Blenda (Raknerud) Tien
Blenda (Raknerud) Tien of Weyburn, SK. passed away peacefully at Tatagwa View Nursing Home on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the age 96 years. Blenda was predeceased by her parents John and Christina Larson, first husband Ed Raknerud, second husband Joe Tien, son Gordon Raknerud, son-in-law Al Wickman, brothers Algot Larson and Gordy Larson, sisters Esther Stovra and Alice Jensen. Blenda is lovingly survived by daughters Elda Wickman (Kelowna, B.C.), Marlene (Terry) Pierce, daughter-in-law Delores Raknerud, all of Weyburn, 10 granchildren: Julie (Bob) Little, Connie (Darrell) Kuryluk, Darwin (Heather) Wickman of Kelowna, B.C., Marence (Charlene) Pierce, Nancy Kopec (Rob Hippe), Susan Pierce (Dwight Achen) of Milestone, Bob (Valerie) Raknerud, Diane Raknerud, Brian (Lorrie) Raknerud of Dauphin, Man., Cheryl (Lionel) Fraser of Nipawin, 27 great grandchildren and 24 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Blenda was born on a farm near Lake Alma on October 21, 1912 to John and Christina Larson. She was the second youngest of 5 children. She married Ed Raknerud on October 27, 1928 and spent most of her life on the farm until the passing of Ed and shortly after she moved to Weyburn, where she started to work at Mount St. Marys. She was Honor Guard of Royal Purple and also involved with St. John Ambulance. She had been promoted on the list of the Queen's Honors of Promotion and Admissions to the Order of St. John for 1975. She had been a member of the St. John's Brigade since 1968. While with the brigade she had instructed many first aid courses for the Weyburn branch without remuneration. On July 15, 1977 she met and married Joe Tien and moved to Camrose, Alberta. While living in Camrose she continued to square dance. She loved to sing so she joined the Golden Tones Choir and they traveled to places in BC, Alberta and Sask. to perform. She made lot's of close friends there and they all loved to play cards. When Joe passed away in March, 1987 she continued to live in Camrose until August, 2001 and moved back to Weyburn to the Legion Towers. She kept herself occupied playing cards at Legion Towers and Wheatland Senior Centre. She enjoyed visiting friends but her real love was to be with her family even if it was to go some place every day to have a coffee with them. She always had a good sense of humor and liked to pull jokes on people. She had lived a good healthy life up until the last 6 months when her health started to decline. In September, 2004, she had fallen and she then went to live at Tatagwa View Nursing Home until her passing. A funeral service was held January 16th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, SK. Active pallbearers were her great grandsons: Ron Kopec, Mike Church, Bradley Murphy, Terry Pierce, Worthy Pierce and Chris Raknerud. Honorary pallbearers were all in attendance. Those wishing to do so may make a donation in memory of Blenda to the charity of their choice or to the Weyburn Family Place. Mervin Laurin Johnson
On Sunday, January 11th, 2009, Mervin Laurin Johnson passed away at Parkway Lodge at the age of 93 years. Mervin was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Nels Johnson, brothers and sisters, Mabel, Nestor, Oscar, Gladys and Beatrice. Mervin is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret Johnson of Weyburn and their three children: Allen (Marilyn) Johnson of Creston, BC and their daughters: Melanie (Leo) Bugera and their daughter, Meagan, Shannon (Jack) McNaughton and their sons, Connor and Camden; Duane (Sherrelle) Johnson of Tribune and their children, Janalyn, Lacey and Cody; and Laureen (Doug) McPherson of Weyburn and their children, Dallas (Chelsey), and Devin (Michelle) and their daughter, Gaia; his sisters, Dorothy Lyons of Neepawa, MB and Ruby Frank of Penticton, BC; sister-in-law, Pat McNeil of Regina as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mervin was born June 1, 1915 and grew up on the family farm, which later became Oscars and eventually David Kyrylchuk's. He attended school at Lorndale. Mervin married Margaret Wilson at the church manse in Midale, Sask. on November 20, 1942, Pat Wilson (McNiel) and Willie Uhrich were bridesmaid and best man. Mervin farmed all his life on the farm at Tribune, first with his brother, Oscar and later on his own on Section 21-4-14 West of 2nd which is South 1/2 mile of his family farm. His passion was his farming, family and