It is with great sadness that Crystal and Lisa announce the sudden passing of their mother, Debbie. Debbie is survived by her loving sister, Barb (Bryan) Holmes, their children: Angie, Jeff and Stephanie; daughters: Crystal Borody (companion, Philip), and Lisa Borody (companion, Brett); their father, John; estranged husband, Denis Struble, as well as many, many close friends and associates that she was lovingly dedicated to. Debbie’s daughters were the pride of her life. She had many friendships both near and far that were very special to her, she loved so many so dearly and was always there for them. She loved to travel with her family and friends and always took advantage of opportunities for adventure. Debbie will be sadly missed by her family, friends, co-workers and customers. A Celebration of Debbie’s Life will be held on Friday, January 30, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Minto United Church, 1036 – 7th Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. Loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather, devoted friend; always a willing mentor, Irvine leaves behind a legacy of kindness, inspiration, wisdom, and community service. His tireless efforts will be greatly missed. His good natured smile will always be cherished by his loving family who will miss him dearly. A Celebration of Irvine’s life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Monday February 2, 2009 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Helen (Petrescue) Mertick, born December 25, 1921, passed away on January 28, 2009 at Moose Jaw Extendicare Nursing Home. Helen came into the world in Kayville, Sask. as the 16th child of George and Agafia Petrescue. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Alex, her son, George, at 13 months and 8 brothers and 7 sisters. She is survived by her children, Diane (Alby) Williams, Gerald (Elva), Cliff (Brigitte) and 7 grandchildren; Jeff (Elsia), Jayda (Justin) Mercier, Kelly-Ann (Graham) Sluth, Alexis, Jon, Thad, Diedre (Dom) Rubino and 6 great grandchildren; Skye, Summer, Abby, Zoe, Valencia and Joseph. Much could be expressed about her hardworking drive and her exquisite cooking and baking, such as her unduplicated donuts and her garden which would make you "scared" how well it grew. Even more could be related about her experiences and determination of bringing the Good News of the Kingdom to others well into her 80's. As well, her older friends and family could talk to you at length about Helen's skill as an athletic baseball player and as a dancer light on her feet. But the epitome of Helen's exceptional character was never better experienced as when she would sit at the kitchen table with her children and her grandchildren, teasing and being teased, expressing her love, concern and simply having fun. Her most prominent desire all through her life was for everyone, especially her family, to get along in peace, love and forgiveness amongst each other. From this hope, she never wavered. Mom, it's time to rest. The paradise you faithfully looked to is so near. You fought the fine fight. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Extendicare for all your love and compassion. Over the 15 months of her residing there, the phenomenal support and care given went way above the call of duty. Her caregivers were like family. Words cannot express our appreciation. Services to be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 200 Mulberry Lane and Thatcher Drive, Moose Jaw and will be presided by James Sikorski at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2009. Lawrence Pederson, aged 93 years of Tugaske, passed away peacefully at the Central Butte Regency Manor on January 29, 2009. Lawrence was predeceased by his wife Alberta, his parents Peder and Alice, and brothers Arnold and Sverre. He is survived by his brother Norman, sister Madeleine Gunningham, several nieces, nephews, their families, and many friends. The Funeral Service will be held at the Tugaske Community Hall on Tuesday February 3, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Reverend Rick McCorrister will officiate. Interment will follow at the Tugaske Cemetery. ELEANOR FRANCES MUIR (nee: Buchanan) of Moose Jaw passed away at the Union Hospital on February 1, 2009. Predeceased by her parents: Charles and Jane Buchanan; brothers, Vernon and Kenneth Buchanan; brothers-in-law, Doug Neil, Ian and Ronald Muir, Eleanor is survived by her husband, Alastair, daughter, Allison (Randy) Donaldson and their children: Ashley (Dana) Bushko and Morgan Donaldson; daughter, Pamela (Dennis) Grado and their children: Amanda (Adam) Dowling and Lyndsay Grado; sisters: Charlotte Neil and Margaret (Cecil) Reisner; sisters-in-law: Eleanor Moore, Alice Buchanan, Jean Muir and Sheena Muir, brother-in-law, Gordon Muir, as well as nieces and nephews. In keeping with Eleanor’s wishes, there will be no public funeral service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a donation to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 1H3. CHERYL “KIM” TAMES (nee: St. John) of Moose Jaw and formerly of Edmonton and area passed away February 3, 2009 following a long battle with cancer. Predeceased by her stepdaughter, Amanda Tames, Kim is survived by her three children: Dakota Tames, Thom Tames and Melissa (Missi) St. John - Geary, stepson, Jeremy Tames, husband, Richard Tames, parents, Jim and Kay St. John; siblings: Ron St. John, Janice (Joe) Maier and Wayne (Leigh) St. John, as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Kim’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Garry Johnson will officiate. Memorialization will take place in Edmonton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2 or to a charity of one’s choice. Jim Fountain

Jim was born October 23, 1921 near Melfort, Saskatchewan to Vivian & Clarence Fountain who moved their family to Morse when Jim was a youngster. Jim started working as a mechanic at the age of 15, eventually obtaining his Journeyman status. He also hauled scrap iron and collected bones to help his mother raise his younger sisters Alice and Peggy while his older brother Stan and younger sister Edith were at war. Jim also had a younger brother Allan who passed away as a youngster. In 1941 Jim went to Kapuskasing, Ont. with his eventual father-in-law Marten Ferguson and cut cord wood in a work camp for 2 years. In 1943 Jim started playing hockey as a goaltender for The Morse Hockey Team. Jim married Florence Ferguson November 10, 1949 and they moved to Porcupine Plain where he worked as a mechanic for almost 2 years. In 1951 shortly after Jim and Florence moved back to Morse, Shirley, the apple of Jim's eye was born. For about the next 10 years Jim worked for Ike Wiens, Horst Vandergrift and then Charlie Billets, before going to work for Lawrence Toews for many years. While working at Toews Garage, Jim also picked up and hauled garbage for the Town of Morse. In 1961 Jim and Florence's first son Mont was born and in 1962 their other son Morley was born. In the early 70's Jim started Jim's Gulf Service. When the boys were old enough, they started playing hockey. Jim coached them when they were both Pee Wee age. Jim took time almost every spring to take his family to Loon Lake on a fishing trip with extended family and every summer to take his family on a camping vacation. A shoulder injury forced Jim to close his garage at the age of 63. At that time he continued to work part time from his home shop until the fall of 2005. As well, he maintained roadside parks at Val Jean and Ernfold and the Morse Cemetery. Jim enjoyed any time possible visiting with friends and family and especially enjoyed spending time with nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He enjoyed working in his garden, helping with the flower pots as well as decorating his house for Halloween and Christmas every year after closing his garage. Jim also enjoyed playing cards, shaking dice and going to the Casino. More times than not luck was on his side. Jim also took up Sudoku at the age of 85. At the age of 87, Jim passed away peacefully with his family at his side in Herbert hospital January 31, 2009. Jim was predeceased by his father, mother and all his brothers and sisters. Left to mourn are his wife Florence, daughter Shirley (Irvin Hoffman) all from Morse, son Mont (Laurie), grandsons Shawn and Jamie all from Victoria, granddaughters Chantel and Natasha in Kelowna, son Morley (Deanna), grandchildren Justin and Caitlin all from Kamloops, as well as many nieces and nephews and in-laws. The Celebration of Jim’s life was held at the Morse Community Hall on Wednesday February 4, 2009. Memorialization took place in the Morse Cemetery. In living memory of Jim, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by Prairie Memorial Funeral Home, Chaplin.
