PEACOCK, Ethel Rose. Born in England, August 17th 1921, passed away peacefully in her home with her family at her side December 10th, 2003. Predeceased by her loving husband Eric. Survived by her daughter Ann (Gordon) of St. Albert, Ab; son Bryan (Susan) of Edmonton, Ab and 4 beloved grandchildren, Karen, Kevin, Caitlin and Claire. She will be lovingly remembered by many friends and relatives in Canada and England. Memorial Service will be held at St. Philip's Anglican Church, 3737 West 27th Ave., Vancouver on Wednesday December 17 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Philips Anglican Church or Canadian Cancer Society.

POELVOORD, Robert (Bob) Victor, April 17, 1918 - December 11, 2003, died suddenly at his home in Surrey. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Marcelle, his sons; Henri (Juanita), Marc, Rob (Kein), daughter; Laurette (Lee) and six grandchildren; Ashley, Tiffany, Paige, Douglas, Katie and David, brother; Albert (Jean) and sister; Mary. Born in Illinois, Bob served with the Canadian Armed Forces and later settled in Langley where he started his trucking business (Bob's Blower), and other ventures. Bob was a pioneer in the community of Langley. He served as an active member of the Rotary Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in the memory of Bob, to the War Amputees of Canada (604-451-3344). A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at Valley View Funeral Home, 14660 72nd Avenue, Surrey, BC. Reception to follow the service.

RASMUSSEN, Oda G. At 1:30 a.m., December 10th 2003, Oda slipped peacefully into the arms of God. Predeceased by her husband Hans Rasmussen, Oda will be dearly missed by her 6 children, Merete (Bruce), Annette (Kaj), Inge (Ole), Hans Henrik, Soren and Michael (Angelique). Oda also leaves behind 13 grandchildren Anthony (Judy), Deborah (Rob), Tina (John), Kurtis, Erik, Zackery, Collin, Lucas, Hans Peter (Gitte), Rikke (Peter), Anja (Thomas), Suzanne and Tina (Kurt). Oda, as well, had 10 great grandchildren: Madeline, Elise, Kennedy, Samantha, Christine, Sandra, Daniel, Emma, Julie and Matilda. Oda came to Canada from Denmark in 1956 and always cherished her Danish heritage. An active member of the Danish Lutheran church, Oda was a respected member of the choir for over 30 years. Afflicted by Alzheimer's 8 years ago, Oda never gave up her battle to live, her sharp sense of humour or her love of music. More than anything, Oda loved her family in Canada and Denmark The family wishes to extend our profound gratitude to the staff of Eagle Ridge Manor (Port Moody) who treated her with respect and unsurpassed loving-care. Without you she wouldn't have made it this far. Words simply do not do justice to our feelings of deep appreciation. Oda will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched. Memorial Service 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 16th, 2003, at the Danish Lutheran Church, 6010 Kincaid Street, Burnaby. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in lieu of to Eagle Ridge Manor or the Alzheimer's Society of BC.

RANCHOUX, Richard Armand, passed away at Vernon Hospice House on March 4, 2004. Aged 55 years. Survived by wife of 30 years, Donna, Vernon; son Jason (Jody), Kelowna; daughter Jamie (Bowen) Kenny, Surrey; granddaughter Kaitlyn; parents Armand and Evelyn, Clearbrook; sisters Joan (Albert) Howton of Aldergrove, and Rene Shipley of Washington, USA. RINDER, Donald Lee Born in Congress, Saskatchewan in 1927, Don passed away on February 25, 2004 at the home of his loving companion of six years, Babs Findlay. Predeceased by his wife Ella (nee Heinz), Don will be greatly missed by his sisters Dora (Cecil) Baldwin, Shelia (John) Wosnuk and Marguerite (John) Christian, his children Dona, Deb, Rick, grandchildren Thor (Bal), Corina, Roberta, and great-grandson, Sam. A resident of Burnaby for 50+ years, Don was a veteran of the Merchant Marines, an active unionist, steamfitter, founding member of the NDP and an avid sailor and traveller. No services or flowers by request. An informal gathering in Don's honour will be held aboard the Edgewater Fortune at 170 Front St., New Westminster (under the Skytrain bridge on the north side) on Sunday, March 14 between 13:30 and 16:30 hours. (1:30 - 4:30)

RUTLEDGE, Wendy Lynne, born May 31, 1935 in Vancouver, succumbed to her fight with cancer and passed away peacefully on March 2, 2004 in Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock. Wendy will be lovingly missed by husband Stan, sons Ross and Todd, daughter-in-laws Susan and Christine, grandchildren Connor and Nicklas and many family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831-2nd Ave, Surrey at 2:00 pm March 10. SAWATZKY, Eilian Ruby (1931-2004) was led to heaven by the angels on March 3, 2004. Our Sister, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother will be lovingly remembered by her family, and many friends. Eilian, will be remembered for her cheerful spirit, loving heart and warm generosity. We will all miss her quiet humor, quick wit and easy smile. She will forever remain in our-thoughts and hearts. A celebration of her life will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 14615-16th Avenue, White Rock on Saturday, March 13th, 2004 at 11:00am. A committal service will follow at Victory Memorial Park Cemetery, 14831-28th Avenue, Surrey at approximately 12:15 pm. SHANNON, It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Sampson Shannon (HSS) on February 25th, 2004 at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital after a courageous fight with cancer at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Vilma, seven loving children and spouses, 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his 5 sisters and 1 brother. Harry had a long railway career with BC Rail retiring in a supervisory position. His entrepreneurial endeavors included owning 2 yellow cabs in Vancouver, a restaurant in North Vancouver and a campground on Mara Lake. He will be best remembered for being a very loving family oriented soul. Harry was loved very much and will be missed by many. At Harry's request there will be no funeral.

