HASHIMOTO - Shizue passed away April 5th, 2000, age 79 years. Survived by her husband Masuo; sister-in-law Haruye Hori; brothers Eddie (Kay) Hori, Miki (Jan) Hori; sister Terry (Mas) Tasaka; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their appreciation and thanks to Dr. Nam Nguyen, Dr. Peter Quelch and the entire palliative care staff at Richmond Hospital for their compassion and support. Funeral Service to be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 10th, 2000 at the Steveston Buddhist Temple, 4360 Garry St., Richmond, B.C. Cremation services to follow, Rev. Izumi officiating. HERRON - P. Brian, born November 6th, 1929, passed away on April 4th, 2000. Survived by loving wife Eleanor, sons, John (Pat), Michael (Sheree), daughters, Marilyn, Frances, Margaret (Jim) and Jean; 13 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by brother Jack, sister Margaret and twin brother Bob. Prayers Friday, April 7th, 7:30 p.m. at St. Monica's Church, 12011 Woodhead Rd., East Richmond, Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8th. HUGHES - Gwilym Thomas John. P. Eng, M.I.C.E., F.E.I.C.. At the Richmond General Hospital on Sunday, April 2, 2000, Gwil, as he was known to all who loved him, died peacefully, in his 81st year, with his beloved Eileen at his bedside. Gwil will be remembered with love by his daughter, Jill Telford of Nanaimo; his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Rick Swadden, of Gibsons; his daughter, Sally Walker, of Richmond; his son and daughter-in-law, Gareth and Lisa Hughes, of Ladner; his son and daughter-in-law Trevor and Julie Hughes, of Ladner; and the 11 grandchildren who brought him so much joy. Gwil will be sadly missed by friends and relations the world over with whom he worked so hard to keep in touch and to whom he gave so much. Gwil lived his life to the fullest and was rewarded with love, friendship, joy, and contentment. In memory of Gwil, there will be an eisteddfod and bocce tournament in his garden in Castlegar on September 2, 2000. All friends are welcome. Donations would be welcome to the Palliative Care Ward of the Richmond General Hospital, to which the family is grateful.

KENT - Frances C. December 9, 1902 - April5th, 2000, late of Canada Way Care Centre, Burnaby. As a little girl Frances came from her birthplace of Manchester, England to reside in the Collingwood area of Vancouver. She attended Carleton Elementary School, worked briefly during the First World War then married Herbert Kent, a WWI Veteran who was also of the Collingwood area. The couple built a home on East 29th Avenue where they raised their family. Frances resided in that home for almost 70 years. In her late eighties, Frances moved to Canada Way Lodge and five years later when her health began to deteriorate she transferred to Canada Way Care Centre. Frances was predeceased by her husband Bert; her son Robert and her eldest son Alfred. She is survived by and remembered with love, daughter-in-law Isabel Kent of Langley; five grandsons; three granddaughters and several great grandchildren. Also survived by a brother in England, two nieces and a nephew and their respective families. A Family Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 8th, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Burnaby. LAKE - Lt. Colonel, P.Eng. George W., born January 2, 1917 passed away peacefully on March 31, 2000 having celebrated his diamond wedding anniversary of 60 years with his beloved wife and cherished partner Katherine E. M. Lake (Weatherwax). George was a graduate of Royal Military College in 1938 having obtained his degree in Civil Engineering after which he joined the R.C.O.C. of the Canadian Armed Forces. George distinguished himself as a veteran of WW II having served five years overseas. George had been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion since 1946. He had several careers in his life: working for the B.C. government Water Wrights Branch and municipal engineer for the City of Richmond B.C. As a consulting engineer with C.B.A. Engineering George was prominent in the building of the Port-Mann Bridge over the Fraser River. George moved to Ottawa in 1968 and joined the federal government working for CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) and was in charge of the department of transport in consultation for the infrastructure of roadways, bridges and airports of the third world english speaking countries for 16 years. George was a lifetime member of the Canadian Association of Engineers, The Professional Association of B.C. Engineers and a member of the American Association of Engineers. George is survived by his loving wife Katherine; 5 children, Bill, Marilyn (Brian), Andrea (Michael), Dorothy (Chris), Kathy (Bill); 10 grandchildren and his two sisters Darleen Bunker of Port Coquitlam, B.C. and Winnifred Marples of Prince George, B.C. Predeceased by his brother Gordon Lake of Penticton, B.C. Memories of George will be cherished by his loved ones, friends and associates.

