Weisbrodt, Walter (Wally)
Walter H. ( Wally ) Weisbrodt passed away at the age of 84 years at his Erickson residence on August 23rd, 2011 with family by his side, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Wally was born to Augusta and Jacob Weisbrodt on September 13th, 1926 at Regina, Saskatchewan, where he received his formal education.
Wally married Josephine Tokevich in Regina in 1947 and the couple opened a burger and fries cafe in Regina. After they moved to Calgary, Wally was employed with Canada Post as a letter carrier for about 15 years. Together Wally and Josephine raised four children and in 1987 they moved to Creston, where they retired on their five acre orchard. They attended the Creston Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his wife Josephine, two brothers Bill and Eric and sister Elsie. Wally will be dearly missed by his four children, thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren and sister Ruth.
The funeral service was held on Saturday August 27th, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Creston Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Atmore officiating. A private family interment took place at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC on Monday August 29th, 2011.

Bea Ryckman (nee Embree) passed away June 29,2011 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary AB at the age of 80 years after a short illness, with family by her side.
Bea Ryckman (nee Embree) passed away June 29,2011 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary AB at the age of 80 years after a short illness, with family by her side.
Bea was born January 14, 1931 in Cranbrook, BC. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Jennie Embree and the oldest of five siblings. Her elementary years were spent in Wardner BC. After the passing of her father, they moved to Creston where she attended and graduated from Creston Valley High. This is where she met Fred Ryckman and the two were married June 18, 1955. They had two sons, Bill born in Kimberley and Jim born in Creston.
Bea showed great love for her husband and two sons and adored her grandchildren. She enjoyed many friends, going to her "Class of 49" luncheons which were always a highlight of the month and coffee with the girls at Rotacrest Hall. She loved her extended telephone conversations with her family and friends. Her exceptional strength, courage and uncanny humour always showed.
Bea enjoyed her work at the Creston Review, Kimberley News and Creston Valley Advance. Having Bea as your tour guide at the Creston Museum was great fun. Bea enjoyed her 5 pin bowling as well. At home she always enjoyed crocheting, and was a puzzle book fan.
Bea was predeceased by her husband Fred Ryckman (2009) and her parents Benjamin and Jennie Embree and brother-in-law Robert Audette, all forever and always lovingly remembered.
For all who knew Bea, you know there will only be "One Bea", that uncanny humour, that quick wit, her heart of gold with a splash of stubborn Swede. Her strength of character and free soul lives on with her sons and grandchildren.
She will always and forever be lovingly remembered by her sons, Bill (Jackie), Jim (Jacquie-Anne), grandchildren Gillian, Dione, Jordan, Marielle, Jenna and MacIntosh, sister Pat Audette, brother Dale (Emily) Embree, sister Carol Currie, sister Alice-Faye (Jim) Lines and sister-in-law Phyllis Ryckman, as well as many nieces, nephews and family.
Bea has given so much in many special ways, taking time to talk or give a helping hand. Her thoughtfulness and love will be dearly treasured and forever in our hearts. She will be missed by all near and far and by many friends and family.
Our family would like to extend our utmost gratitude and love to all in Calgary who were there for Bea.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on
Monday July 11,2011 at 2 p.m. at
Trinity United Church
with Pastor Harry Haberstock officiating.
A private Family Interment of Ashes to take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery prior to the Service.

Lydia Anna Maria Hickl (nee Hennings)
Born in Ratzlingen, Germany on April 17 1930
Passed away in Creston, BC on June 10, 2011
She will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 61 years, Gustav; sone Wolfgang (Sandra); daughter Barbara (Michael); brother Ewald (Helga); grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dollard Alphonse Amédée Breault
May 8, 1916 – June 24, 2011
Dollard began his next journey knowing how much he was appreciated by his family, his church and
his community. He died peacefully and painlessly a few weeks after his 95th birthday at Crest View Care Village.
Dollard was born in Val Racine, Quebec, the first-born of seven children. He was a farm boy and had little opportunity to attend school. During the Depression, in order to support himself and to send home money to his family, he rode the rails finding work as a farm hand on the Prairies. Eventually ending up in BC, he worked as a miner in northern BC and the Yukon and then as a welder in Vancouver during the war effort. It was in Vancouver where he met his future wife, Margaret O’Rourke, and embarked on his trade as journeyman carpenter. In 1961 he moved his family to Creston and began Breault Construction. Many a carpenter in Creston served their apprenticeship with him building residential homes and larger projects including the Creston Wildlife Centre, the Rykert’s Border crossing, the Mormon Church, the Town of Creston Sewage Plant and reservoir, the Alfalfa Dehydration Plant. Tradespeople knew him as a hard worker and valued his skills and fairness.
