DeLEEUW -- Albert DeLeeuw passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on December 21, 1997 at the age of 73 years. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl DeLeeuw; two grandchildren, Joseph and Jamie DeLeeuw of Calgary; brothers, Art (Elenor) of Drumheller, ay (Violet) of Chase, B.C., Frank and Marcel (Alice) of Vernon, B.C., Fred of Enderby, B.C.; a sister Odel (Leroy) Ogi; sister-in-law Alvina DeLeeuw of Vernon, B.C.; and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his dearest friend and companion Margaret Kampel. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother John. Albert was born in Kamloops, B.C. on January 26, 1924. He joined the P.P.C.L.I. in 1943, spending much of his military career overseas. After his discharge, he became a constable with the CPR Police in Calgary, retiring in 1984. Albert enjoyed the outdoors, trapping, fishing and hunting. He was a member in good standing of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years. He was an avid square dancer for fifteen years with the Swinging Singles and Single Eights clubs and will be remembered for his willingness to help the beginner dancers as a "square angel", and as having travelled to many camp-outs and conventions all over Alberta, B.C., Alaska and the U.S. in his "big yellow school bus". DONALDSON -- Mr. Gordon Leon Donaldson passed away peacefully, December 26, 1997, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 67. Gordon was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on November 1, 1930 and was raised in the town of Claresholm.He obtained a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1952 and began his career as a Project Engineer involved with highway planning and construction in the province upon graduation. He went on to become a Senior Planner with the City of Calgary for several years before establishing a private land development consulting practice. During the last twenty years he continued to be active on a semi-retired basis in land development and real estate investing. Gordon was a deeply religious and charitable man with a special passion for the poor and the religiously persecuted. That personal ministry began in his home church where he started taking children to Sunday School in his Volkswagon bus and it eventually took on international proportions through the Gordon Donaldson Missionary Foundation to countries like India, Hungary, Romania, China, Estonia, the Ukraine and finally the former Russia. He packed shoe boxes with dry goods to send to African children for ten years, continuing that work up until only a few weeks ago. His compassion and generosity also involved an executive position with International Russian Radio and Television, an organization that transmits Russian language radio and television gospel programs it produces in Finland over several international radio stations into the former Soviet Union. His desire was to have the whole world know Jesus died for them and loves them. His loving memory will be cherished by his wife of forty-six years Marie (Osinchuk); four sons, Jim (and his special friend Zoe), Gerry (Janelle), Rob (Sharon) and Tim (Cindy); seven grandchildren, Jodi, Alanna, Nicole, Matthew, Rena, Austin and Carter; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ethan and Mackenzie; and a brother Terry (Barbara) of Comox, BC. He was predeceased by a son Andrew, a sister Doris, and by his parents, Martha and Ken. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 1997 at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 3220 - 4 Street N.W. at 12:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the caring nurses in Unit 43 and to Drs. Braun and Herman at the Peter Lougheed Centre as well as the dedicated nurses in Unit 71 and Dr. Williams at the Rockyview Hospital. Very special thanks are extended to Home Care Nurse Pam Brown. DUFFY -- Thomas (Tom) Duffy, beloved husband of Norma and beloved father of Deborah, Michael and Kevin, passed away at his home on Monday, December 29, 1997 after a brief, courageous battle with cancer at the age of 55 years. Tom will be greatly missd by his family and friends in Calgary, Edinburgh, Scotland and Newcastle, England. EVANS -- Gerald Roy (Gerry) Evans, beloved husband, father and friend, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 30, 1997, at the age of 72 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Laura and Leonard Evans, first wife Betty Beaumont, second wife Dona elle Evans (nee Dwigans) in 1971, and son Rexford John Evans in 1968. Gerry is survived by his wife Claire Evans; brother Walter Evans (Vivian) of Victoria, BC; daughters, Sharon Evans of Toronto, Peggy Henderson of Etobicoke, ON, Gillian Evans (Paul Fry) of Calgary, and Heather Johnson (Derrick) of Port Moody, BC; stepdaughters, Kerry White-Tucker (Ron Tucker) of Calgary, and Jennifer White of Vancouver; stepson Greg White (Karen Mackie) of Calgary; grandchildren, Blair and Jason Henderson of Etobicoke, ON, Jessica and Hannah Johnson of Port Moody, BC; and stepgrandchildren, Rebecca and Samuel Tucker of Calgary. Born in Saskatoon in 1925, Gerry completed Senior Matriculation at Bedford Road Collegiate in June, 1943. He immediately joined the Royal Canadian Navy, where he served until 1945. He became a journeyman electrician in 1947, running his own electrical and outboard marine business until 1952 when he went to Juno, Alaska to work in the C.M.S. Mine. Gerry returned to Saskatoon to form an electrical contracting firm which was responsible for the electrical portion of all the major gas installations in the city of Saskatoon. In 1958, Gerry received his registered hunting and fishing guide's license, which began his life-long love affair