friends. Mervin enjoyed fishing, playing cards and loved curling. He helped build the Tribune Community Curling and Skating Rink and also the Tribune Community Hall. He curled in Tribune and Weyburn, travelling to see several Silver Broom competitions. They travelled on Bus tours to Eastern Canada and the Maritimes, as well as to California and Mexico. Mervin was a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Board, now Viterra, and served as secretary of the Tribune United Church. They retired to Weyburn in 1979 and transferred their membership to Grace United Church which they actively attended until they moved to Parkway Lodge in December of 2004. In his later years, Mervin enjoyed visits from his family and visits from "Misty", his daughter's small dog. He also enjoyed watching curling and spending time with his wife, Margaret. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all he knew and loved. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapels, Weyburn with Rev. Barnabas officiating. Interment followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. The Pallbearers were: Donald Zackrisson, Rick Kopec, David Kyrylchuk, Michael Woodard, Leo Bugera and Devin McPherson. Joseph Lawrence Adacsi
Joseph Lawrence Adacsi was born on a farm his parents rented east of Weyburn on November 1st, 1936. He was the third child of five born to Lawrence and Annie Adacsi. He started school at Schneider School and when his family moved a few miles away to their new homestead he continued on at East Weyburn School. He loved many sports, but his favorite was playing hardball for the Hume Eagles along with his brother Eddy. In 1972 Joe married Dianne Erickson and they moved a house to the family farm where they farmed with his parents. In 1973 they welcomed their first child, a son, Cary, their daughter Tammy in 1974, and another son, Marty in 1979. In 1983 Joe and Dianne went their separate ways, and Joe raised the children on the farm. Joe taught his children to ride horses, tend to the cows and raise chickens. They all learned how to swath hay, combine crops, haul bales and many other chores. Joe was not all about work; he rode motorcycles, snowmobiles and played catch with his kids. He loved to play country music on his banjo and guitar and taught his son Cary to play the guitar also. He watched Tammy and Marty play sports, and even went on a few school trips. He was very proud when his boys started to farm with him and Tammy went on to university. Joe loved when people would stop by for a cup of coffee and to chat. In 2008 Joe welcomed his first grandson, Reid and spent many fun filled days with him. Farming may not have made him a wealthy, but he felt he was a rich man for having raised three children and to have spent time with his grandson. Joe passed away suddenly on January 11, 2009 at the age of 72 and will be sorely missed by all of the people he met in his lifetime. Joe was predeceased by his father Lawrence and his mother Annie and brother Edward. He is survived by his sons Cary Adacsi, Weyburn, his daughter Tammy Adacsi of Calgary, AB, Marty (Shanon) Adacsi, Weyburn and their son Reid Adacsi; three sisters: Helen (Paul) Paslawski of Osage and son Daryl (Jocelyn); Margaret Zimmer and children, Darvin (Dawn) and Yolanda (Kim) Spencer; Liz (George) Francis and their sons, Troy and Ryan (Debbie) and numerous great-nieces and nephews and friends. A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel with Fr. Gerry Bauche, officiating. The eulogy was read by Brenda Chappell. Active pallbearers were Glen Adacsi, Kevin Cooke, Kim Spencer, Daryl Paslawski, Darvin Zimmer and Greg Browatzke. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. For family and friends so wishing donations in memory of Joe may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan. Retta Marilla Loucks
