Sharon Patton
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon (nee LaCoste) Patton of Kelowna, BC, formerly of Minton, January 22, 2008, at the age of 61 years. Predeceased by her parents Armand and Bernice LaCoste, a sister Matilda in infancy, sister-in-law Elisabeth LaCoste, nephew Dean LaCoste, niece Rhonda Wick, infant nephew Justin Wick and infant nephew Paul LaCoste. Sharon is survived by two sons: Eugene (Sarah) Patton and granddaughter Brookanna of Kelowna, BC; Michael (Catharine) Patton and grandchildren, James and Callie of Kelowna; daughter Marna (Matt) Carlozzi and granddaughter Ashley of Savannah, Georgia USA; former husband Bernard Patton of Crab Orchard, Kentucky; brothers and sisters: Darrell (Celia) LaCoste of Minton; Marylin (Carl) Williams of Spokane, WA; Ken (Lovey) LaCoste of Cottage Grove, OR; Aurel (Elisabeth, deceased) LaCoste of Weyburn; Vernon (Adell) LaCoste of Weyburn; Dwight (Connie) LaCoste of McTaggart; Leona (Herb) Tessier of Weyburn; Marianna (Randy) Wick of Oungre; uncle Larry (Marilyn) LaCoste of Wabamun, AB; aunt Lillian (Robin) Farmer of Sidney, BC; aunt Marlene (Glenn) Watland of AZ, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Sharon was born at Gladmar on March 12, 1946. She took her schooling at Minton, then moved to Seattle, WA at age 16 to live with her sister Marylin and Carl Williams to take a course in hairdressing. This is where she met and married Bernard Patton. They lived in various places, then moved to Kelowna in 1985 where they divorced. Sharon suffered from multiple sclerosis for many years and later with cancer. The family would gratefully like to extend their heartfelt thanks to many people for the many years of excellent care for Sharon before, and during her passing at the Cottonwoods Care Centre. Sharon was a devoted loving mother and grandmother, seeing that her family always came first. She valued many friendships over the internet. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Sharon was cremated and interment will be held at a later date at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.
L. Evelyn Isabel Kusmire
March 19, 1924-February 3, 2008
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Evelyn Kusmire (nee Muirhead) at the age of 83 years. Mum was born and raised in Estevan, and lived in the Estevan area, British Columbia, Weyburn, and Red Deer, AB. She was educated in Estevan and graduated from the Grey Nuns nursing school, Regina in 1945. She worked in the nursing profession all her working life. Mum married our dad, Robert Kusmire on November 13, 1945. We, her four children, Lyn (Jerry Carter) Fleming, Paul (Pat) Kusmire, Bev (Wayne) Loustel, Roberta (Allen Thomas) Tollefson, will truly miss her, as will her eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mum was always active with her family and friends. She loved macramé, needle point, petite point, knitting and one of her biggest loves was playing cards. She loved camping, boating and swimming with her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Bob (Robert) Kusmire, her parents, William and Isabel Muirhead, six brothers and three sisters and is survived by one brother, Jack (Joyce) Muirhead. A special thanks goes out to all the hospital staff in units 31, 33 and 35, also to Dr. Hovan, Nannies for Grannies and the staff at Red Deer Valley Park Manor. A Memorial Service was held in celebration of Evelyn's life at Sunnybrook United Church (12 Stanton Street, Red Deer, AB) on Friday, February 8, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Salvation Army are appreciated. Don Kunard
With great sadness, his loving family said goodbye to Don Kunard who lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, January 20, 2008. Donald Edwin Kunard was predeceased by his parents, John and Ethel Kunard; one sister, Willa Brown; one brother, John Kunard; a nephew, Tracey Kunard; in-laws, George Williams, Royce Brown, Beryl and Lyle Keefe and Evan Powell. Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Fern Kunard (nee Powell) of Weyburn, and their daughter, Christine (Derrick) Tincher of Calgary, AB, three grandsons: Morgan Tincher (Kim Alexander) of Vancouver, BC, Jeffrey (Jeanie) Tincher of Calgary, AB, Brendan Tincher (Krista Dawson) of Calgary, AB; and great grandson, Dawson Tincher, the joy of his life; a brother, Garry (Lila) Kunard of Saskatoon; a sister, Joyce Williams of Saskatoon; a half-sister, Charlotte Cameron of Wadena; sisters-in-law, Gwen Kunard of Prince Albert and Io Powell of Regina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Don was born at Coderre, grew up in Bridgeford, later being employed at Medicine Hat, AB, Griffin, and finally with Nexans in Weyburn, where he retired after 36 years of service. Don passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital. He will be sadly missed by all he knew and loved. By request of the family, a Memorial Service will be held from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, at a later date. It will be announced at the time. Interment to follow in Griffin Cemetery. Reginald Bruce Copeland
