Peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 20, 2005, with his wife of 54 years by his side our father and friend was called to his Father to enter into his rest. God’s rod and staff comforted our dad as he walked through the valley of the shadow of death.
He was predeceased by his son James, March 1999.
Ken Will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sophia and children Ken, Charissa (Dennis), Guy, Terry, April (Dave), Lois (Shane), Shelda (Kevin). 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and extended family, also his best friends Doug McMillan and wife Michelle.
Memorial Service is to be held on Thursday March 24, at Glen Eden Funeral Home, at 2:00pm. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
Ken’s grandsons are the honourary pallbearers.

Bert Baliant

Peacefully on Monday, March 21st, surrounded by family, Bert Baliant passed away.
Bert was born and raised in Meleb, Manitoba. He proudly served in World War II. Later he married and raised his family in Winnipeg while maintaining a cattle operation and working on the railroad. He spent his later years residing in Gimli, often visiting his family in Winnipeg and Denver.
Bert was predeceased by his wife Elsie, his brothers Albin and John, his sister Mary, and his nephew John. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Ramona (Gallos) and Laura (Heggem), his son Frank, and his sons-in-law Ed and Dan. He will forever be cherished by his 5 grandchildren: Marcia (Stacey), Jessica (Russell), Adam (Meaghan), Erik and Natalie. Also left to remember Bert are his sisters Ann and Jean, brothers-in-law Ed and John and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 24th at 10:00 AM at the Glen Eden Funeral Home; 4477 Main Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bert’s favorite charity, The Salvation Army, 55 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB.R3C 1L8.

Grace Norma Greschner (née Bolton)

Peacefully on Saturday, March 12, Norma passed away at Concordia Place Centre with her husband, Andrew, at her side.
Norma was born in Windsor, Ontario, youngest child of Fredrick and Constance Bolton. As a child Norma resided in England in pre, and during post World War 2. Norma returned to Canada in 1947.
Norma was employed at Scott Bathgate and enlisted in the Reserve Army, there she met the love of her life Andrew and they married in November 1954. Together they built their life and their family. Norma “retired” after the birth of her daughter Joanne.
In the early 70’s Norma returned to the work force, she volunteered at Salisbury School and then gained full time employment as a school secretary at Morse Place Junior High School. Norma then decided to take her “real” retirement in 1987.
Norma and Andy enjoyed traveling and socializing with family and friends all through their lives together.
Norma is predeceased by her parents, brother Peter and sister Patricia. She is survived by her husband Andrew, daughter Joanne and Guy McMahon and step-grandson Derek, brothers-in-law, William Beckett and Robert Greschner and sisters-in-law, Margaret Lenard, Betty Jeffrey, and Joan Pilkington.
Norma’s family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of the 3rd floor at Concordia Place Care Centre for their care and support.
Memorial Services for Norma will be on Friday, March 18 at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Glen Eden Funeral Home with reception to follow.

Alvina "Winnie" Knecht

It is with much sadness that we have to announce the passing of Alvina Knecht on February 13, 2005,
In early years the family resided on Alexander Avenue and then moved to Gallagher Street, where Winnie grew up with her two brothers Ted and Ernie, who have since predeceased her as well as her parents Peter and Elizabeth (Koch) Knecht.
As a self taught and determined lady, Winnie worked as a domestic, as a laundress and then worked at Investors Syndicate where she remained until her retirement. She loved traveling but enjoyed being home with her pet dogs. Winnie was exceptional when it came to crochet. He unique designs and many works of crocheting were of her own imagination and made with little effort. It landed her first place at the exhibition. All of us have something to treasure and remember her by and shall keep and use them always. When Winnie's health failed, she resided at the Golden Door on Pembina Highway. She was the only lady who controlled the hallways with her electric wheelchair. Her chair peeled rubber as good as a Mustang. Never used a horn - just hollered BEEP and everyone moved. She didn't believe in speed limits. When not riding around, she was consumed with her crocheting. Winnie was one of a kind.
Thank you Golden Door staff for all the kindness, care, patience and understanding throughout Winnie's stay.
Winnie is going to be very much missed by her best friends; Marilyn Brown (Les) (Marnie), her life long childhood friend Mary Neilson, Debbie Urbanski (Chris), the Gallagher girls and her pet dog Holly.
Winnie is survived by her sister-in-law Kae Knecht; nieces Bonnie and Barb; nephews Brian and Jim.
At Winnie's request, no funeral service will be held. Cremation has taken place. Interment will take place on Friday, February 18, at 1:30 p.m., at Brookside Cemetery next to her mother. Luncheon will be served at Golden Door, 1679 Pembina Highway prior to interment at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Winnie's memory to Darcy's Arc Animal Shelter on Portage Avenue, or to a charity of one's choice.