Retta Marilla Loucks, formerly of Creelman, SK. passed away on January 11, 2009 in the Fillmore Health Centre at the age of 97 years. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Clara Berry, her husband, Charlie Loucks in 1991 and her infant sister, Beth in 1923. Retta will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Beryl, Victoria, B.C.; her three sons, Eric (Marion), Weyburn, Roy (Lois), Calgary, AB., Dale (Val), Moose Jaw, and her daughter, Anne Smith, Regina. Grandchildren: Wes (Donna) Loucks, Joanne (Shaun) Fraser, Tamara (Paul) Spasoff, Kevin (Tara) Smith, Kirk (Terri-Ann) Smith, Natasha Anderson, Courtney (Ryan) Brazeal and Krystal Chow-Loucks; Great Grandchildren: Jasmine, Brandon & Katelyn Fraser, Riley, Rody & Kyler Loucks, Zachary & Emily Spasoff, Makayla & Keithan Smith, Tyler, Ashley & Avery Smith, Jayden Anderson and Dani Brazeal. Retta enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, knitting, growing plants and flower arranging. She was active with the Hospital Guild and the Home and School Association. Retta received her Life Membership with the United Church Women and her Life Membership with the Creelman Agricultural Society. In 2004 Retta became a resident at the Fillmore Health Centre but she remained loyal to Creelman, saying, "It is the BEST little town in Saskatchewan!" Although Mom's family meant the world to her, more importantly, she meant the world to us. The family extends their thanks to the worderful staff at the Fillmore Health Centre for their excellent care they gave to Retta. Cremation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Betty Koenig
Koenig, Betty of Weyburn, SK. passed away on January 28th, 2009 at the age of 80 years. She was predeceased by her husband Joe in 2001. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her 3 daughters: Peggy, Deb (Don), and Shirly (Rick); 3 grandchildren: Kasey, Matthew and Jordan; and one great-grandchild, Arman. Betty was a very happy person who always had a smile for her many friends. Family meant the world to her, but more importantly she meant the world to them. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lenferna and the wonderful staff of the Weyburn General Hospital for their compassionate care. There will be no service at Mom's request. Lydia Layh (Amelia "Lydia" Fingas)
Lydia Layh passed away peacefully on the morning of Jan.12, 2009 in the Weyburn Special Care Home. She was 88 years old. Lydia was predeceased by her parents, brother Ernest Fingas (and his wife, Elsie) brother Emil Fingas, sister Annie Goehring (and her husband, Joe) and most recently her husband William on Nov.17, 2005. She is survived by her son Harold (Sheila Olmstead) of Carlyle, her daughter Loretta and her husband Terry Dudar of Saskatoon, grandchildren - James Layh (Christine MacGregor) of Calgary, AB., Joanne Layh of Kelowna, B.C., Tonya Dudar-Schmolke and her husband, Dr.Michael Schmolke of Calgary., Jason Dudar and his wife, Leah of Ottawa. Great-grandchildren are Natalya and Mikayla Schmolke, Calgary. and Katherine and William Dudar in Ottawa. She is also survived by Phil and Betty Layh of Weyburn and sisters-in-law, Emma Fingas of Regina, Elsie Mack of Russell and also numerous nieces and nephews. Amelia "Lydia" Fingas was born at MacNutt, SK. on August 25, 1920 to German immigrant parents, William and Elizabeth Fingas. She was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Her father passed away when she was only seven years old and she helped along with the three older children so that their mother could maintain the family farm. There she attended school and grew up. The district schoolhouse - Homeland School - was situated on the family property and it was the custom for the schoolteacher to board at the Fingas home. That is how she met the handsome, young teacher, Bill Layh whom she married at MacNutt on July 4, 1943. In 1947, Bill and Lydia with their two young children, Harold and Loretta moved to Weyburn. Bill entered and graduated from the Psychiatric Nurse Training Program. Lydia worked as mother and homemaker during those years. She was always very busy keeping an immaculate house, cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and doing various crafts. She won many prizes at the Weyburn Fair for her handiwork. She also enjoyed cards and Scrabble. After her children were grown she assumed various jobs - she was a Tupperware sales representative, custodian of Zion Lutheran Church and later worked on the kitchen staff at the nursing home. Lydia was a life member of the Alexandria Rebekah Lodge #14. She held executive positions and enjoyed many years of fellowship afforded there. Declining health took a toll on her previously out-going personality. In Aug. of 2005 Lydia suffered a heart attack and that along with problems associated with her diabetes took her to the care home. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr.Fong and all of the staff at the Weyburn Special Care Home for all of their kindnesses and the excellent and compassionate care that was shown to our mother these past years.