with the North Country, particularly LaRonge, Saskatchewan. Gerry moved to Calgary in 1959, where he became a representative for the Electrical Services League of Alberta, while working as a journeyman electrician. He later worked for Federal Pacific Electric Equipment Manufacturers, until 1966, when he transferred to Pyle National Electrical Manufacturing, where he remained while completing the Academic Business Diploma Program at Mount Royal College, where he was awarded the Birks Medal for highest grade point average for 1968-1969. In order to raise two young daughters and care for his terminally ill wife, Dona, Gerry entered and completed in 1973, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. He taught at James Short Memorial Elementary School until 1976, when he began teaching in the Math and Physics Department at S.A.I.T. for the next ten years. Gerry completed his Master of Arts in Applied Behavioral Science from L.I.O.S. in 1986, and given his keen interest in step families, was instrumental in starting S.O.S. (Society of Step-families). In 1997 he earned his Doctoral Degree in Philosophy and Health and Human Sciences from Columbia Pacific University, San Francisco, CA. Gerry died as he had lived, surrounded by the love, admiration and respect of his family and friends. He will be cremated, and in the spring, Gerry's ashes will be returned to the North Country, which he loved so deeply. A Memorial Service will be held at Parkdale United Church, 2919 - 8 Avenue N.W., on Saturday, January 3, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jan Craig officiating. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Home Care, especially Michelle and Fern; Dr. Ken Cody and Rev. Jan Craig. FARQUHARSON -- Vernetta Farquharson (nee Grasswick), a native Calgarian, passed away on Monday, December 29, 1997 after a valiant struggle with cancer at the age of 75. Vernetta was much loved by her best friend and husband of forty-nine years, Roy. he will be fondly remembered for her strength, courage and love by Roy and their children, Susan, James (Roxie), Janet (Dane), Bruce (Gail), Heather (Rob) and Ian (Dollie). She will be forever cherished by her ten grandchildren, Meaghan and Kelsey Farquharson, Dionne, O'Rhane, Ashton and Dalton Griffiths, Caitlin Farquharson, and Fulton, Keven and Stephanie Blencowe; as well as brothers and sisters, Rhoda, Jim, Margit, Donna and Hugh. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Agape Manor, Dr. John Milne, and Rev. John Griffiths. FRANKLIN -- Mr. John Henry Franklin, December 27, 1925 to December 28, 1997. It is with sadness that Kevin and Lorne Franklin announce the sudden passing of their father John. John was predeceased by his wife Ruth in 1994. He will be greatly missed b Kevin and Laurel, Lorne and Shelley; his two grandchildren, Jamie and Tawnya; and his sister Bernice. John was one of the nicest persons you could ever hope to meet. Born in Calgary, he grew up during the Depression, served aboard Corvetts in the North Atlantic in World War II, became a respected Geologist who helped open up oil fields across Western Canada in the 1950's, changed careers to become a superior teacher who loved and was loved by his "kids", and most recently was passionately involved in politics. He was a great dad, husband, brother, grandfather and friend. At John's request their will be no Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite school would be most appreciated.

GIBSON -- Christina (nee McGregor) of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on Monday, December 29, 1997 at the age of 57 years. Christina was born on November 6, 1940 in Glasgow, Scotland. Christina is survived by her husband of hirty-eight years, William; her children, Mary, John, Deborah, Kenneth and Catherine; her two brothers, William and Thomas; as well as six grandchildren, Hollie, Christopher, Matthew, Miles, Nicholas and Jackson; and her beloved families in Calgary and Montreal. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 2 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 703 Heritage Drive S.W., Calgary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children's Wish Foundation.

HARRISON -- Douglas Mark Harrison passed away in a motor vehicle accident near Lake Louise, Alberta on December 27, 1997, at the age of 36 years. Born and raised in Calgary, Doug graduated from Central Memorial High School and earned his Bachelor of cience degree in Engineering at the University of Calgary in 1983. He worked at Shell Canada Limited for eleven years. Doug was an avid sportsman and loved his family dearly. He will be sadly missed by his wife Arlene; his children, Sam, Christine and Jennifer; his parents, Lorin and Donna Harrison, Frieda Hunter (Ron), Richard Hunter (Ruth); brother Gary (Debbie); sister Linda Brown (Jim), and Elton Hunter (Debbie), Dr. Allen Hunter (Susan) and Gwen Hansen (Kevin). A public Funeral Service will be held at a later date for friends and family. HENNESSY -- Albert Vincent (Bert) - President of A.V. Hennessy Associates Ltd., former Vice President of Research - Cottrell Canada Ltd. and Works Manager of John Inglis Co. - peacefully at his home in Toronto, on Monday, December 29, 1997 at age 81.Loving husband of Amy (nee Sims) and beloved father of Carol. Respected by all, Bert will be missed by friends and colleagues. He was a loyal member of the Salvation Army (Calgary, Earlscourt, Etobicoke, Hamilton and St. Catharines). Friends wil be received on Saturday, January 3, 1998 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the complete Service of Remembrance and Committal at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the R.S. KANE FUNERAL HOME (6150 Yonge Street at Goulding South