Reginald Bruce Copeland passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at the age of 81 years. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Bill, Art and Alf. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Arlene; children Don (Kathryn), Nancy (Ken) Brandick and Kathy Heisler; grandchildren, Don's children: Sheilagh (Steve) Byler, Melissa (Kent) Breedlove, Rob (Lisel) Copeland; Nancy's children: Jennifer and Jason Brandick; Kathy's children: Colette (Phil) Thompson and Samantha Heisler; great grandchildren Colin Byler; Joseph and Maggie Breedlove; Sophie, Walker and Lowell Copeland; and Alena, Sarah and Megan Thompson; as well as nieces, nephews, one cousin and friends. Reg was born in Moose Jaw and worked as a station agent for the CPR for 20 years, after which he became the General Chairman of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers, then he owned and operated the Halfway House Hotel in Davidson. Reg took great pleasure in traveling extensively with Arlene and treasured the time he spent with his family. A funeral service was held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Thursday, February 7, at 2:00 pm, with Dr. John Barkman officiating. Hazel Annis Larson
On Saturday, February 9, 2008 Hazel Annis Larson passed away at Tatagwa View Long Term Care Facility, at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Mathilde Raknerud; her husband, Emanuel Larson and one daughter, Mildred Larson. Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her family, four children: Merrilyn (Mervin) Percy of Powell River, BC; Lorraine Trobert of Weyburn; Lorna (Leon) Cherpin of Saskatoon; and James (Cindy) Larson of Cranbrook, BC; grandchildren: Sean (Lauri) Percy, Kevin (Kirsten) Percy, Eric (Jodie) Percy, Sheila (Cedric) Guillemin, Jerry (Celeste) Trobert, Kim (Vic) Koszman, Marnie O'Neill, Gary (Anna) Cherpin, Carl (Kristeen) Cherpin, Brian (Tina) Cherpin, Amy and Kaitlyn Larson; 22 great grandchildren; one sister, Vonnie of Calgary, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Hazel was born September 21, 1921 in Sintaluta, the sixth child of eight. She was born after her father returned from the army, and had many fond memories of her early childhood, but when her mother got sick, things changed. She was in an orphanage for awhile, and there were stories from that time as well. One positive influence that sparked her for later life was a lady who came in to hear her prayers and sing "Jesus, Tender Shepherd" to them. She still sang the song after she was adopted. Two months and two days before her sixth birthday, she was taken by train to Estevan and then to Lake Alma where she was met by her adoptive parents, Alfred and Mathilde Radnerud. Going to Maxim by horse and buggy, they came home to meet her four adopted brothers. In a house with the dad and four sons, it sounds that the mother appreciated a little girl in the house and made her dresses. Her brothers must have enjoyed having a sister, since Edgar made her a swing and Henry made her a play house out of wood. He would even pretend to eat the mud pies she made. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, being confirmed July 25, 1937. She was in the junior league and sang in the choir. When her folks moved to B.C., she went and made a good friend, Annie Lee; but she missed her friends and Church back in Maxim, so she moved back. On June 29, 1940, Hazel married Emmanuel Larson, the ceremony took place in the pastor's house in Weyburn. In 1941, her biological family made contact, and from that time on, she kept in touch with them. In the fall of 1942, they bought her dad's farm and moved in. She again was active in the church. The marriage was blessed with four daughters and one son. She and Immanuel lived 37 years on the farm, moving to Weyburn after their retirement. She will be lovingly missed and fondly remembered by all she knew and loved. Funeral service was held Tuesday, February 12 at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Martin Olson and Marjorie McLeod officiating, Helen Flaaten was organist and soloist, June Fletcher. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. Honorary pallbearers were all Hazel's grandchildren and great grandchildren. The active pallbearers were: Jerry Trobert, Gary Cherpin, Carl Cherpin, Brian Cherpin, Vic Koszman and Brendan Guillemin. Stanley Hill