He was a man who was admired and respected by all who knew him. Even in his dying, he will be remembered for his strength of character, his integrity and resilience. Dollard’s independence and determination were supported by the compassionate staff of Crest View Care Village.
Dollard was predeceased by his wife Margaret, and his son, Ron. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Linda Breault and son, Gary, his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and his sister Yvonne Ruel of Quebec, brother Adrien of Comox, B.C.
Prayers were held Monday, June 27 at 7:00 pm at the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, June 28 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church with Father Tom Kakkaniyil celebrant. Interment followed in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Creston Valley Hospice Society whose volunteers were so supportive in the last week of his living – P. O. Box 436, Creston, BC, V0B 1G0.
Van Ruyskensvelde, Dale
Dale Van Ruyskensvelde passed away September 13, 2011 after a long battle with cancer in Crawford Bay, BC at the age of 74 years.
Dale was born to parents Gladys and Oscar on October 17, 1936 in Swift Current, SK.
Dale married Lorraine on September 1, 1962 in Crawford Bay, BC.
Dale was a truck driver by trade but in his spare time he enjoyed numerous outdoor activities. Some of which included fishing, hunting, gardening, getting firewood and picking huckleberries.
Dale was predeceased by his parents Gladys and Oscar Roger Van Ruyskensvelde.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lorraine; daughter Cynthia; sons Allan, Bretty (Christy) and Todd (Kelly); brother Melvin and grandchildren Marissa, Zachery, Jacob, Erich, Kent, Adina, Travis, Neva and Cody.
A Celebration of Life gathering to be held at a later date.
MARY ISABEL MESSINGER (nee Ross)
November 21st, 1919 - September 6th, 2011
Mary Messinger passed away on September 6th with her family by her side. She will always be remembered for her graciousness, strength, love and devotion to her family. Mary was born in Creston November 21st, 1919 to Thomas and Maude Ross. She was a granddaughter of William and Jane Huscroft pioneers of the Creston Valley. She received her education in Huscroft and Creston.
Her first job was at a bakery on the Creston main street where Panago’s is today. She later worked in her uncle’s Mercantile store where Creston Bakery is now located. She often commented on the hitching poles at the front of the Merc for tying horse drawn wagons to. During WWII to traveled east to London, Ontario to work. Returning to Creston she married Charles Lane Messinger, December 27th, 1945.
Early on Mary was a home maker for her large family. Her energy seemed endless as she kept a large garden, milked cows, sewed and knitted clothes and cooked meals. There was always room for one more visiting friend at her dinner table. As the children grew older Mary worked at Gordon Alger’s shoe store and in 1968 joined Lane in the operation of the Shell wholesale fuel business. In 1972 after Lane’s sudden death, Mary became the first female Shell agent in Canada. In 1973 she sold the business to her son Casey and continued to do the company books until her retirement in 1981.
Mary led an active life. An avid gardener and reader, excellent bridge player and competitive swimmer in the BC Senior Games. She knitted and sewed clothes for her children and grand children. A member of many community groups; Presbyterian Ladies, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, a Library and Museum volunteer. Her abiding passion was travel. She took trips to Europe, Japan, Thailand, China, Australia, Costa Rica and throughout the USA. She particularly enjoyed her many trips to Mexico with her sister-in-law, Betty Ross and her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Johnny Salvador.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Maude and Thomas Ross, husband Lane, and her siblings; Jack, Maude, Jane, Thomas, Bruce, Betty and Corita. She is survived by her daughters; Judith Harringa, Shelley (Denis) Hellard, Renee (Michael) Maddess, Brenda (Philip) MacDonald, Kim (Gerard) Santucci, Gillian Messinger; by her son Charles (Charlotte) Messinger; 13 grandchildren; Katheryn, Mark, Casey, Kayleen, Matthew, Amy, Brent, Darin, Chelsea, Sarah, Leah, Kelsey and Charlie; 7 great grandchildren; Christina, John, EveLena, Maria, Lane, Maeve and Adelyn.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Marie Edwards at Lilac House for her loving care of our mother, Dr. Sidney Kettner and later Dr. Daile Hoffman, and the Creston Valley Hospital nursing staff.
