HAWRYSH, Mary Hawrysh (Kohuch), widow of Dmytro, passed away at the Pasqua Hospital on Thursday, April 5, 2001. She was predeceased by her son Nestor in 1937; husband Dmytro in 1994; her parents George and Anne Kohuch; sister Anne Pylipiuk. She is survived by one son Morris (Yvonne) of Regina and their children Dawna, Rick, Kelly, Robert and Dana; one daughter Norma (Jim) Fletcher of Guelph, Ont. and her children Patricia, Jeffery, Robert and Shauna; sisters Sophie (Andrew) Boyko, Stella (Steven) Sekora and Clara (Walter) Spoozak; nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was born on November 3, 1913 in Western Ukraine in the Stanislaw region. Her father emigrated to Canada in 1913 but she, along with her mother and sister Annie, were stranded in Western Ukraine for the duration of World War I. They finally were able to emigrate to Canada in 1921 and settled in the Winnipeg area. Several years later they moved to a farm south of Wynyard. It was there that she met her future husband, Dmytro, who was a teacher at the local country school, and they were married in July 1934. During his teaching career, they moved to various school districts in Saskatchewan and eventually retired to Saskatoon. They were members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Holy Trinity Cathedral in Saskatoon. She was an active participant of the Olga Kobylianska Branch of the U.W.A.C., Saskatoon. In 1979, they decided to move to Regina to be nearer to their family in their advancing years. Prayers will be held on Monday, April 9, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. at the Descent of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1305 - 12th Ave., Regina. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in the Descent of the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to a charity of choice. Arrangements in care of Speers Funeral Chapel.

HILLIER, V. Jean (Reekie) passed away March 8 in Victoria one month before her 90th Birthday. Predeceased by her husband Sam, an infant daughter Ann. She is survived by her son Jim (Ev), a daughter Melody (Fred), eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many friends & relatives. Fondly remembered by her Regina family Don, Melva Towne & family & good friend Marg Sutherland. Burial of the ashes will be in Regina at a later date.

BECKER, Joyce Darlene passed away on April 4, 2001, at the William Booth Home, at the age of 61 years. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Lindsey (1988) and Ruth (1999) Bower. Joyce was born on March 11, 1940, in Regina. Joyce attended Connaught Public and Balfour Technical Schools. Joyce was busy in the early years raising her family and working part time outside the home. For the last 20 years Joyce has been employed as a Home Health Aide by the Regina Health District. Joyce will be sadly missed by all her family. Daughter, Patricia Becker (Verne Fritzler) Govan, SK., granddaughters Dawn Chapman, Calgary, AB., Deborah, Taya, Miranda Chapman, great granddaughter Taylor Chapman, Victoria, BC., daughter Jo-Anne Becker, granddaughters, Amanda and Lindsey Becker, Kingston, ON., daughter Lenore (Orville) Belhumeur, grandchildren Ashley and Travis Belhumeur, Regina, SK., sister Bernice (Bill) Aumuller, Regina and their children, Andrea Aumuller, Lana Aumuller, Carmel (Kim) Hoyer, Calgary, AB. LEWIS, MR. ROBERT A. LEWIS, age 89 years, passed away peacefully in Regina General Hospital on Monday, April 2, 2001. He was born in Sovereign, Saskatchewan on September 7, 1911. He was predeceased by his wife Norma and brothers Malcolm, Chris and Hughie. He is survived by his children, daughter, Gail (Robert) Lowey of Regina, SK., son, Garner (Kathy) Lewis of Calgary, AB.; three granddaughters: Kerri-lyn Lowey of Comox, BC., April (Matthew) Baughman of Silverfalls, ON., and Debbi Schick of Regina, SK., one grandson Randy Lewis of Stoney Plain, AB.; one great grandson Raven Baughman of Silverfalls, ON.; one brother Ken (Lee) Lewis of Midland, ON.; three sisters Margaret (George) Whyte of Toronto, ON., Mildred Sellers of Etobicoke, ON., and Marie (Bernie) Goddard of Oakville, ON.; brother-in-law Rev. H. Douglas (Lenna) Garner of Carlyle, SK. Robert was a Saskatchewan school teacher for 38 years in Strasbourg, Star City, Campbellville, Beatty, Assiniboia, and Balfour Technical School (Regina). He also taught correspondence courses for the Saskatchewan Correspondence School. He helped design the large addition to Balfour Technical School and the design of the Gail Stewart apartment complex where he resided. In his retirement he kept in touch by phone to all his relatives but his greatest love was, on his Macintosh computer, to create posters, banners, graphics, tickets, and calendars for the apartment complex, RSSTA, and for his daughter's classroom. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at the Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, on Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jack Oglesby officiating. MUIRHEAD, Marjorie (Madge) Maggie late of Sunset Extendicare Regina, passed away at the age of 96 years on April 2, 2001. Predeceased by her husband William James Clayton Muirhead, parents William and Minnie Jolly, four brothers and four sisters. Madge is survived by children Calvin (Dorothy) of Greenlake, BC. (70 Mile House), Donald (Donna) of Sheriden Lake, BC. (100 Mile House), Leslie (Betty-Anne) of Saskatoon, SK. Allan (Ida) of Calgary, AB., Elaine (Allan) Lechinsky of Regina, SK. Madge was raised and educated in the Southey District and at 14 years of age had her first job at the Reeves office in Cupar, SK. Her next job took her to Weyburn, SK with the Municipal Office. It was in Weyburn where she met and married her husband Clayton (Nifty). Clayton was with International Harvester and was transferred to Swift Current in the midst of the Deppression (Dirty 30's). They moved to Southey and subsequently Regina, where they both resided until their passing. Madge was a member of U.C.T. Women's Auxiliary and greatly enjoyed her fellowship with the organization for many years. Her greatest joy was her family - one sister Edna (Arthur) Davidson; her 5 children, 90 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was a mentor and surrogate mother to many people throughout her life and will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. Visitation will be held tonight, Thursday, April 5, 2001 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave., Regina, Sk. Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday April 6, 2001 at Speers Funeral Chapel with Rev Derek Nicholls officiating. Interment to follow in Riverside Memorial Park, Regina, Sk. SCHMIDT, Rose Margaret Schmidt (nee Koch) died on April 3, 2001 at Sunnyside Nursing Home. She is survived by her children; son Cecil (Muriel) Schmidt of Vernon, B.C., daughter Marlene Burns of Kamloops, B.C. and son Ron (Loretta) Schmidt of Saskatoon; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, sister Othelia "Tiny" Lumley of Regina, brother Gus (Heather) Koch of Regina, sisters-in-law Julia and Mary Schmidt of Regina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frank, parents Joseph and Margareta Koch, son-in-law Jack Burns, grandson Tom Burns, brothers Tom and Frank Koch, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Rose was born on May 11, 1914 in Balgonie, SK. She and Frank were married in the pool hall in Dilke, SK. in 1933 and later lived in Liberty and Young, SK. before moving to Saskatoon in 1951. Mom worked at a number of jobs before she completed her working career as a house mother at the nurses residence of St. Paul's Hospital. Mom and Dad enjoyed their retirement, going to many seniors' dances, playing cards, and visiting with their special group of friends and relatives. Mom also loved to bake, garden and bowl, and to help Dad with his crafts. Mom was the eyes and Dad was the memory of their very special team. They were very good together. We extend a special thanks to all the staff at Sunnyside Nursing Home for the great care that they gave Mom these last years. In lieu of flowers, donation made to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated by the family. The Vigil of Prayer will be held on Thursday, April 5th, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. and the Funeral Liturgy will take place on Friday, April 6th, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Parish Church (217 Lenore Drive) and will be celebrated by Fr. Ken Beck. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Westwood Funeral Chapel.
