devin Ewanishin; parents, Fred and Anne Siermachesky; parents-in-law, Peter and Katie Indzeoski; brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Jenny (Tony) Smood, Frank (Helen) Indzeoski, Nick (Janet) Indzeoski, John Indzeoski, Mike Indzeoski, Roman Stadnyk, Mary (Alex) Gabruch, Verna (Fred) Boyenko, Bill Komarnicki and Mary Indzeoski. The Prayer Service was held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, led by Nestor Trach and organist, Darlene Cash. The Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Church, Humboldt, celebrated by Fr. Mykola Romanets with cantor, Sally Indzeoski. Interment followed in the All Saints Parish Cemetery. Memorial Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Villa Foundation or Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan.
Agnes Leshchyshyn
June 28, 1929 - October 8, 2014
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden unexpected death of Mrs. Agnes (nee Woynarski) Leshchyshyn 85 years young of Wynyard on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon. Agnes was born in Wynyard on June 28, 1929 to Michael and Frances (Wolitski) Woynarski. Agnes will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years Mac Leshchyshyn of Wynyard; four children: Theresa (Glorian) Keyowski of Wynyard, Stephania (Thom) Gibb of Abbotsford, BC, Jeanette (Jackson) Bearss of Canmore, AB and David (Suzanne) Leshchyshyn of Sylvan Lake, AB; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; four sisters and one brother: Emily Madey, Victoria (Mike) Spuzak all of Wynyard, Kay Borowski, Elsie (Gordon) Moroz all of Wishart and Stan (Sandy) Woynarski of Saskatoon; sisters-in-law: Anne (Arnold) Davey of Strasbourg and Victoria Leshchyshyn of Wynyard; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Agnes was predeceased by her parents Michael and Frances Woynarski; son George in infancy; two brothers: Eddie (Dorothy) Woynarski and Walter Woynarski; brothers-in-law: Mike (Polly) Leschyshyn and Steve Leshchyshyn. A Prayer service was held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. officiated by Fr. Jeffrey Stephaniuk. Both services were held at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Wynyard. Interment followed at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Wynyard. Memorial donations in Agnes’s memory may be directed to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan or Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan.
