DORA WILLIAMS

Dora Williams of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully with her husband and family at her side on July 6, 2010. Dora was born Dora Sveinbjorg Ketilson on October 11, 1923 on the homestead at Leslie, Sask. and attended school at Kristness. In December of 1943 she married Selmer Reierson and they had four children before their marriage ended in 1960. In 1965 Dora moved to Regina to attend Success Business College where she received her secretarial training. While working at Western Patrol she met, and married Jack Williams on February 17, 1968. During their marriage Dora and Jack took care of a total of 56 foster children which they loved dearly. Each time a child left their home it broke Dora’s heart. In their retirement Dora was able to travel with Jack, do her beautiful knitting, and enjoy friends and family. In 2005 Dora and Jack moved to Moose Jaw to be close to family. Dora had macular degeneration and also minor strokes which ultimately took her sight, mobility and speech in her last year. Jack, and daughters Lorraine and Barb became her caregivers until her passing. Dora’s family was her most important possession, and she was happiest when surrounded by her family and in their absence by her cat Bootsie. She was a woman of love and there was never a time at the end of a telephone conversation or leaving after a visit that she did not say ‘I love you”. Dora was predeceased by siblings, Ketil, Sigga, Beggi, Skuli, Gunna and Lucy. Dora will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Jack Williams, her children Arlene (Marven) Shields, Lorraine (Bryan) Bakke, Ken (Laura) Reierson, Barb (Doug) Measner, her grandchildren Tekla (Tom) Kadachuk, Tara (Perry) Andrusiak, Trisha (Dallas) Fast, Tyler Bakke, Stacey (Rhett) Lippai, Troy (Christine) Bakke, Joelle (Brett) Bergsveinson, Ken Reierson, Brandie Gardner, Dallas (Tanya) Measner, Bree-Ann Cronan; great-grandchildren Brandon and Nolan Kadachuk, Austin and Paige Andrusiak, Dillon and Alexia Fast, Reese, Jackson and Griffin Lippai, Magnus Bakke, Blaine Burkitt, Angela Burkitt (Shane Stadniuk), Kelsey and Jordan Bergsveinson, Madison and Braydon Gardner, Sydney, Mackenzie and Nate Measner and Maddox Cronan; great- great-grandchildren Ashlynn and Seth. EVERT ROY COMSTOCK
December 8, 1928 – February 11, 2009

Evert Comstock was born on December 8, 1928 to Evert and Betty Comstock of the Mitchellton district in Saskatchewan. An only child, Evert, or Ev as he was known to his friends, was the apple of his mother’s eye and his father’s right hand man as he grew up and helped on the farm in those early years. In 1946 or thereabouts (family accounts vary according to whom you ask!!) Evert met a young school teacher in Mitchellton by the name of Eileen Kopperud. Several years later, after an appropriate amount of courting and the requisite number of requests, Eileen agreed to become Evert’s wife and they were married in January of 1949. Evert’s life was characterized by hard work and a great dedication to his family, the land and his neighbours. He had an incredible aptitude for things mechanical…if it had a motor, wheels or gears, he could drive it, operate it and fix it. Ask any of his neighbours about who their “go-to” man was when there was an equipment problem that needed fixing – they will all be able to tell you a story or two about the time Ev came over and solved what had looked to be impossible. Generally known as a man of few words, Evert demonstrated his love for his family with actions more often than he did verbally. When the kids came home for the weekend you were liable to find him out in the shop changing oil, replacing brake shoes and topping up fluid levels – all done before the kids got up for breakfast! Evert and Eileen farmed together for many years…when health problems forced him into retirement Ev had taken 55 harvests off his land. He didn’t just farm for a living…he was a farmer right down to his last bone. Evert and Eileen had 4 children: Lyle (Eva Wisner, Battleford), Anne (died at birth), Keith (Janet Harder, Regina), and Karen (Jim Burke, Calgary). Six grandchildren and five great grandchildren, so far, round out the family. Everyone always loved to visit out at the farm…bbq’s down at the trees, shooting a few gophers, drives over to the hills or the pasture to see teepee rings and just sitting back after a big meal and a few of those famous “do you remember the time…” stories were just a few of the things that made the farm home to everyone. Eileen died in 2001 and the years since were not particularly kind to Evert. He was forced to move to Regina in 2004 after his own battle with cancer and while he was closer to family, it wasn’t the same for him. Living in the city just wasn’t his style, and although he accepted it with grace, those who knew him well could tell that the sounds and smells of traffic just weren’t as good as the sound of crickets at night and the smell of grain dust floating in on the breeze in fall. Evert will always be loved and remembered by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as the members of the community of Mitchellton. The Comstock family greatly appreciates the care and kindness shown to Evert by the staff of the Kinmara Special Care home and the nurses, doctors and staff of the Pasqua and General Hospitals. A Service to Celebrate Evert’s Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 15th at W. J. Jones and Son Funeral Chapel in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Rev. Doug Shepherd will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Evert’s name may be made to the Allan Blair Memorial Cancer Clinic at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. In living memory of Evert, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