of Steeles). HILL -- Robert Dunsmore (Bob) Hill, born March 28, 1922 at Nanaimo, B.C., passed away at the Foothills Hospital December 27, 1997. Funeral Services will be held at Centre Street Evangelical Church (4120 Centre Street North), on Wednesday, December 31 1997 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Queen's Park Cemetery. JANZ -- Erna Martha (Lange) Janz went peacefully to meet her Lord and Savior at Calgary on December 29, 1997 at the age of 91 years. Erna was born at Kolm-Schnecken, Germany and immigrated to Canada in 1951. Since January 1992, she has been a residen of the Extendicare Cedars Villa. Left to mourn her passing, but grateful that her suffering is over, are her six sons, Helmut (Martha), Artur (Erika), Kurt (Ruth), Alfred (Ingrid), Henry (Ellie), all of Calgary, and Gerhard (Esther) of Cremona, AB; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren; one brother Kurt in Germany; nephews, nieces and many friends. Erna was predeceased by her husband of more than fifty-three years Bernhard, seven sisters, two brothers, an infant son and an infant great-granddaughter. Although she is no longer with us, her family will always gratefully and lovingly remember her devotion to the Lord, her concern for her family, neighbors and friends, her sincerely warm smile, her love of music, and her example of finding joy in the work she did. Funeral Services will be held at First Mennonite Church (2600 Richmond Road S.W.), on Friday, January 2, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Ken Bechtel and Rev. Jacob Wiebe officiating. KRISTENSEN -- Knud (Ken), of Calgary, passed away peacefully in the early morning of December 30, 1997, at the age of 72 years, after a lengthy struggle with the ravages of Alzheimers. Ken is survived and will always be remembered by his loving and dvoted wife of forty-seven years Mrs. Erna Kristensen; his son Jan (Dorothy) Kristensen; and grandchildren, Evan and Dayna Kristensen. He was predeceased by a son Terry in 1981. Knud and Erna arrived in Canada in 1952 from their native Denmark and have lived in the Calgary area since 1953. Ken was retired after more than twenty-five years working at the U of C. He will always be remembered for his active life which revolved around his love of children, sports and animals. He coached and began the first minor soccer program in North Calgary and served for six years as sports director of Renfrew Community in the sixties. His love of animals and especially horses led to an active hobby of providing riding instruction and boarding to many from the Calgary and Okotoks area. Ken was extremely active as a horse show senior judge and official throughout Western Canada. He participated in the selections for the Olympics in three-day eventing and dressage. Funeral Services to be conducted by Pastor Art Berg at Peace Lutheran Church, 14640 - 6 Street S.W., on Friday, January 2, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. Interment at Union Cemetery, Okotoks. Reception to follow. LAKATOS -- Mari Lakatos passed away at the Bethany Care Centre, Cochrane, Alberta on Sunday, December 28, 1997 at the age of 88 years. Mari is survived by one daughter Ethel (John) Horvath of Cremona, Alberta; four grandchildren, Ilona, Ray (Cheryl),Glen (Carolyn), and Gaylynn (Ron); four great-grandchildren, Troy, Travis, Miranda and Jared. She was predeceased by her husband Louis in 1986 and a daughter Rose in 1991. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter (P.O. OTTAWAY -- Lawrence Eric Ottaway. June 3, 1953 - December 25, 1997 It is with the greatest sorrow Katie, Rhys and Megan announce the sudden passing, at home, of our beloved Daddy and husband, Larry, on Christmas Day, 1997. Larry worshipped his wife Mgan of twelve years and their two young children. Everything in Larry's life revolved around his family. Larry will be remembered by all as a loving, devoted father and husband. He brightened the lives of many with his jovial wit, laughter and boundless generosity. He will be deeply missed by all his "buddies" here in Calgary and back East. Larry was the loving son of Ann and Clive Ottaway of Hamilton, Ont. A handsome baby boy they would raise into a strong man with a truly unique and generous nature. They were proud to say he was their son. Mom and Dad's loss is severe. He is also survived by his sister Patricia (Rod) who always played the part of mother hen to him and his twin brothers, Robert (Angela) and Richard (Cindy), who on the most part looked up to their big brother. Larry's family is all from the Hamilton area. He was an uncle, playmate and friend to his nieces and nephews, Maggie, Graham, Alun, Lakme and Madeline, and he will be lovingly embraced by Poppa in heaven. Larry was a member of Temple Lodge 6Rc 296 AF & AM with his late father-in-law Bob Jones. A Celebration of Larry's Life for Katie and Rhys will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Friday, January 2, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. In accordance with Larry's wishes, Cremation will follow. Flowers graciously declined, but appreciated by the family would be memorial donations directed to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta (1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 3Y6). The family would like to thank the quick response of the Emergency Medical Services here in the city of Calgary. Also, Medical Examiner Pat Brune for her professionalism, comfort and advice. "Rest in peace my love. Thank you for being the biggest part of my life for the past twelve years. I love you Larry more than anyone could ever imagine. Remember we're soul mates, 'Stay with me'." "Daddy died of a heart attack, I'll sure miss him, he'll always be with us."