Surrounded by the love of his family, Stan passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the age of 66. A valiant heart is still but he is free from his struggle with lung disease. We will miss him so. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He listened, cared, inspired and shared his experience and wisdom. We were graced to have him in our lives and he will always live deeply in our hearts. Stan was born in Regina to Cliff and Olga Hill on July 29, 1941. His early years were spent on the farm north of Yellow Grass and in 1955 the family moved to the farm north of Lang where he lived until his high school grad and farmed until 2007. Stan was an avid baseball and hockey player and played on several provincial winning teams throughout his life. He was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan and loved attending the Regina Pats hockey games as an avid season ticket holder. He was a proficient track athlete, holding provincial records in triple jump and middle distance that were not broken for many, many years. Some of his proudest moments were spent coaching minor hockey teams and his daughter's softball teams to excellence. His laughter could be heard throughout the skating rinks as he watched his daughters and granddaughter figure skate and his grandsons play hockey. Stan enjoyed his teaching career as a principal of Yellow Grass School, math and science teacher at Crescent Heights High in Medicine Hat and particularly his years at SIAST in the ABE program. He deeply cherished the relationships he had with the staff and students there. Stan is survived by his loving wife, Kathy and his devoted daughters, Krista Hill (Doug), Sharla (Jamie) Shaw, and Keri (Rick) Rieger; beloved grandchildren: Rayane and Kyle Hill, Zachary and Katie MacDonald-Shaw, and Karyss Rieger. He is also survived by his mother, Irene, his brother Donald (Lorraine) and family Kirby, Kelly (Robin), Carolyn (Sid) Neumann and daughters, and Connie; his sisters, Colette (Orvel) Skiftun and sons Corey (Nicole) and Aaron (Roberta) and son Aiden, Joanne (Bob) Williams and family Craig and Allison (Kelly) Yaremko and daughter Kailey, Shelley (Emile) Daoust and family Cassie and Antony, brother-in-law Gerry (Gayle) Dammann and family Brant, Kirk, Colin and Brianne, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Predeceased by his father Cliff, mother Olga, and sister Darlene Dammann. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 18, in Westhill Park Baptist Church, 8025 Sherwood Drive, with Pastor David Simpson officiating. Stan's family would like to thank Dr. Carol Geddes for her exceptional care, Dr. Abdulla, Cheryl MacKay and home care, Medigas, ICU staff, especially Dr. Jones and Dr. H. Van Der Merwe, nurses Jeanette, Justin, Jodi and Kim and social worker Kerry, and the many staff members who have aided him during his stays in the hospital. Florence Mryglod
Florence Mryglod, late of Weyburn, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Florence was predeceased by her parents: Hugh and Kate Kennedy; her husband, Bill; four sisters: Laura Kirk, Wilda Kells, Joyce Kennedy and Sharon Bailey; three brothers: Garth, Hugh and Norman Kennedy. Florence is survived by her children: Patty Mryglod, Weyburn, Cheryl (Ted) Mahoney, Weyburn, Laura (Rod) Nieviadomy, Weyburn, Garth (Donna) Mryglod, Carlyle, and Kevin (Sandra) Mryglod, Weyburn; 15 grandchildren: Keelan Gallagher (Ashley Bloor) and James Gallagher, Kristin, (Tyson) Balog and their children, Sutter and Katherine, Teddy Paul and Katy Anne Mahoney, Nathan Nieviadomy (Rochelle Phe) and Kaley Nieviadomy, Kenna Mryglod (Tom Tuki) and their daughter, Sachi and Alica, Robin and Joel Mryglod, Travis, Brad, Tyler and Kyle Mryglod; a sister, Joan (Darrel) Dick, Regina; a special friend, Agnes Nieviadomy, Weyburn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Florence Kennedy was born in Tisdale, and was raised in a loving household of nine children. Her father was a section master for the CP Railway and the family