Abelardo Punzalan Burgos
July 30, 1940 - February 10, 2005

Peacefully on February 10, 2005 Abel passed away at Riverview Health Centre.
At the age of 64 Abel is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Cora, daughter Bernadette (Carey) with daughter Kiana; son, Dale (Elizabeth) with children, Rece, Gavin, Johnathan and William; and youngest son Eric. He is also survived by his mother Gertrudis, sisters; Charit (Willie), Lou (Jun), brothers; Edgar (Amy), Billy (May Ann), Bing (Gina) and their families. Father-in-law, Rafael de Jesus Sr., and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and their families. Abel was predeceased by his father Martin and mother-in-law Julita.
Abel and Cora were married on May 20, 1967 in the Philippines and came to Canada in 1974 with their daughter. Abel was very involved in his children's lives, driving them to volleyball games, martial arts lessons and didn't mind being their personal chauffeur. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, watching the Food Network and The Big Breakfast morning show as well as spending time with his grandchildren. Abel was a devout Catholic and was very involved in his prayer group. He was very dedicated to his family, he was patient and always made sure everyone was well fed...."did you eat already?" His favorite expression during gathering, "bless the food." Abel was employed at Empire Iron Works as a fitter welder for a span of 30 years.
Special thanks to the many friends who supported us during this difficult time.
The family would like to thank the staff on GB3 and H4 wards of Health Sciences Centre for their care during his seven-week stay. The family would also like to thank the staff of E3 at Riverview Health Centre for making his last days comfortable and peaceful. Special thanks to Dr. Dyck, April and staff of Kildonan Medical Centre.
Lamay will take place on Tuesday, February 15 and Wednesday, February 16 from 6 till midnight at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony's Parish on Thursday, February 17 at 10:00 a.m. with Msgr. Michael Moore officiating. Reception will take place immediately following the mass at the church hall. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery.
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend will be greatly missed.

ARTHUR ZIMMER, born September 11, 1933, peacefully passed into the arms of our Lord on January 29, 2005, at the St. Boniface Hospital.
Lovingly remembered by his wife Gwen; daughters, Carla and Diane (Lloyd); sister Elsie (Mario); nephews, James (Renanne) and Mario Jr.; sister-in-law Sandra; brothers-in-law, Brian and Larry; and numerous nephews and nieces in Edmonton.
Art came to Canada from Germany in 1956 and made his home in Winnipeg, where he met and married Gwen in 1962. Arthur was a devoted and hardworking family man. He worked as a machinist at Monarch Industries, until his retirement. Art and Gwen moved from their home in Rivercrest to Arnes, MB in 1997. Art always loved nature and his home in Arnes was his paradise.
He had a passion for life and enjoyed the company of his family and friends and his devoted dog Lucky.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support. Many thanks to the staff of 7 South, at St. Boniface Hospital and especially Dr. Zeph Wiesenthal, of Gimli.

Cornelius Pauls

With deepest sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Cornelius Pauls on Saturday, January 29th at the Kildonan Personal Care Home, with his beloved wife at his side.
He will be fondly remembered and loved forever by his wife of 56 years, Angela, his children George (Phyllis), Bonnie (Andy), Brenda and Rick (Heather). His grandchildren David (Cora), Matthew, Michelle (Jorge), Scott, Ryan, Larissa and Tyler and great-grandson, Richard. Also left to mourn are his brothers Albert (Mary), Dan (Clara), George (Martha), sister Anna, sisters-in-law Verna and Nancy. He was predeceased by his parents Heinrich and Anna Pauls, brothers Jack, Hank (Emma), Levi, Frank, Peter, sister Eva and brother in law John Pries.
Born July 17, 1918 in Montana he was the eighth child born in a family of twelve children. When he was 3 years old, the family moved to Winkler. At the age of 14 he began working various jobs in Winkler, Roland and Morden to help support his family. In January of 1943 he enlisted as a non-combatant in the Royal Canadian Medical Corps and by Christmas of that year he was enroute to Europe. When the war ended, he was stationed in Cloppenburg, Germany where he met Angela. He was honorably discharged as a full sergeant in June 1946 and returned home. He immediately began working on Angela's immigration to Canada. They settled in Winnipeg where he eventually became employed with the Winnipeg School Board as a Custodian. He was very proud to obtain his papers as a Power Engineer and remained employed with the School Division for over 30 years until his retirement in 1983. When the children were young Dad was very involved in the Boy Scouts of Canada and served as District President for the Greater Winnipeg area. He was also an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion No.9 where he served in several executive offices.
A memorial service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, on Wednesday, February 2nd at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow

William Malynyk
March 09, 1917 - January 27, 2005

On the evening of Thursday, January 27, 2005, William (Bill) Malynyk, aged 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 1988; brother Nick. Bill leaves behind his son Lyle (Pat); his daughter Brenda; and his precious granddaughter Jessica; brother Harry and sister-in-law Judy, with whom he shared a close relationship. He is also survived by Dick and Bernice Sheppard, his former neighbours whom he considered his greatest friends. He is also survived by his sisters, Lena, Mary and Rose and their families.
Bill met Elizabeth while working for her father in Woodridge, and marriage soon followed. He served overseas as a Gunner in the Army and upon his return they built a house and raised a family in East Kildonan, which was home until a few short years ago. His entire working career was spent as an appliance repairman with Eatons. Many conversations were held around the kitchen table about the good old days. Many of his customers shared a special friendship with Bill after his retirement and he cherished those visits and telephone calls. Even after retirement, you could always find Bill in the garage, tinkering and repairing something; turning nothing into something - that was his specialty. Some of his inventions were pretty creative, and we shared many good laughs over them.
There was no greater enjoyment to Bill than to spend a day fishing with his wife and family. He was quite the swimmer in his younger years and could out swim his son any day! He was also a great bowler, and for many years bowled on leagues at Billy Mosienko Lanes. His basement was lined with dozens of trophies. Another love of his was ceramics. Bill's entire house was filled with ceramics he made over the years. Bill spent the last number of years residing at Kildonan Personal Care Home due to Alzheimer's Disease.
The family would like to thank staff for their kindness and compassion over the years. The family would also like to thank Dick and Bernice Sheppard for all their love and support over the years.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens on Saturday, February 5 at 1:00 p.m.