SHERGOLD, Grace (nee Sale), age 90, born in North Vancouver, 09 September 1913 passed away peacefully 25 February 2004 at the German-Canadian Care Home where she received wonderful loving care for the past year. Predeceased by her husband Ernie in 1974 and by her parents Percy (from Lowestoft, England) and Ethel Sale (from Cardiff, Wales) and brothers Haward and Tom. She is survived by sisters Joyce and Bertha and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins throughout British Columbia and Nova Scotia, England and Wales. Grace's early love was St. Giles United Church where she was a Sunday school and choir member for many years. Her latest church and choir was Renfrew United on 1st Avenue. She also served for many years delivering "Meals on Wheels" to those in need in the East Vancouver area. Grace's kindness consideration and care for all she came in contact with, will be long remembered and appreciated. Cremation and no service at Grace's request. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice would be appreciated. Arrangements in care of First Memorial Services.

TERRY, Barbara Mary (nee Pilling). Born in Winnipeg, MB on February 15th, 1932, passed away on January 22nd, 2004 at Surrey, BC. Barbara was predeceased by her brother in 1997, she was survived by her niece and sister-in-law. No service by request. Cremation.

WADDINGTON, (Dworkin), Miriam, 86, of Vancouver, died March 3, 2004, at the Louis Brier Home and Hospital. Born in Winnipeg, she was the daughter of Isidore and Mussia Dworkin. She was a star of the Canadian literary scene, having published twelve books of poetry, the last five of which are Driving Home, The Price of Gold, The Visitants, Collected Poems, and The Last Landscape. In 2004, an excerpt from one of her poems was included on the new Bank of Canada $100 note. Her work has been published in over 200 anthologies and translated into several languages. Two of her books, Driving Home and Collected Poems, won the J.I. Segal prize in 1972 and 1986. She held a B.A. (Toronto), an M.S.W. (Pennsylvania), an M.A. (Toronto), and two D.Litt. (Lakehead, York) After an early career as a social worker in hospitals, prisons, and children's agencies, she accepted a faculty position in English literature at York University in Toronto. She retired from teaching at age 65, and was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus shortly thereafter. She is survived by her sons, Marcus and Jonathan Waddington; brother, Sol Dworkin; daughter-in-law, Paula Grossman; and grandsons, David, Aaron, and Gabriel. A memorial will be held at 5:00 PM, on Saturday, March 13th, at the U.B.C. Faculty Club (Sage Bistro), 6331 Crescent Road, Vancouver, B.C.

WASOWICZ, Jan (John) Born April 19, 1907, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2004, at age 96. Survived by his loving wife and soul-mate Casimira; daughter Irene; four grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. John immigrated to Canada from Poland following his military service in WWII and was a long time resident of New Westminster. He enjoyed the last few years of his life living near family in Sicamous, B.C.. John was a true gentleman, lifelong violinist, outdoor enthusiast and will be fondly remembered by his family for his selflessness, warm smile and sense of humour. No service at this time by request.

WOODS, Ronald Frederick, born September 18, 1935 in Hamilton, Ontario. Passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 68. Cremated and his ashes were interred at Boal chapel in North Vancouver shortly after his death on November 8, 2003. There will a farewell get together at the Royal Canadian Legion at 15th and Lonsdale in North Vancouver on March 18th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. All of his friends and co-workers are welcome to attend.

STRACHAN, (nee Barrett) Ellen Elizabeth, "Ellie" passed away peacefully on March 29, 2004 in Herts, England. Predeceased by her husband Jack December 7, 1987. She showed her strength and courage by getting on with her life and had many good years in spite of losing her life's partner. She was lovingly cared for by daughter Sandra (John and family) whose home she shared for the last 8 years. She was always "elegant Ellie". Her annual visits to her second home in Canada will be sadly missed. Even at 88 years old she traveled alone to Vancouver last summer, enjoying many social activities, and Mayne Island, where she had been going for many years with her family - daughter Maureen (Jack) Pearl; granddaughter Phillipa Dermott (Brad); grandson Barrie Smith; great-grandchildren, Justin, Brandi and Shane. Today, April 30th would have been Ellie's 89th birthday. She was very much loved and blessed and knew it. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.

TRAVIS, Milia Victoria (Lia) passed away peacefully on Monday, April 26, 2004 at Burnaby Hospital. Predeceased by her loving husband James Alfred "Alf'. She is survived by her brother Russel (Ollie) Kotyk of Edmonton, Alberta and many caring relatives and friends. A special thank you to Jeanne Norlin who was always there for Lia.