Alma Jean Waddell

Alma passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Royal University Hospital with family by her side. She was born April 24, 1931 at Weyburn, SK to Robert and Phyllis Waddell, late of Weyburn. Alma was predeceased by her parents, as well as her daughter Mary Jane Maurer, son Terry Maurer, grandson Troy Jacob Maurer, and brother-in-law Ted Bukowski. She is survived by her children: Peggy Vanstone, Regina; Belinda Wilhelm, Moose Jaw; Glenda Kurtz, Saskatoon; Marie (Danny) Reggin, Windfield, BC; and her daughter-in-law Colleen Ebenal, Saskatoon; her grandchildren: Tina (Denny) Whalen, Radville; Alex (Crystal) Maurer, Chauvan, AB; Gavin Maurer, Saskatoon; Colt Maurer, Weyburn; Pam (Kevin) Maas, Weyburn; Linda (Andre) Bouchard, Ottawa, ON; Vicki Vanstone (Brett Cross), Whitehorse, YT; Carla (Bill) Doell, Warman; Carrie Wilhelm, LaRonge; Shawna (Warren) Ens, Saskatoon; Leah (Steve) Maughan, Saskatoon; Dallas VanDeWeyer, Saskatoon; Mindy Kurtz, Saskatoon; and the Reggin children, Jack, Nicky, and Saphera, all of Windfield, BC. She is also survived by her sister Doreen Bukowski, Weyburn; brother Merve (June) Waddell, Yellow Grass; brother Gerry (Ann) Waddell, Saskatoon. She also leaves to mourn six great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a great multitude of friends who loved her dearly. Alma has not only been mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, but also a confidant, intercessor for the saints, and care giver for others on many occasions. In the past she has been entrusted with the care of the needs of others, and did so with much serious consideration of everything necessary for their well being. Her devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has many times been an example to others, as well as an encouragement to those around her. She shall be greatly missed for many years to come. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon. A public viewing will be held at the Yellow Grass United Church, Yellow Grass on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in the Yellow Grass Cemetery. Kenneth Royden Scott
On Monday, December 29, 2008, Kenneth Royden Scott of Radville, SK passed away suddenly at the age of 51 years. Ken was predeceased by his mother, Lillian Scott, a brother-in-law, Keith and a nephew, Landon Pitre. Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years, Audrey Scott of Radville and their three children: Adrian (Lara) of Bengough, and their son, Ethan; Adam of Radville, and Rachel (Geoff) of Weyburn; his father, Stewart Scott (Frankie) of Regina; mother and father-in-law, Al and Agnes Pitre of Weyburn; brothers and sisters, Dale (Marion) Scott of Medicine Hat, AB, Cheryl (Norman) Gagnon of Regina, Jim (Susan) Scott of Wapella, Doug (Sherry) Scott of Radville, Karen (Lonnie) Lautenslager of Regina; brothers and sisters-in-law: Danny (Debbie) Pitre of Trossachs, Susan (Brian) Bouvier of Assiniboia, Bruce (Wendy) Pitre of Weyburn; as well as many numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Kenneth Royden Scott was born in Radville on March 24th, 1957 weighing in at a whopping 10 lbs, the fourth and largest child of Stewart and Lillian Scott. Ken had five siblings: Dale, Cheryl, Jim, Doug and Karen. Growing up on the farm with his brothers and sisters kept him well occupied until he injured his hip at the age of six years. The only treatment at that time was bed rest, so Ken found himself confined to bed for almost two years. His mother was his primary care giver as well as his teacher during those years. As a result, they developed a very strong bond and Ken was always very appreciative of her and what she did for him during those years. The family would spend hours playing games with him to help pass the time, and every three months, Stewart and Lillian packed him up and took him to Regina to see the Doctor, who would take x-rays and send him home to continue the healing process. Ken would spend hours making model cars and planes to pass the time, only to find his loving brothers would take them outside and blow them up with firecrackers. When Ken's hip finally healed, it wasn't long and he was back to being a typical little boy on the farm, spending hours down at the barn with the cows. The boys would always find ways of amusing themselves, Stewart would spend all summer making the perfect haystack and the boys would come along and play in it, totally destroying all his efforts. They also played ball, participated in 4-H, trapping, ski-dooing, curling, bowling and football. Ken also had several childhood friends who have remained close throughout the years, such as Bruce McNaughton. They started grade one together and have been the best of friends ever since. Ken attended high school in Radville, until 1974 when he, like several others at that time decided academics was not his cup of tea, so his Dad sent him to work. Ken spent a couple summers building quonsets as well as making pipe in Weyburn. In 1975 Ken started work with Larsen's Construction where he remained a dedicated employee for the better part of 25 