LASKIE - James Alan passed away suddenly on March 31st, 2000, at the age of 67 years. Born in Dundee, Scotland. He is survived by his loving wife Mary (Polly) Baillie; children Barbara (Ron) Sturrock, Doug (Caroline) Laskie, Linda Laskie, Edna (Steve) Lizotte, Dave (Marnie) Laskie; sister Elizabeth (David) McIntosh in Kinross, Scotland; extended family, Sandy (Joanne) Baillie, Donald (Betty) Baillie, Margaret (Andre) Rotering, as well as his many grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins in Scotland. Alan served in the Royal Air Force and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #133, Port Coquitlam. He retired as a conductor with the Canadian Pacific Railway. No service at Alan's request. Flowers gratefully declined. Cremation.

LORENZ - Sophie Elizabeth (Kaufhold), passed away April 1, 2000 at age 83. Predeceased by her husband Michael William Lorenz, she will be lovingly remembered by her sons Floyd (Brenda), Leroy (Hilda), Wayne (Unni); daughter Stacey Anderson (Brian); and 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Walter and Frank; sisters Mary, Rose, Margaret, Marlene and Darlene; many nieces and nephews. Born September 21, 1916 at Balcarres, Saskatchewan, she was the eldest daughter of 11 children of Peter and Anne Kaufhold. Sophie and Mike and 3 sons moved to Vancouver in 1942, and were longtime residents of North Vancouver and later White Rock (Surrey). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Church, 2250 150th St., Surrey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1212 W. Broadway, Vancouver, B.C., V5H 3V2.

MADDIN - Charles passed away suddenly at St. Paul's Hospital on Wednesday, April 5, 2000, age 84. He was a loving husband, son, father, brother, and friend, and will be sorely missed. Survived by his beloved wife Dilys; son Hugh; daughter Mary; son-in-law Andrew, and two grandchildren, Leigh and Peter. Born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, February 4, 1916; brought up in the Okanagan. Attended UBC; served his country valiantly in the R.C.A.F. and became a P.O.W. in 1944. He settled his family in West Vancouver where he made lifelong friends and was one of the founders of St. David's United Church. He was a renowned Canadian authority on the Geology of British Columbia, successful business man, and an early environmentalist with a particular love of birds. He will be remembered for his indomitable spirit, his vast general knowledge, and his wry sense of humour. Memorial service will be held at St. David's United Church, West Vancouver, Saturday, April 8, 2000 at 1pm. A donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Yukon and B.C. would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

McGREGOR - Dr. (Norval) Roy. Born August 20, 1918 in Toronto, passed away April 1, 2000 after a short battle with cancer. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Doreen; his sons, John (Sylvia), Allan (Cathy), Mike (Bonnie), Andrew (Sue) and daughter, Barb (Bob) Hayter; 11 grandchildren and one great grandson. Roy is survived by his sister, Marion Friesen and brothers, Duncan and Ian. He served as an RCAF navigator in WWII and was a successful evader in northern France. After the war, Roy attended Western University and graduated as a physician in 1950. He remained in the RCAF as a medical officer until 1958 when he joined the staff at Essondale. In 1964, he went into private practice in North Vancouver. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

MUNRO - Margaret Ellen (nee Wheatley) born August 1, 1916, passed away peacefully in North Vancouver, B.C. on April 2, 2000. Predecease by her husband Jim, son Jimmy and brother Leonard, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children Diane (Gary), Judy (Kent), John (Cathy), grandchildren Stephen, Christine, Geoff, Megan, Julie, Carley, Amy; her nephews Jim Wheatley (Marg), Rod Wheatley (Shirley) and their families. A long time resident of North Vancouver, Margaret loved life. She was truly a brave and heroic lady but never faltered. The raising of her children always came first and her love and support was unconditional, her warmth, kindness and sincerity unmatched. After working at Woodwards for many years, Margaret enjoyed her retirement years travelling and spending time with her friends from Woodwards and Silver Harbour Centre. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Dr. James Bovard for the wonderful care he gave Mom over the last few years. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at Highlands United Church, 3255 Edgemont Blvd. North Vancouver on Monday, April 10, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
