Charlotte Belle Ferree
Born June 29, 1937 in Bedford, Pennsylvania, died after a long illness on October 9, 2002 in Winnipeg. She was the proud mother of Andra Johanna Naslund of Winnipeg, and the loving sister of Louisa Ferree of Northampton, Massachusetts. A Memorial Service for Charlotte will be held at St. Margaret's Church, Ethelbert and Westminister in Winnipeg, on Friday October18, 2002 at 2 p.m. All friends friends and family are welcome.

Angele Maria Barbara Van Cauwenberghe (Van De Kerckhove)
Peacefully, at the Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg, Angele passed away suddenly on October 2, 2002 at the age of 85.
Left to mourn her passing are her sons Raymond (Ria) and Donald (Jill) of Winnipeg and daughter-in-law Irene of Toronto; two grandchildren, Christine (Chris Manilla) of Winnipeg and Sonia (Kyle Mizak) of Calgary; sisters-in-law Lea Van De Kerckhove of St. Rose Du Lac, Mary Van De Kerckhove of Treherne, Margaret Van Cauwenberghe of Somerset and brother-in-law Maurice Van Cauwenberghe of Pilot Mound.
Angele was predeceased by her parents Theophile and Sidonie Van De Kerckhove; her husband Arcel, son Roger, grandson David; brothers Armand, Maurice and Rene and sisters Irene Van Den Dorpe and Anna Van Den Bussche.
Mom was born on November 28, 1916 in St. Alphonse Manitoba. She began school at the age of three after attending a school party with her brothers and sisters. Having completed grade eight by the age of eleven she was forced to end her schooling because it meant that she would have to travel to Somerset to attend high school. Since that was not feasible she was forced to end a phase of life that she genuinely enjoyed. This left a lasting impression on her life that was the influence to instill the value of education on her three sons. An influence that was to our benefit and for which we are forever thankful.
Mom married Arcel Van Cauwenberghe on Oct. 30, 1941 in Somerset, Manitoba. They farmed on the original Van Cauwenberghe homestead in Swan Lake until 1971. They moved to Winnipeg on Kylemore Avenue in 1968 in semi-retirement. The Belgian Club became a major social center where they were able to play bien (Belgium card game) and Belgium bowling with their Flemish friends. Mom moved to the Delta Manor in 1990 where she continued a close relationship with Flemish friends. She moved to the Rosewood Village in September of 2001 to access the supportive living service provided by that fine institution.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Swan Lake with celebrant Father Firmin Michiels. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
We give special thanks to the staff and residents of Juniper House at the Rosewood Village who strived to add quality to Mom's last year of life. Thanks to Dr. J.R. Hayward who looked after mom with genuine care and concern for the last 10 years.

Asther Matthys
ASTHER GUSTAAF MATTHYS - Peacefully on October 1, 2002 at Lorne Memorial Hospital, Swan Lake, Dad was called home at the age of 78 years old.
Dad will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 48 years, Marie-Louise; daughter Marlene (Dennis); son Ron (Marianne) and his four grandchildren, Louise, Paul, Adell and Heidi, who he was very proud of. He is also survived by sister-in-law Angele, six nieces and nephews in Canada and numerous family in Belgium and The Netherlands.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, Emilie and Jules and his three brothers, Arsene, Wilfred and Arnold and sister-in-law Clara.
Dad was born in St. Jan in Eremo on August 18, 1924 to Emilie and Jules Matthys. He was the youngest of four children. In 1958, after all of his brothers had immigrated to Canada, Asther and Marie-Louise and children immigrated and settled in the Silver Springs district at La Riviere, where he farmed until 1985. After retirement from the farm Mom and Dad spent 17 wonderful years on an acreage outside o Pilot Mound where Dad enjoyed looking after his yard. Mom and Dad became snowbirds and spent many enjoyable winters in Texas and Arizona making many new lasting friendships. We will remember Dad for his deep love of the land, his passion for farming and his great love for all animals and nature. His bird feeders and baths were never left empty for he so loved his feathered friends.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 5 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church with celebrant Father Firman Michiels. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lorne Memorial Hospital, Swan Lake, MB.