years. There was also a short stint at Dan D Trucking during that time as well. Ken had always dreamed of owning his own business and in 1999 his dream came true when he purchased his first hay truck and started K & A Trucking. Before long his business was thriving and a second truck was necessary. When he wasn't able to haul bales he was helping people seed their crop or hauling oil. Ken was never afraid of work and always had plenty of it. In the summer of 1976, Ken began dating Audrey Mary Pitre, each knowing immediately they were soul mates and were married on January 13th, 1978. Shortly after they welcomed their first son into the world, Adrian Lance, born January 31st, 1978, followed two years later by their second son, Adam Joseph Francis, born March 5th, 1980, and finally their baby girl born six years later, Rachel Marie born April 10th, 1986. Ken loved his children very much and had a very special and unique relationship with each of them. Adrian and his Dad had a very open, respectful relationship, often spending hours on the phone just talking, and he was amazed how his Dad could explain to him where something was under the hood even if he didn't know what Adrian was driving. Ken always supported Adrian in everything he did, from attending his sporting events to encouraging him to work hard and take some chances in life, they were true friends. Adam idolized his Dad, spending hours together working on vehicles. Ken taught Adam the names of all the tools and taught him how to use them. Ken and Adam shared the same love of animals, especially dogs and Ken was always encouraging Adam to do his best and try new things. Rachel was his baby girl and they had a special father and daughter relationship. He would sit with Rachel and tell her bedtime stories using her stuffed animals to add to the stories, even her friends enjoyed them when they had sleep-overs. Ken became a father-in-law on October 9th, 2004 when Adrian married Lara Dahl. She fit in with the family and Ken loved her as if she was his own. Ken was also a very proud grandfather to his 'little man' Ethan Lance born October 21st, 2006, playing on the floor with him and his trucks and cars, bouncing him on his knee and of course tickling followed by lots of laughter. He also cherished spending time with his in-laws, their favorite pass-time being camping, usually at Oungre Park where he would be sure to be the life of the campfire. He was always full of practical jokes and enjoyed gathering everyone around to watch the 'Riders' on his TV's with his satellite dish. He had an incredible ability to draw kids to him, perhaps that was because he was a big kid himself. Audrey will remember Ken as her soul mate, her best friend, whom she loved more than anything; he always found ways to make her feel special. Ken loved people and when he wasn't working, he enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing cards, telling stories, talking politics, or discussing the War with his Dad. Ken was always willing to lend a hand when it was needed with no complaints and would ask for nothing in return. He also enjoyed tinkering outside on vehicles, in the garden or just watching a little TV. Ken lived every day to its fullest, cherishing the good and the bad, always encouraging others to do the same, and making them all very proud of him. Funeral services were held, Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Radville with Kathy Gudnason officiating. The eulogy was given by his sister, Karen Lautenslager. Interment followed in Laurier Cemetery, Radville. The Active Pallbearers were: Kelly Scott, Allan Scott, Bill Scott, Justin Pitre, Shawn Bouvier and Travis Gagnon. Dennis Noel Rutledge
Dennis Noel Rutledge of Moose Jaw, passed away at the Valley View Center on January 12th, 2009 at the age of 62. Dennis was born in Bienfait, SK. on February 10th, 1946. Dennis was raised by his mother and siblings in Weyburn where he also attended school until grade 8. At the age of 15, Dennis moved to Valley View Center in Moose Jaw. Over the next 30 years, Dennis lived in a variety of homes in and around the Moose Jaw area. In 1990 he returned once again to Valley View Center where he lived until his passing. Dennis was very involved with the Valley View community as well Camp Thunderbird which he attended every summer. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin Rutledge and Joyce Provost as well as brother, Jeff. Dennis will be lovingly remembered by sister, Lynn (Bill) Hudgins, of Glen Burnie, MD, brother, Cam (Kathi) Rutledge of Oxbow, sister, June VanVolsen of Brighton, ON., sister, Helen (Larry) Saunders of Colborne, ON as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 9th at 3:00 pm at Fletcher Funeral Chapels, Weyburn, with Rev. K. David Holmes officiating. Interment will take place following the service at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Donations may be made in memory of Dennis to Valley View Center, Moose Jaw. Dennis will be dearly missed by his family and friends and all who knew him. Once you met Dennis, you never forgot him.