shifted through numerous locations in Saskatchewan. Florence enlisted in the Armed Services and served in an administrative role from 1943 to 1945. After the war, the family moved to Weyburn where Florence met and married William Mryglod. The couple had five children and Florence was kept very busy in her role as a wife and mother and also managed to juggle "doing the books" her husband's business. Florence functioned as a volunteer for countless organizations but was particularly devoted to the United Church and its various activities and groups. Florence was a storybook mother, grandmother and great grandmother. When Bill passed away in 2006 she moved into Hilltop Manor. Despite her struggles with the effects of Alzheimer's disease she continued to charm all she met there. She was a patient, kind and loving woman and will be missed by all. The Service of Remembrance for Florence was held on Saturday, February 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Church, Weyburn, with Rev. Mohandas Barnabas officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Veron Joseph Sharpe
Veron Joseph Sharpe of Fillmore, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at the age of 96 years. Veron was born on January 9, 1912 and grew up on the family homestead north of Glenavon. He attended Wolfe Creek country school and farmed with his dad until he wed Susan Vipond in 1947. Veron and Susan lived in Glenavon, then in the early 1950's moved to Fillmore where, with the exception of living one year in Regina, they farmed until 1973 when allergies forced a move off the farm into the town of Fillmore. Veron pursued other occupations including house construction and carpentry until Susan's passing in 1981, then assisted extended family with farming. Veron met Mavis McKague and they were married in 1991. Veron and Mavis moved to Weyburn, and upon Mavis' passing in 1998, Veron continued to live there. In 2005, Veron's health necessitated his move to the Fillmore Health Centre where he resided until his passing. Veron played an active role in the community and was very involved with the Fillmore Church Board over the years. His love for music and dancing began in his youth and remained a passion throughout his life. He was an avid dancer and frequented many square-dances near and far for many years. Veron enjoyed travelling, meeting people, and gardening. Veron touched many people's lives and will be fondly remembered for his kind and gentle nature, his compassionate and caring ways, and his willingness to lend a helping hand with a quick smile and sense of humor. Veron was predeceased by his father Joseph William Sharpe, mother Ellen Tebby, brother James, infant sister, Elsie Ellen; loving wife Susan Jane, four sisters-in-law, Mary Jane and Sarah Jane Vipond and two in infancy, three brothers-in-law William, John, and Thomas Vipond; and loving wife Mavis Noreen. He is survived by sister-in-law Roberta Sharpe, Calgary, AB, and family; brother Harry (Edith) Sharpe, Regina and family; sister-in-law Reta Vipond, Glenavon and family; stepson Art (Liz) McKague, Ogema and family; stepdaughter Sharon McCormick, Kelowna, B.C and family. A celebration of Veron's life was held at Grace United Church, Fillmore, on Friday, February 15, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Heather Lea officiating. Interment followed in Moffat Cemetery. Doris Marie Johnstone
Doris Marie Johnstone, late of Weyburn, passed away peacefully at the Special Care Home in Weyburn on Friday, February 8, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm Johnstone, her parents, Chester and Sarah (Sadie) Collins, and her brother, Boyce Collins. Doris is survived by her two sons, Keith (Janice) and Warren (Adeline); grandchildren, Charla (Darren) Moore and their children (Shayla and Kaylan; Kevin (Gail) and their son, Kervens; Mark, Chad, Lisa and Devin (Leah); step-grandchildren, Shaun and Trevor Mus; her sister, Lois Howlett and sisters-in-law, Jean Jones and Reggie Collins; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The fFuneral service for Doris was held at the Church of Christ, Yellow Grass, on Thursday, February 14, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Merrill Nicholson Officiating. The active pallbearers were Charles Moore, Mark Johnstone, Lisa Johnstone, Shaun Mus, Kevin Johnstone, Chad Johnstone, Devin Johnstone and Trevor Mus. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Interment at Yellow Grass Cemetery preceded the funeral service.