Alfred Fleury
Peacefully at the Heritage Lodge in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Saturday September 28, 2002, Mr. Alfred Fleury of St. Francois Xavier, Manitoba passed away at the age of 85 years.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife Estelle (nee Desjardins), 4 children: Raymond (Alice) Fleury of Winnipeg, Edouard (Céline) Fleury of St. Francois Xavier, Marguerite (John) Peters of St. Francois Xavier, and Bernice (Léo) Demers of Haywood. Also 15 grandchildren: Cindy and Paul; Lorraine, Philip, René, Denis and Joceline; Beverly; Lionel, Bridgette, Carmelle, Marcella, Christopher, Nicolus and François; and 8 great grandchildren: Patrick, Janelle, Célèste; Kirsten, Liam; Mitchell, Braden; and Louis. He also leaves to mourn 7 sisters: Therese Feal, Elizabeth (Betty) Medinski, Jeanne Kiazyk, Gertrude (Gertie) Barc, Agnes Tuliao, Irene Bouchard, Ida Lachance and one brother George Fleury. He was predeceased by three brothers: Alexandre, Charles and René.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the St. Eustache Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday October 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. preceded by Recitation of the Rosary at 10:30, with Msgr Henri Perron and Father Roland Tessier officiating. Cremation to follow with interment in the Parish Cemetery.

David Rea
1909 - 2002
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Dave on September 26th, 2002 at his residence, the Lions Prairie Manor in Portage La Prairie.
David was born on March 25, 1909 in Portadown, North Ireland. He immigrated to Canada in 1927 in search of a better life. He found in the Treherne region where he operated his own business for many years before retiring in Rathwell and finally Portage. His love for antiques, gardening and tree planting kept him busy in his retirement years. His interest in his family kept him young.
David was predeceased by his parents, James and Susan Rea, his brothers Jim (Hazel), Johnny, Willie (Joyce) and his sister Maggie.
He is survived by his wife Reine La France, daughter Susan, son David (Judy) and his grandchildren, Jamie, Devin, Ryan and Megan.
At Dave's request a private service will be held at the Woodlands cemetery.
What does he plant who plants a tree?

Florida Grenier (née Moreau)
Tenant la main de Victor, son époux bien-aimé, Florida (mémère Deda) Grenier est décédée mercredi le 18 septembre 2002 à l'Hôpital Saint-Boniface à l'âge de 76 ans.
Elle laisse à sa douce mémoire, son époux Victor, ses enfants Robert (Irma), Viola (Denis), Clémence (Paul), Hubert (Monique), Thérèse (Adrien) et Fernand (Agnès). Aussi 20 petits-enfants, 6 arrière-petits-enfants, une soeur, un beau-frère, et de nombreux belle-soeurs, neveux, nièces, et amis.
Impossible d'oublier sa passion si enthousiaste de la cuisine, surtout le cadeau qu'elle nous a légué de sa recette de soupe.
Les funérailles seront célébrées en l'église catholique de Saint-Léon le samedi 21 septembre à 14 h, et précédé par les prières à 13h 30, suivies de l'inhumation au cimetière paroissiale.
Les arrangements ont été confiés au Salon mortuaire Adam de Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes.
Florida Grenier (nee Moreau)
With her loving husband Victor by her side, Florida (mémère Deda) Grenier passed away on September 18, 2002 at the St. Boniface Hospital. She was 76 years of age.
She leaves to mourn her loving husband Victor Grenier, children Robert (Irma), Viola (Denis), Clémence (Paul), Hubert (Monique), Thérèse (Adrien) and Fernand (Agnès). She also leaves to mourn 20 grand-children, 6 great grand-children, one sister, one brother-in-law and several sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Impossible to forget her culinary enthusiasm as she leaves us with her recipe for her famous soup.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the St. Leon Roman Catholic Church on Saturday September 21, 2002 at 2 p.m. preceded by Recitation of the Rosary at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.

Leo Painchaud
Peacefully at the St. Claude Hospital on Wednesday September 11, 2002, Mr. Leo Painchaud of Fannystelle, Manitoba passed away at the age of 57 years.
Leo leaves to mourn his passing his loving mother Cécile (née Cyrenne), three sisters: Fernande Lofto (Lenard), Noëlla Rose (Larry), and Diane Bernardin (Orval), one brother Marcel Painchaud and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father André in 1956 and by one nephew Roger in 1998.
Leo was born December 29, 1944 and livied his life in Fannystelle. Leo enjoyed his numerous holidays, especially his trip to California where he met and visited with Roy Rogers. He will be sadlly missed by family and friends.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Fannystelle Roman Catholic Church on Saturday September 14, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Armand LeGal officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery.

Peacefully at the Grace General Hospital on Saturday August 31, 2002, Mrs. Odette Touchette of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away at the age of 80 years.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her beloved husband Louis Touchette, one daughter Anita Touchette of Winnipeg, one son Richard and his wife Debbie of Milk River, Alta and their children Brittany and Chelsea. She also leaves to mourn one sister Dolores Horobetz of Winnipeg, and numerous in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father Clement Fouasse, her mother Elva (née Moreau), and by one brother André Fouasse.
